50 Shades of Grey.

"But wait!" I hear you shout, which is really impressive because we're probably on different continents to each other, "It's even worse than Twilight! How could you choose it?"

Simple. It's fucking hilarious when read in different voices.

That guy does a fucking awesome Zoidberg

OP: Twilight, because at least it sounds vaguely interesting in summary form.

I haven't read either and do not ever plan to, but from from a purely principled stand-point, I'd take 50 Shades all day every day. Meyer blatantly tried to make her series of asinine smut the next Harry Potter and people ate that crap up with both hands, despite the books being nothing but borderline erotica with a VERY inappropriate message aimed at teen females. 50 Shades has at least been touted as the asinine smut it is, with no pretense or claim (in Twilight's case read: lie)to be something else. I have no problem with pointless smut when it's admitting to be such, it's when the author puts on airs and tries to make it something else that I get really peeved.

I don?t want to condemn from ignorance, so what's Fifty Shades of Grey about ? I know it?s the new thing to hate and I know it?s about sex but what?s so evil about it?
Firstly, it's literally Twilight fanfic with names changed and publsihed, and now the author is making quiet possibly millions of pounds. However, that's not the only issue, in fact its the least problematic.

The books themselves are badly written. You can tell this women is a fanfic writer, not a real author, she makes alot of amateur errors that even I can spot, and I'm no editor. Describing rooms as oppulent and simplistic at the same time, things like that.

The most grievious problem with the book, however, is its depicition of the relationship between the two "protagonists". It is not a natural, normal relationship. It's not even normal for a BDSM relationship. The women buying these books are apparently blind, because they seem to think Christian Grey is some kind of hero, but in actual fact he is abusive, cold and basically one step off being a full on rapist. Girls are idolising this bloke and getting their rocks off on the "sex" he has with Anna, but in reality they should be repulsed by how he acts, not to mention the heroine is just dreadful.

You could also hate on it for the fact that it has shown something of a double standard. I would be willing to be my house on the fact that if this had been written by a man, it would not have sold so well, and people would think him sick. OR if this was aimed at men, or if this was shot-for-shot made into a porn film and a man watched it, we would be thought of as sick by most. Don't get me wrong, I know men have it easier than women most of the time, but it is still a double standard here.

Edit - OT: In case you couldn't tell, I'd obviously prefer to read Twilight.

I also works well with Consuela from Family Guy and Jeremy Clarkson, had a lot of fun reading it out at the lunch table when I was on holiday. A couple dirty looks but hey.

Twilight. I actually liked Twilight. It was a rather mediocre teen romance, but it was an easy read, easy to follow, and the premise wasn't all that bad. Plus, I kinda have a thing for teen shlock... >.> DON'T JUDGE ME!!! D: The movies were god awful though.

Probably Fifty Shades, purely because the horrendous writing and juvenile sexual content is at least funny to read whereas what little I've read of Twilight is just unbearably dull.

Fisty Shades Of Grey. Mainly because reading it out loud in funny voices is the funniest thing I've seen and heard all year. Twilight is just crap, Shades is funny crap.

Edit: the typo was intentional

Yeah, I'd read it just so I could do it in funny voices. I've got a great idea for trying to read it as The Hulk, GLaDOS, Waspinator and Beast Wars Megatron (Yeeeessss). With Twilight I'd be too busy raging or wishing I was doing something else with my time, atleast with 50 shades I can try and make it funny.

Ditto since it's funny as hell and a great way of a mockery to that aweful book. It make me wonder why they didn't do it to Twilight first (they probably did now but I'm not in the mood to look it up).

So which one is it and why?
Well, Fifty shades of Grey started off as Twilight fanfiction.

Also, according to a friend who read it the plotlines are essentially identical (minus the vampires and such), so I guess I'd normally have to choose Twilight due to it being less dirivative. However, 50 Shades of Grey forced some people to acknowledge that women (and even old women!) actually like sex and porn and sexy things, so I guess I'd rather keep 50 Shades of Grey.

Fifty Shades is so bad that it's funny. Twilight falls into that perfect stretch of shit where it is just bad enough to be painful, but not quite bad enough to be entertaining.

Twilight is better, as angsty as the characters may be at least they genuinely loved each other and Edward didn't abuse Bella in the bedroom (to our knowledge)

50 Shades is kinda messed up :|

I'm gonna have to go with twilight, if only due to the fact I have hardly heard of 50SoG. And from what I've heard its just a crappy, soft core twilight fanfic that got the luck of getting published. Not saying twilights good of course.

Ugh, you forced me to choose twilight.

Shades of Grey...is not an inspired work. Both are terrible, terrible pieces of fiction. However, Shades of Grey is worse because it rips off another terrible piece of fiction. I'm pretty sure that I can write something better than Fifty Shades quite easily. In fact...I think I will.

I read Twilight a few years back. Terrible book, and I didn't get why half my school was going nuts over it.

50 Shades is a Twilight fanfiction (a bad one at that from what I've heard), but it's got sex. So, point 50 Shades?

But, as posted before, there's the fun of reading it in a funny voice.

So, Stephanie Meyers hack writing, or a derivative of said hack writing...
I'm just going to opt to shoot whoever is forcing me to read them. Repeatedly.
