I'm sorry but the word in bold kinda points why they acted in this way. Their history for one is taught badly. I believe I read somewhere that their history says they won WW2 all by their lonesome. Plus I'm sure some of them would continulously deny that they ever dropped any nukes on Japan. And I can't really see how some people can be so... I don't know what word I can use to describe this... insulting? cruel? heartless? all of the above? to Japan at this moment in time. Especially since they were at peace and alot of the stuff they get is from Japan.Jonabob87 said:Apparently there is a fair amount of Americans claiming that the Tsunami currently ravaging Japan can be seen as payback for an attack in WW2.

Edit: My quoting may be off..
I'm pretty sure they talk about the bombings in school, it might be something the don't go into that well. It's probably more ignorance the person's part the schools.Nile McMorrow said:I'm sorry but the word in bold kinda points why they acted in this way. Their history for one is taught badly. Believe it or not, I heard this yesterday in a teacher's lounge at the middle school (grades 6-8) that I was observing at. One of the teachers was talking to a group at lunch-break and mentioned that one of her 11 year old students said (paraphrased by her): Japan did this to themselves, obviously - to get sympathy because the sympathy they got from bombing themselves had dried up. I relayed this to a friend later in the day and his cavalier response - "Someone's parents are working hard " pretty much latched the box my faith in humanity has been sealed away in.Nile McMorrow said:I'm sorry but the word in bold kinda points why they acted in this way. Utter assholes.
Small note on that: I've observed that, since we typically spend up to the entire first half of any US history class's year on the Revolutionary War, founding of America, yadda yadda EVERY SINGLE YEAR without exception... schools usually give WWII 3 weeks; one for D-day, one for the Holocaust, and one for VE and VJ days - giving the dropping of atomic bombs in Japan one sitting of approximately 50 minutes. At least that's been the experience of my academic career - and World History does not even make it past the Industrial Revolution if it focuses on Europe - and if it focuses on "Non Western" countries it rarely even gets that far. It's a sad state of affairs.Slaanax said:I'm pretty sure they talk about the bombings in school, it might be something the don't go into that well.
