I have my own way where I start with my hands on the home row but I move my hand all over the keyboard since my fingers can't reach if they stay on the home row. Sometimes I look at the keyboard if my hands get out of place, but I normally look at the screen.

Pros: I can type faster than the normal way and can type faster with one hand than anyone who does the standard keyboard way.

Cons: I often mix up letters (really common with ly words so I type realyl instead). On top of the fact I can't spell, spell check saves my life.

I have an irregular typing method with random fingers doing random letters, sometimes it changes other times it doesn't but generally my little fingers on both hands do nothing, and the ring finger on my right hand is almost entirely used for pressing enter. Index finger on the right hand for spacebar, and I usually get told it should be my thumb.

So yeah it's fairly mixed up. Never been taught how to type the "proper" way, using the guides and whatnot. And I type just as fast while looking the other way as I do watching the screen or keyboard so long as I look at the keyboard before starting to check my position.

I mostly just do the two finger thing, and sometimes one hand. I'm actually quite fast at it.

I'm talking about typing, of course.

Also, one habit that I hate is when I hold down the shift key when I'm capitalizing, and my words end up LIke THis. I really hate it when it happens.

I use both hands, and a weird combination of fingers. Depends, really. Definitely not the home row thing, though. I never really caught on to that. Let's see...

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

Erm... I use mainly my thumb and index on my right, and everything but my pinky and thumb on the left. What a weirdo.

I'm... Not sure. I don't use the school-taught method, so I guess I just created my own style which involves having fingers that are long enough to be able to hit anything without having to move my hand too much, even though my hand's not at the "correct" spot.

I hardly look, except for when I feel I accidentaly moved my hands, and even then I usually find the right place after feeling around for a bit.

I remember being taught in school to have my index fingers on F and J, but I never did that.
I just type. I use all my fingers except for my pinky.
I can also touch type, but I usually type slower when I do that.

Uhm, we were never taught how to type at school... I learned by myself. My left hand placement is probably a little weird: pinky on shift, ring finger on A, middle finger on W, index finger on G and thumb on space... I also noticed that I alternate between pressing space with my right thumb and my left thumb depending on which one's closest. And I never look at my keyboard.

I actuall have no idea... somehow words appear on the screen. I think monkeys are involved.
Or I mostly type with my whole left hand, and use the right hand's index finger. Or at least that's the way I write at the moment while I want to know how i type... damn you, that's like the "you are now breathing manually"!
You just had to say that didn't you? Now I'm too fucking focused on making sure I don't suffocate myself to say how I type (Home Row keys all the way, baby.)
I'm sorry. Do it like me and get a medical ventilator. The only way to escape this.
Hey, at least I didn't say "ever wondered how your jaw stays up?"...
************! Say, did you know you manually move your arms when you walk? And that when you walk next to somebody long enough, you match their step pattern?!

I don't know how I do it, I just type on instinct. I know where the letters are and I know when I've made mistakes. I'm not looking right now.

Been typing since about age 5. Both hands, no special method, just glance down at the keys every so often. Got to the point where each word is just a recall of muscle memory.

Never wanted to learn the secretarial style. Wouldn't do me any good; being a C++ and Perl programmer I have to use a LOT of punctuation.

OMG WTF

I actually did know the second, it works much better when you talk too. That's why the military has their soldiers repeat stupid rhymes in every movie.
Here, take this as my excuse:

I type with all my fingers except my pinky's. And I never look at the keyboard, I type in short bursts but make a lot of typos.

I swap back and forth as far as looking at the keys, it really depends on the day.
Mistakes are fairly common. Every now and then a finger will slip, but I can usually tell right away with that. Worse problem is when I'm so busy thinking about what I'm going to say, that I'll skip words or end up putting slightly different words down. (Timing instead of time, for no discernible reason)

But I do have weird hand placement. I use all the fingers on my left hand, and every now and then it'll end up on the right side of the board. Weirdest part though, is that I only use the middle finger on my right hand, with my index finger kinda laying on top of it. Only time I change that is when I have to capitalize something, and I use my pinkie finger for shift, and index for the key.

And every now and then I'll right disturbingly long posts about things that I shouldn't think about as much as I have.
Sigh.

i use just my right hand when typing casually as for some reason i do it quicker than with both, but there is likely to be more typos so when i need to do an essay i use both and it takes longer :(

I look at the key and move my hands around the keyboard. I'm pretty fast (80 WPM) and make few mistakes. I can also type without looking, but that slows me down considerably.
