No...
Alpha Protocol was a great game, it was just a an RPG, and not a shooter.

Seems like you can fire weapons while running in this one. First red alert.
Why is that a red alert? In Deus Ex you could fire weapons while running at ridiculous cheetah speed and jumping across the room, they just wouldn't be very accurate.

I'm just pleased they didn't show any just sitting behind chest high walls taking pot shots at other people behind chest high walls. Doesn't mean it won't be in there, but that's a good sign.
You could fire weapons, yes.
But would you hit anything? No.

Having the combat rely completely on player ability means that this will certainly be an action game (Not necessarily shooter) first, RPG second. I think we'll be lucky if we even get a game worthy of the overused "Action-RPG" term.

Many will be pleased. I will not be one of them.
Pessimist? Maybe a little. I just don't have high hopes for Square Enix.

I can't help but think "Why is he fighting Daft Punk?" every time I see a trailer for this

Hmm. While it's impressive (even amazing) it still doesn't chanmge my initial thoughts about the project- that it looks like it'll be an amazing movie.

Sadly, there is absolutely NO in-game footage in this trailer. While the original Deus Ex (and even the much-maligned Invisible War) had fantastic stories, what made them great games (yes, IW was a great game, just not the sheer unlimited genius of the original) was the GAMEPLAY. I want to see some kind of confirmation that this game will be more than just a string of linear infiltration/blasting missions strung together with cutscenes. No matter how good the story is, no matter how much eye candy is on offer, no matter how thrilling the action, if the overall gameplay doesn't measure up to its predecessors this could be the biggest disappointment since Daikatana. I'm staying hopeful, but as I said, this trailer doesn't really give me any reasons to remain optimistic...

i love what i see so far, and will almost definitely get it but its just that neither eidos nor square enix are really names that i easily associate with "good games:

plus the whole deal of the two pre order bonusses next to the augmented adition isn't very helpful

This trailer has some amazing style. I just want no know why everything in the future is brown. It looks the entire game takes place at dusk.

Excuse me I think I need to change my pants now. But seriously, the only reason I could see myself not getting the game is if my PC can't run it.

The gameplay videos actually remind me of sort of a modern Perfect Dark. Futuristic shooter with lots of gadgets. And now RPG elements. Hm. Might be exactly what I've been looking for for the past... 10 years? Wow. It's been a while.

It looks pretty cool so far. I didn't play the first. The clichéd characters right at the end of the trailer worry me a bit, though. That woman with the Mohawk mowing down civilians, and the big buff guy. Oh, and the news anchor lady looked ridiculous. But otherwise, the game looks slick.

Errr... so, there are policemen who fight off bare handed everyday guys, who are protesting about the implants. Why? The policemen fight them off. With submachine guns. Why? There is a girl that has the implants. She shoots unarmed people that are running away. And she cloaks during that. Why? And for god's sake, why the guy who has implants is helping the people who are protesting against them?

This trailer is one big nonsense.

Someone did an analysis of the various trailers that have been released so far. For however good it is (the analysis, not the trailer), he's far too positive. I mean, he basically outlines every single aspect present within the trailers and came out hopeful in the end despite abject, in your face demonstration being published by... Squenix, the kings of show, never tell.

Anyone remember how FFXIII' director responded to criticism against his precious little creation?
?We think many reviewers are looking at Final Fantasy XIII from a western point of view. When you look at most Western RPGs, they just dump you in a big open world, and let you do whatever you like? [It] becomes very difficult to tell a compelling story when you?re given that much freedom.?

Mass Effect says hi.

I'm primarily ranting about Squenix, but it's worth saying because they have a large say in what goes into this. Likewise, trying to say none of their design philosophy is present is... not smart. Basically, if Eidos is trying to keep some kind of subtext or pretense in the same vein as DX1 or even 2, they're doing a piss poor job of it. Basically, they're dry humping the old material in some cheap attempt to get the old fans interested. Yes, the Icarus imagery caught my attention. Is there anything substantive to it? No? Well then stop patronizing me.

The overarching mistake is that they're trying to force intellectual depth into a (probably) hollow, cliche story. One of the strengths of the original was that it had an interesting enough plot on its own and the philosophy, conspiracies and humor were icing on the cake. They were subtly woven into the narrative and you had to go looking for the depth.

Plus JC didn't look like he was some cookie cutter, anime Byronic hero.

Cool cinematic, but is it just me or does this look a little less like Deus-ex and more like cyber prototype or another action slaughter game?

Nice symbolism in it but it really does feel like Square Enix's style (spider robots, hole in the ocean, people with really weird hair etc)

Just hoping the cinematic is only covering the really dramatic stuff as I liked to be more covert in the last games.
Still awesome in its hacky thrusty, explosion filled way, can't wait to see some real gameplay.
Yeah, it actually lost a lot of interests when I learned S-E was involved...

Is it me or the technology seems to have downgraded from previous Deus Ex? Makes me believe this is a prequel maybe? I know he says it's in 2027, but it's been so long since I played DE and DE2 that I don't remember which year it took place in...

Metal arms and rotating hands look cool and all, but the agents in DE 1 & 2 could do all that stuff while still looking like normal people... in fact, it was one of the big plot point for some npcs in DE 1 - the older models of agents looked like human with metal sticking out of them, while the newer shinier models could fit right in a crowd.

First I heard of the game it was going to be a prequel, I think that's still the general idea. But looking at it I see so much which looks less like speculative science (you know stuff which you could speculate is possible) and more stuff that looks like final fantasy logic.

Found a brief section of game-play in another video, the 1 minute total they showed seemed pretty close to older games save you have assassins creed style take downs, your arm lets you punch through certain parts of wall etc.

This is just my speculation but watching this I think that the following elements are involved:

The protagonist was involved in a sabotaged project called Icarus (probably to do with flying or space ships).
Agency which gives him upgrades gets him to go fight a 'terrorist' group which later turns out to be a 'resistance movement' against some big evil, oh and also try to back stab him repeatedly.
Protagonist finds his old bosses were the really evil and were using cyborgs to make trouble.
Learns that another secret project is going on which is meant to do something really good even though everyone keeps on warning the bad guys that its actually going to destroy the earth.
Protagonist goes to stop evil project but closed minded scientist/boss activates dooms day machine anyway because that's what bad guys do.

I know that sounds like a lot of games but that's really all I'm expecting out of this from the trailers I've seen.

Looks cool and all but it's still game that rides with exoskeleton / powerarmor / biosuit which we've seen before. Now, why am I acting smug because this game just went into my to-get list of games...

Cool, but I'd really love to see the gameplay. Only then will I pass judgement on whether or not I'll get it, though I am very much interested.
I saw some the other day, the gameplay is GOD, especially considering what I saw was still Pre-Alpha.

I really like this trailer because it shows a fair bit, but doesn't elaborate on it too much or give too much away.
You see all these interesting things in the trailer which are very briefly shown, normally when a dev has a good idea, they beat their idea to death as much as possible, showing it off as much as they can. All the things shown here are just footnotes which make up awesomesauce.

Well, like I said I'll wait and see. I haven't played a Deus Ex game so I really don't know what to expect.
