You do know you can choose who to follow on Tumblr, right? Just follow things and people you like, and fine people who post stuff you like and follow them, too.
And when you see someone post something you think is stupid, unfollow them
This. 100% this. I've been on tumblr for years and I almost never see any of the extreme social justicing that people claim is on there. Why? Because I watch blogs about lizards, dogs, mineral formations, and comedy. So when I see people wailing about how terrible it is I just kinda shrug and think "If you say so pal." I see more BS and ass holes on Facebook on any given day than I had ever seen on tumblr. For some reason Facebook gets a pass though because... reasons? But, again, I don't watch tumblr blogs that post that crap nor do I go looking through the site for crap to reinforce a preconceived notion that everything and everyone there is terrible.

People like to take the most bat shit crazy and ignorant posts there and highlight them as representative of everyone on the site. All while trying to claim their own social media venue has no such bat shit crazy ignorance. Then, when you show them said bat shit ignorance, they reply that you're just cherry picking to make them all look bad. When you press the issue that that is exactly what that person is doing to Tumblr they are forced to come up with thin simpering excuses as to why their cherry picking is justified and right and yours is obviously a ploy demonize their social media venue. Which is exactly what they were doing and you can argue in circles with them all day and night like this and get absolutely no where.

Here in lies the danger of deciding to broadly hate a wide group of people. Be it because of gender, nationality, religion, skin color, or.... social media preference dear god. There will always be ass holes in that group to reinforce your preconceived notion making anyone who doesn't hate them look like idiots to you. While you look like an idiot to everyone who doesn't hate them.

Can't sterotype 4chan but sterotyping tumblr is a-ok.
Your join date is in 2011 so I know you were here for 'wretched hive of scum and villainy' and all the rest, the Escapist had a massive, and I mean massive, hate-on for 4chan for years.
I'm talking more about the here and now, where insulting 4chan isn't quite as widespread and I've seen a few people stand up against it.
That's likely because 4chan is nothing like the beast it once was. Especially after gamergate happened, there was a massive influx of Reddit and tumblr users that changed the entire atmosphere of the site. Not to mention the hugely increased amount of moderation across all boards and Christopher Poole trying (and failing) to sell the site to Gawker. A large portion of the older users migrated to other chans leaving 4chan to really just be another Reddit without upvoting.

What is that supposed to prove wrong? Are you some collective of beings making up 51% of people complaining about it?

And so what anyways? Oh no someone said triggered and you fled tumblr? I don't think that qualifies as hard to avoid
If I may?

You said, "I think most complainers never actually tried to use it themselves for anything besides finding things to complain about. I look at a friend's Tumblr pretty often. She manages to avoid anything annoying. I don't imagine it's very hard and that she's just amazingly skilled at it."

That's the very definition of anecdotal evidence.

So, I'm a bit confused as to why you're willing to get on the silence's case over his anecdotal evidence, when your assertion is based on the same sort of evidence.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just accept that your and his experiences with Tumblr are drastically different?

Tumblr is trash.

It's trash piled onto trash piled onto even more trash, with a sprinkling of radical social justice and divisionary assholes. And I use it because I'm trash.

You can't Tumblr "right", really. You make snarky comebacks to anon hate and try not to annoy too many people and you'll make... progress? Or you could just delete your account - the easiest way out.

Well, I learned something from this thread: There's porn on Tumblr! :D

I've just ignored it up until now because it's all just pointless shit. But with this revelation I... still can't bring myself to look at Tumblr.

Reading through these comments just reassures me that I'm following the right people. I don't see any of this shit on my dashboard.

Tumblr is what you want it to be, you choose who you follow. Follow people that reflect your interests and you're good.

Turn back now!

Tumblr is no place for real people. It may have once had another purpose, but now it exists solely for those afflicted by severe SJW-Derangement syndrome and Special-Snowflake-ism.

And so help you every single god if you're a straight, white male who is comfortable with the fact that he has a penis; you are literally worse than Super Mecha Super Saiyan 3 Hitler as far as Tumblr is concerned.

Well of course they are. The reason WHY they are different is kind of telling, though.

Tumblr is basically like, say, a video store. I guess those don't really exist any more, but lets pretend they do. Let's say Tumblr is Blockbuster. Person A goes in and picks out movies they like. Person B goes in and picks out movies they hate. Person B goes on the internet and says "Blockbuster only shows bad movies".

Whose fault is it? Is it Blockbuster's fault?

In that instance? It could go either way. The costumer is potentially to blame for only picking poor films, the store is potentially to blame for not making the quality films easier to locate or making sure they are in stock.

But that's a moot point. It assumes the costumer went into the store with the intention of only finding films he or she hates. This is the same assumption the previous poster was making with his assertion.

That said, I wasn't arguing for or against him or the poster he was talking with. I was just pointing out that both of them were using anecdotal evidence to back up their arguments. That's all.

And I would probably say there is truth to that assertion. People love to dine on outrage, and love to click links for things that rankle them, arouse their passions, or confirm their biases. It's why they're so easily taken in by Poes, and why they seem to be the primary audience for things they ostensibly hate.

I know. It's all good. I just chose your quote as a jumping in point. Here, take this oatmeal cookie as compensation.

I'm all out of chocolate chip. =(

You can find good artwork on Tumblr, that's really the only experience I have with it.

If your blog only posts funny misguided social justice porn gifs, I'd follow the hell out of that
I too would be down to clown. Links?

You know what I find funny? anecdotal evidence and all that but while I only follow blogs of artists and a few friends I do occasionally check tags for things I like and if anything the problem is that fans tend to be too....passionate for lack of a better term and with too many stupid "head canons", slash fics, shit cos-plays and people writing an essay on a characters motivation (which can actually be interesting to read or full of shit). Not my thing but hardly a scourge upon the world. The common SJW stuff is mostly just getting overly exited about the inclusion of minority characters. Every time there is SJW "controversy" if I cheek the tumblr tag for whatever it is it's usually about the same as here. Which is to say 90% of the people commenting on are saying the "controversy" (which can be one or two comments) is stupid or not worth the amount of vile whoever started this put into it.

Well, sure, but at the same time I imagine there's likely just as many who go in looking for something 'good'.

Either way, I'm mostly indifferent to Tumblr. Much like Facebook, Twitter, 4Chan, etc, I've seen some good things come out of it, and a hell of a lot of bad. So to me, it's just another social media site.

Fine by me. I'm not a chocolate fan, anyway.

Besides, I think we can both agree to the clear superiority of the oatmeal cookie over most other cookies. Especially if they have raisins (or craisins).
