I hate it too. I don't understand all of you saying that it's acceptable in a text message. Does nobody know of predictive text? You only need to press a button once instead of 2 or 3 times to get a letter so it's a lot faster and all the spellings in it are correct. I seem to be the only person to use predictive text these days.

That image almost put tears in my eyes. That right there is a prime example of idiocy in the community. I hate reading text messages that clearly define that picture.

I only have one friend who can type as clear as day with near-perfect grammar and he's a pharmacy technician. So, there you have it.

My excuse is many years of online interaction with forums and MMO's. Runescape is an MMO, I guess. So, I played a few years of that before Guild Wars for a couple years, then World of Warcraft for six months before dropping them all.

Well, im just curious, whats your opinion on people typing letters and numbers instead of words?
Personally, I dont really understand why you would.
Alot of people blame "English is not my first language", but I dont really know of any languages that have words consisting of singular letters and numbers.

Anywho, whats your opinion on this?

I also found this picture.

Amen to that. It's hard for me to understand "words" written with numbers and no - "English is not my first language" either. It's also annoying and disrespectful to readers (in my opinion).

However, - it also reflects real or mental age of the writer, which can be useful, when you choose how to respond.

I would post my honest thoughts about that picture, which I absolutely agree with, but I understand that my post will be pinned under 5 pages of posts no one is going to take the time to read. That is one reason I don't like the Escapist. Seriously, I only post in threads with 15 or less posts.

I try to constantly follow those basic, grammatic rules. However, i can't really say i capitalize the "i" unless it's located at the start of a sentence.

I hate text talk. I find it takes so much more time to translate a line of text talk than a regular sentence that I just give up and don't care about what the person is trying to say. It's probably nothing intelligent anyway since they can't even spell at a fifth grade level.

I used to type in that manner when I was, you know, 15, but I grew out of it by the time I had hit junior year of high school. I don't even use text talk in text messages.

I really don't mind, so long as it doesn't devolve into unintelligible squeaks.
That being said, I find if I use text speak too much, too often, it has a serious effect on my normal spelling ability. So I prefer to just spell correctly most of the time, with the exception f words I fell to be unnecessarily long, such as probably(which I shorten to proly) and so on.

doesn't really matter unless they're trying to make a valid point and are trying to be taken seriously.

The only time I use only U is when doing math problems.

I can see your problem with I, U and Y but then and than is a bit more complicated. Knowing that letters != words is easy but using the correct of two words that are usually indistinguishable in regular speech is more complex.

Saves time when texting or when I need to type quickly, such as when playing an MMO.

I'm not being assessed, my spelling is the least of the internet's problem.

The only time that I really care when people talk with single letters and numbers and random shit like that is in Text messages and all they respond with is a single letter known as k. IT WASTES MY FUCKING TEXTS.
