What are your thought about this site? Is it good? I personally find it rather addicting.

Used to get hooked on it a fair bit.
Haven't gone on it in a while. Seen some videos about the horrible neckbeard stuff that goes on and that kind of put me off.

I think the site is cool, and I've had fun just reading random articles on there......

But man they have a creepy fanbase/forums

Well I've already gone off the deep end, since I started editing and adding stuff to the site.

Yep. There's no way back. Once you go trope, abandon all hope.

Wonderful place. Apparently the forums are bad but I wouldn't know.

Mind, I hate the new "formal" direction they've been going in. One of the reasons I liked it was because it had all the formality of an internet forum on a wiki. It was a very agreeable place to be.

I hate it (new formal direction) too. Used to spend days on that site, love the idea, but now I'm visiting very rarely, because it isn't as fun to read anymore as it was.

I love it. I wish the other people there would learn how to use bullet points correctly, but it's a great site for interesting trivia.
Look here [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AsbestosFreeCereal] for a list where every entry is interesting.

My main peeve is people who don't understand what a trope means and clutter it with useless stuff. Like, "Bishonen" doesn't mean "that guy is kinda hot" and so on.

I sometimes clean up when I'm too peeved.

I'm easily peeved, and I also ake sure that the tropes that I made the YKTTW for always have the bullet points and examples right.

Ye gods, I hate it when they're just adding another sentence to an example but adda new bullet point anyway. And natter. And when they respond when they should be repairing. Don't point out errors, people, correct them instead! And when they [goes on for hours]

Don't worry, I do.

Hell, aside from everything else, they're so fucking huge it's actually intimidating.
Also, do not go there for writing advice. The only good thing to come out of the TvTropes writing is this magnificent trainwreck

Check out the interlude on Major Tom's writing. It's hilarious.

I like to go on there and check out all the tropes of my favorite games.

I didn't even know there were forums on that site. But I guess it makes sense.

The site is pretty addictive when you first find it, but it wore off on me and I haven't visited it for a while. It's fun reading through the pages when you know exactly what they are talking about.

I like to go on it after I play a game or watch a movie to see what tropes apply to it or even if there are some plot details I missed. I also use it to bank up knowledge on comic books when I can't be bothered to read the Marvel wiki.
The Headscratchers section can also make for a real interesting read at times.

I don't go on the forums though and from what I've heard, I'm better off for it.

It has effectively ruined television for me as I pinpoint flaws and poorly executed tropes.

It has also made reading and writing much more involving as I actively search for said tropes.

Never click links on the site, just look at what you need to and leave... before it consumes you.

Some of the tropes aren't even tropes, but just lists of random shit. A fedora isn't a trope, and neither is the length of a stocking between the lip of a skirt and the top of a sock.

Hey hey hey, don't you go dissin' zettai ryouiki, that's serious business!

But yeah, I suppose it's not as much of a "narrative device" as it is a "fanservice device"...
