Through all this thread, I see not one mention of capybaras. Therefore, <url=http://animalssittingoncapybaras.tumblr.com>everyone is tumblering wrongly.

I don't really know much about Tumblr besides that (and Trolling Chris Brown), but I haven't felt the need to venture beyond.

Think Twitter crossed with 4/8chan.

The people are equally horrible, but there anonymity is limited and even the most batshit person thinks they're the paragon of virtue and will do anything to get attention (reblogs).

It has only one redeeming feature:
POOOOORN GLORIOUS POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORN.

This is also an acceptable use of Tumblr. And I don't have to use private browsing for it either.

I think most complainers never actually tried to use it themselves for anything besides finding things to complain about. I look at a friend's Tumblr pretty often. She manages to avoid anything annoying. I don't imagine it's very hard and that she's just amazingly skilled at it.

Nope, you're wrong there.

I was a tumblr user until I "triggered" someone by saying he's NOT a retard.

So that's that.

Your join date is in 2011 so I know you were here for 'wretched hive of scum and villainy' and all the rest, the Escapist had a massive, and I mean massive, hate-on for 4chan for years.

Tumblr, like any social platform, forum, or content sharing site, has an appealing surface level of endless streams of content available at minimum effor. The only real difference between tumblr and others, besides the interface, is that tumblr lets its bad side, its rashy, argumentative, holier than thou side show way sooner because of the viral nature of how posts travel on it, and the fact that comments aren't sorted in any sort of sane way, you just get the ones that are on the particular strain of the post you got.

And don't even get me started on the Anons. They are second to worst.

In a nutshell, I had a tumblr for years, enjoyed it for most of it, and then deleted it because I was getting too addicted. If you only ever follow content blogs that don't post opinions, you'll probably never see the bad side. When you start following people, and lots of them, you'll basically start to see the spread of every wave of outrage that tumblr goes through.

What is that supposed to prove wrong? Are you some collective of beings making up 51% of people complaining about it?

And so what anyways? Oh no someone said triggered and you fled tumblr? I don't think that qualifies as hard to avoid

Nah, that just means some people complain about tumblr after being on there.
Obviously you can avoid stuff. If you avoid Tags. But then you also find nothing. Well, apart from animals on top on other animals, and that's cool.

Actually, they should only allow animal (and landscape) pictures on tumblr.

Must I really explain the inclusion of the word 'most' to you in my first post?

Somehow I doubt all tags instantly mean you see annoying shit. And the obvious thing to do when encountering a single moron is to block them.

I'd point out that you basically said "Most people complaining must not actually use it, because my one friend that does doesn't see any bad stuff".

So if one instance of anecdotal evidence is sufficient to posit that a majority of the people complaining about tumblr aren't actually using it, then one instance of anecdotal evidence from someone that did is sufficient to counter that claim.

Edit: Whoops, hit submit early on accident.

On topic, Tumblr is perfectly fine to be linked to a specific post/account, and it's fine to occasionally peruse through. Any deeper utilization than that seems to be destined to running into some truely awful stuff.

I'd coined tumblr the nega-chan. The chans are sites that are absolutely atrocious on the surface, but if you bother to look into it, you find lots of interesting, well thought out conversations, amazingly talented people making art, games, music and whatever else.

Tumblr, meanwhile, looks to be a place with lots of interesting, well thought out conversations, amazingly talented people making art, games, music and whatever else, but then you start digging more and find out that tumblr is just as atrocious as the chans are, it's just in a inverted order of discovery.

I don't mind either, so it works for me, but I'm not at all surprised that lots of people find themselves fleeing from tumblr after a fair bit of exposure to it.

Sorry do you mind pointing out this one instance rule? I didn't cite 'one instance'. It was not some demonstration.

Try again, this time pay more attention.

"Try again"

"This time pay more attention"

You know, if you actually have no interest in doing anything other than being snarky and condescending to people, you could also not reply.

As for the other part, you said "I look at my friend's tumblr and they avoid stupid stuff just fine". That is your anecdote. It immediately followed talking about how "Most people that complain about tumblr must not use it".

So you stated that most people complaining haven't used it, and then provided an anecdote about how the experience must not be that bad due to your friend's tumblr.

You may not have intended it to be interpreted that way, but that's how you wrote it.

I'm talking more about the here and now, where insulting 4chan isn't quite as widespread and I've seen a few people stand up against it.

Best part about Tumblr is looking at all of those funny pictures and cute doggies, only to be randomly faced to face with dick. That was the best part of Music History 125D.

I think tumblr is fine but then I mostly use it to follow artists since a lot of them use it for their WIPs, Scraps or web comic stuff.

I tried to stay normal on tumblr but half of my follows ended up as porn so it's either that or "kill white people" and "rape culture".

Pretty much this, I personally like tumblr and if you just follow the people you like, you will find it to be a pretty good website

The best way to do tumblr is to never post to tumblr, just follow the blogs you like and chillax while talking about stuff in more civilized places, which is almost everywhere but 4chan.
