I HATED this idea when I first saw it the other day, but I sat back and thought about it. OK OK as a prequel this would be a horrific abomination. BUT I don't think this was planned as such, if it was a parody of the system (detention instead of Arkham so the villains always come back, Gordon as princible etc.) it could actually be quite interesting as a parody. I personally love the idea of a punk Emo Joker, so long as he never grows up to BECOME the mainstream joker. Just taking a group of characters and putting them in a completely new, yet still vaguely similar, wouldn't rub with most fans, but I would state it had huge potential
Pretty much this. The only problem is that instead of aiming it towards the kid/teen demographic, they probably would have tried to please all the fanboys. Batman Beyond (which is a lot better then it has any right to be) and X-men Evolution showed that a teen hero in High School plot didnt have to be bad adn as long as they kept things entertaining I would have watched it.

I have serious doubts about how the concept of 'Batman in high school' would've worked out, but I do like the character designs. Each character fulfills a typical high school archetype (Ivy = cheerleader, Croc = jock bully, Riddler = nerd), while still remaining recognizable to fans. The designs aren't terribly original, but I feel they don't need to be. Some things are clichés because they work.

The frig? Or rather, Holy teenification, Batman!
I can't say whether or not it would be bad, but it's unorthodox to say the least. Especially seeing as Batman is "serious business" and Oscar-worthy movie franchise. And DARK!

Reimagining Batman universe in a high school setting?

I like it. I'd totally watch it. I'd probably like it too.

I'm sure the purist will/have already *****'d about it being totally alienating from the source material. Turning the Joker from a muderous pyschopath to gothy-douchebag. Who cares? I think it would be funny.

I'd watch it simply because of the whimsical change it would probably bring about. I'm sick of the dark, gritty BS that's creeping it's way into nigh on everything it seems. Sure the fanboys will probably complain but who honestly cares about fanboys?

This could potentially have been an amazing storyline for a short while if it was done correcly (by an adult comic group like darkhorse or as a graphic novel) but it's good that this particular project was killed because it would have been shit for lack of balls.

I think that showing the Joker going from icy-hot in Croc's jock to kidnapping torture and murder in his highschool years could have been done well and been a fascinating character study - and the others too, since highschool is a very transformative period. Bruce Wayne himself could have seen wonderful development and growth (perhaps from a traumatized and lonely rich-kid to recognizing what is going on around him and the need to do something about it). For an example of what it might have been like, see Wolverine: Origin.

But the story couldn't have been told right and couldn't have challenged its characters or its audience enough as an afternoon cartoon series for kids, so it's best that it never happened.

There've been worse saturday morning kids tv abominations.
Looks better then half the stuff they are showing now, in any case.

looks cool, and Harley in a cheerleader uniform. Mmmmm....
First things first, get Linkara on the phone and inform him that Harley Quinn is in a cheerleader uniform, he will thank us.

Moving on, I would watch the SHIT out of this. Played as a Brave and the Bold style affectionate piss-take that skewers not only the Batman characters but also teen dramedy cliches and tropes and frankly, we'd be onto a winner.

I love some grimdark, but I've gotten so sick of it lately that I would welcome a more whimsical take on my favourite superheroes.
Your Avatar is fucking awesome. Love Gordon.

And I agree with your post as well.

I think its best that this remained simply concept art.

From that standpoint alone, it's great, colorful and imaginative, but I wouldn't want to see a show about it, very good art, but best to simply leave it at that before the horrible high school plot lines, not to mention how each character would feel way out of form- would fall on its face pretty hard.

Great art! That doesn't mean it wasn't a terrible, terrible idea, but at least we get to see where the idea would have gone.

Now let's never mention it again.

The DC comic book plots are flimsy enough as is. Trying to do a high school version is a recipe for disaster if i've ever heard one.

Is it weird that I find this interesting... then again I was one of the very few people who like the Teen Titans show (although they weren't in a high school) but this could have had potential as a comedy, because this is obviously a comedy, LOOK AT THE ART STYLE OF COURSE IT'S A COMEDY and it could have worked. *looks at picture 6* ok with some dark points but still, also I'd like to mention that WOW IT LOOKS STUNNING! Jesus I zoomed in as far as I could and there wasn't a pixel in sight... no I wasn't zooming in on the cheerleading pict- oh fuck there's no point in pretending.

Strangely enough i would watch a show like Gotham High, it would've been a great spin on the batman series.
Granted a lot of the true personalities of the characters would need to be dulled a bit, so i guess that might have ruined the characters for a lot of fans.

Though it can't help but remind me of X-men Revolution which was a similar concept but with the marvel's x-men series as high schoolers. XMR worked as a brilliant series that a lot of die-hard fans even enjoyed, if not as a canon piece but as an amusing spin off.

Don't dismiss that idea too quickly (and don't say "But it doesn't fit in cannon") I would have loved to have seen that, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann did something similar and disregarded all established cannon and put everyone in high school, and you know what? It was awesome.

I could totally see it working in Batman too bad we may never get to see anyone take the chance.
