holy epic wall of text picture, batman!

er, I normally don't mind if someone uses 'u' or 'r'(much less common). If I don't like them though, that would make it worse

I hate it so bloody much. I see some illiterate spastic moron on the internet taking a damn retard seizure on the keyboard and it makes me want to strangle them. I have met so many of them and it makes me feel so angry. Having some moron looking down on me intellectually when they don't even know how to use an apostrophe properly makes me rage very, very hard.

I use it, but only when I don't have time to write whole sentences.
The only thing that bothers me is "y". It can mean yes AND why, and that is a pain in the ass if you, ie, ask someone to check something.

It takes the piss when ur trying to read it. We're programmed to recognise the shapes of words, so interpreting txtspk takes longer, and is far less pleasant to read. It's very inconsiderate, and I wouldn't expect any1 to read what uve written.

There's a reason we standardised the English language...

Text-speak is... lazy. Why bother wasting time looking for replacements for letters and words when you can just type them out anyway? I've come across examples of text-speak, where the alternate word is longer than the fucking original. It's okay if used in texts, because that's what it's bloody for, but if used online, or even in handwriting [and I have seen an example of the latter], it's outright stupid.

Personally, though I don't like useing, "u" and "r" in texting, and I don't do it myself, it is justifiable in text messaging. I must admit that grudgingly. If you're typing on a keyboard, there is no excuse for such shorthand, but in a text message, you have no ambiguity of language by useing shorthand, and you could actually save a good 10 seconds. Once that shorthand leaks into the real world, however...

I have to say that the picture, though epic, is a bit extreme, to compensate for the worst abuses of language. I try to encourage decent grammar, but make mistakes. My concern was saved up until the very end, where I realized that I probably make the Then/Than mistake somewhat regularly.

I try as hard as I possibly can to use proper grammar because I'm civilized, and I have an education. I'm thankful to have my education; Therefore I use it.

Personally i made it my ROE to not even start conversation with anyone who in first words manages to use 'r' or 'u' or 'y' instead of using full words. If someone can't be arsed to type in those few letters more, then i don't see why i should bother with responding, no matter how urgent he thinks his issues are.

Im less woried about typos or light grammar mistakes as i make plenty of those myself, but lazyness with all types of text/leet speaks are a big no-no.
Pretty much same with abusive use of '!' or '?' ad infinitum, it just tells me that whoever wrote those apparently has some mental issues.

I despise them with all my being. Saving the sorry little sliver of a second that you may in trade for your sentence being turned into blather is idiotic, and those who do it are (big reveal here) idiots.

I think it annoys me all the more due to the fact that english is my second language. For the following reasons:

A: I spent years learning english through public school and the gymnasium. I believe I gained a certain degree of respect for the language and its quest for world domination. It is, I am fairly sure, the closest thing ever to a globally spoken tongue. But noooo, you can piss all over that because you can't be arsed to finish of a gorram sentence! Argh!

B: As a nonnative english speaker, my first instinct when seeing a singular letter is to pronounce it according to my first language, because I do not recognise it as an english word. Rebuilding a sentence after that first misaligned impression really grates on me.

C: Actually unrelated to language. Grarh! Me smash illiterate idiots! GRAAA!

Grammar and Spelling Nazi's piss me off. To all of them, I say this: Could you just stop being a pretentious nerd for two fucking seconds and realize that the internet is not a fucking novel and as long as you can understand what people are saying it really doesn't fucking matter. Fucking.

Oh the irony...

That has to be the greatest picture ever and thank you for sharing it with the world.

But yeah, it gets pretty annoying when people do stuff like that... it's not that hard to type the entire word and it actually makes it much easier to read. People are people, you know?

Well, im just curious, whats your opinion on people typing letters and numbers instead of words?
Personally, I dont really understand why you would.
Alot of people blame "English is not my first language", but I dont really know of any languages that have words consisting of singular letters and numbers.

Anywho, whats your opinion on this?

I also found this picture.

This is the most wonderful thing I ever saw...If... only someone would say it.

It gets me agitated and I usually point it out. Especially the "your" and "you're" thing. It's just kinda stupid how people STILL don't know the difference. And some of them are fucking older than 20.

...And yet, people using different modes of communication is arguably a hinderance to understanding. That's the rub, isn't it?

I have no problem with typos. People get in a hurry and make mistakes. That's fine. I can also tolerate occassional laziness/rushing, like say when somebody doesn't want to get type-killed while playing an FPS. But when I am presented with a post or message where I have to actually stop and think in order to figure out what the person was trying to say, I inevitably ask myself "if this person doesn't care enough about what they are trying to say to communicate it clearly, why should I care enough to listen?"

Sorry, but I don't think that makes me either pretentious or a nerd. I think that makes me an adult. It's not my job to figure out what you're trying to say.

Oh, and -heh- you should've used "Nazis". ;)

I see no problem with people using letters for words, just get me the message dammit! However, when people start using these things in speech, I go get my Grammer Gun o' Death.

Also, the guy who made the picture used the comma incorrectly, or at least, a semi colon may have proven more apt.

The ****
You failed to spell grammar correctly.
The irony...

I can taste it!
This I love more than anything. In roughly 50-60% of posts I see with someone complaining about grammar, they'll have spelt it wrong. I never pick apart someone's post unless they've gone out of their way to do it to someone else. Then I'll go to town.

Nice rant. I agree, it really pisses me off when people don't use proper grammar. I might be able to forgive little things if English is not someone's first language, but if someone does it out sheer laziness I can't stand it.

For the same reasons you will never see me use the 'word' lol (with the exception of right there).
