i don't really care.
since in holland we do use the U.

U=for formality or older people.
jij=for normal use among peers and such.

if you're gonna write a book, use grammar.
if you're gonna play a mmorpg just use the letters.

In MMO's when I need to type as fast as possible due to incoming danger or the like, I type ALOT faster if im typing entire words.

Eh, it makes the person typing it looks stupid, but I don't really find it that annoying.

What's more annoying to me is when people use words that don't mean what they think they do. Like using "affect" in stead of "effect" (or vice-versa), "climatic" in stead of "climactic", "bear" in stead of "bare", "loose" in stead of "lose", etc.

Also, just because:

Personally, I don't really understand why you would.
A lot of people blame "English is not my first language", but I don't really know of any languages that have words consisting of singular letters and numbers.

Anyhow, what's your opinion on this?
Yeah, I actually have a good reason for that.
My keyboard is 5 years old and my keys get stuck, they only work when they want to, hell, the little arrow next to the Z key doesnt even work at all..
There is an arrow next to your Z?

The pic is amazing and I think we should teach third grade with it.

The only place where these abbreviations have any place is phone texting.
Though I hate texting, and don't understand the point of it. Is it not easier and faster to call somebody and settle a whole conversation in less that one minute, rather than have a text-off over the course of 10 minutes? Am I wrong?
That is why I dislike abbreviating words like that, because it justifies the stupid act of texting.

My opinion? It's pretty much all summed up in that very epic picture (which is awesome).

Oh, and this seems appropriate: This be a link y'all [http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html] (just found out how to name links :D)

Funny how in the picture they bash people for wirting a letter intead of a word and call them lazy for not writing two more letters but it is correct to write "don't" intead of "do not" wich saves just one letter.

English isn't my first language isn't an excuse for writing letters instead of words since (neither i think people use that excuse) it would be harder for people that know little english to use that type of writing. I do understand people not know how to use apostrofes and capitalizing "I" in middle sentece, that isn't done in spanish at least, teachers will kick your ass for using capitals in middle sentece, unless it is a name.

I hate it, I hate everyone who can't write proper English unless they have som sort of dyslexia or similar that makes them unable to write proper English.
[SUB]By the way, that was a loooooong and awesome picture.[/SUB]

And that is why you always have a Word document open to proof read BEFORE you post

I love you for bringing this image to my attention, and I love the writer even more. I have actually bookmarked that image's location
I'm constantly amazed by the sheer mass of people can't spell or punctuate correctly in my classes, and I'm thankful for the fact I teach maths, where letters aren't used a whole lot except in algebra, but when I ask for explanations, people manage to put "u" "y" and "r" as whole words.
I actually tell them to rewrite the explanation with correct spelling and punctuation if it's bad enough.

Back On Topic: I'm also amazed that so many people manage to get confused with "then" and "than" but I usually don't call them on it because the pronunciation is fairly similar, and it may be identical in some accents.

If I type like that (I C wat u did thar) it will be just for laughs and to mock the people who are actually typing "leet" or whatever. I dont have perfect grammar, but to me when someone types like that I get the impression they are either a rapper, a wannabe-rapper, or stupid (which is sort of the same thing when I think about it).

I dont judge people based on it, people can always surprise you, but I will have much worse first impression of them than if they typed "properly".

Yeah how could I say anything after the picture said it all for me; any further input from me into this thread would be redundant, or superfluous if you will.

First off, great picture. I needed something like that to start my day. Secondly, this notion of replacing letters with numbers only bothers me when the person does it all the time.

To be honest i think alot worse of the people who bring this pathetic little rant up again and again like we should all gather round and have some sort of pointless lynching

Why the hell do you care? does it keep you up at night or something and the only way you can sleep is if you go on some little power trip and hope everyone will massage your ego until you calm down.

Get over it! people find it easier and quicker to abbreviate or use a number instead of a word as long as you can read it why does it matter? people post for fun not to be marked.

Having perfect grammar and spelling doesn't make you more intelligent or your points any more valid get over yourself.
