fixed that for you.

TVTropes kicks ass.

So glad Troper's Tales is gone though
I liked troper tales. I liked to play a game where I would try to guess if the poster was being disingenious or was actually being serious. And with so many I thought it would be impossible to post something that boastful or arrogant, or lacking in social skills, but you never were sure.

Could someone tell me why Troper Tales was removed?
I'm not sure but I think it was due to it becoming an embarrasment to the website.

Dislike it, mainly because of the videos people have already posted of the forum userbase. *vomits*
"I'm so nice to this girl, but she went out with someone else instead. She's such a ****!"

I also just dislike that it pretty much makes stories as boring as possible to overthinking and nitpicking them to death.

Please elaborate, comrade.
I'm really not sure about this but I imagine that it was because Troper Tales was the thing everybody pointed at when they wanted to mock the site, due to it being filled with bragging and utter social retardation.

The Admin then decided to remove it from the main site (It is still around on one of the sub-branches)to get rid of the source of the embarrasement.

plus, it was a great place to pick up new stories about illegal activity and depraved sexual encounters, amirite?

But no, for serious, I am a colossal dick about keeping things orderly on wikis, TT was anathema

The main reason that anything is removed from the site is if it costs Fast Eddie his ad revenue. Google doesn't want to put ads on a site where people go into graphic and obsessive detail over why a man fucking a prepubescent girl is a heartwarming landmark of the loli industry, and it is really just artistically brilliant

You will find that Eddie only takes action to clean up his site if it is costing him money to not do so.

Any community, given enough time and people will become absolute shit. TVtropes and the Escapist are no exception. You can find some cool stuff on Tvtropes, but the community is full of dumb people and it is run by dumb people.

The Lolicon/Rape controversy just showed how dumb both sides were. One side can't look at it artistically, and the other just wants to get rid of anything controversial.
That sounds like two subsets of the same argument. Still, how do you look at something like Bible Black artistically?

But everything else about the website is still a source of embarrassment for the rest of us to mock, so I don't know how much that accomplished.

...I think I've found your problem. Yours and Something Awful's too. You seem to be waging this witch-hunt against anything you perceive as being "creepy" or abnormal, and are unwilling to give it a second chance.

On the other hand I pretty much agree with your assessment on the site's leadership & staff.

The wikiwalks [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WikiWalk] are what keep me coming back. I find so many new bits of media to consume. Addicting stuff.

How so?
One is creeps who enjoy circlejerking about their fetishes.
The other is just what you were talking about. Fast Eddy who ants to remove anything remotely controversial that gets in the way of his add revenue.

By accepting that it is pornography. Noting if there is some semblance of story, as stupid as it may be. Talking about who it panders to.

Basically going about it normally without "OMG THAT TEACHER WAS HOOOOT AS FUCK U GUYS"

I often enjoy the site but I tend to think it does more harm than good. Somehow people have equated the notions of "trope" and "stale" without ever pausing to note that every story that can be told has been told in some form or fashion. There aren't all that many stories to tell.

Where some take that as a crushing truth and seek to denigrate some work or another because it relies on famous plot conceits (For example, Avatar was lampooned for basically retelling the story of Dances with Wolves), I'd simply point that this is true of all stories. But, just because you've heard all the details doesn't mean they can't be arranged in such a way as to be pleasing. Dances with Wolves is an incredibly tedious exploration of most of the themes of Avatar. If asked which I'd actually want to watch again, I'd pick the one that doesn't feel like a chore even if it is at least the n+1 retelling of the story.

Why, yes. Tropes are tools. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TropesAreTools] It's all in the execution. A badly written work is not badly written because it contains tropes X, Y and Z, but...because it's badly written. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShapedLikeItself]

Though there are some tropes/cliches that make me cringe, such as all those high school ones. Seriously, I need a vomitorium for those.

What about the Crowning Moments of *Whatever* sections, where people feel the need to write in random italics while mentioning something utterly mundane, to try and emphasise just how totally cool it is?

Bad. Ass.
