Oh man, poor UK. This isn't going to solve early sexualisation. If anything it will probably increase bootleg porn sales, but this time a big buyer will be underage kids.
(Probably Ninja'd here, but...)

There's no change there, then!

Isn't the "sexualization of children" due to the media, adverts and celebrity culture? Oh right, we NOT supposed to be rational.

Nevermind.

Why don't they just go whole-hog and ban puberty? Develop drugs that prevent maturation and mandate that all children take them until their 18th birthday, so that they can go from sweet and innocent children to functional, responsible adults at the turn of a calendar page. That seems to be the fantasy of lazy parents everywhere.

Exploring sexuality is a cornerstone of the human psyche, and I'm more than willing to bet that all of these laws and customs trying to circumvent that have done far more harm to their own cause than good.

And then I moved to the states. Our country's gonna be ruined. I'm not saying we pride ourselves on our porn but this is a really pathetic thing to do.

How is this helping anyone?
This is just so a bunch of stuck up people can be even more stuck up..

Oh wait..
"Pornography sites will be blocked at source unless people specifically ask to view them."
So basically, nothing will be different then!
"Do not click this unless you are over 18"

Great job UK, way to make a law that does nothing and still somehow pisses off everyone.
Yeah, this law should be about as effective as trying to stop the Niagara Falls with a rusty thimble.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain if China can't keep their population from looking at un-favourable content, the UK wont be able to either.

Man, governments around the world are really getting quite controlling, aren't they?

Look, I can get in on the whole "media brainwashing people" thing, because it does have a very profound, and at times, negative effect on people. But while I hate private entities having control over our lives, I also hate the government having control as well.

It's not the sex that's the problem, exploring sexuality is perfectly natural and healthy. I think the problem with a lot of sexualized media we see today is the narrow standardization of beauty and sexuality, the commercialization of it all. Individuality and uniqueness are not celebrated in today's media, it's repressed and people are objectified. Look at your TV ads, everybody looks and acts the same, most of the time they are the ideal, shallow consumer.

And I think most of the damage isn't done through porn, but through other, non-pornographic forms of media, because those are often more commercialized, which I think is the real danger. Most porn people watch out there comes from those free websites with a bunch of amateur porn, and what's wrong with that? It's normal, everyday people fucking for other normal, everyday people to watch. All of the brand association and brand loyalty that is constantly injected into our brains from childhood in commercials and TV shows isn't there. It's made by people, for people. The internet has proved very conductive to that, and I think it's what we should strive for. We need to take back our culture so we aren't passive consumers that are reliant on large entertainment corporations for culture.

so, you're saying pornography has the moral high ground against other forms of media?

Scary thing is, I kind of agree with you. While there are 'stars' in the industry, I've never felt like porn has pushed someone on me that I'm supposed to like, unlike, music, movies, etc.

Almost anyone can do it if they want to and find an audience, too, as tastes are so varying (a paying audience maybe not, but when it's free people will look.)

While a fair amount of porn is still the stereotypical slender blonde with implants, I think it's slowly moving away, and there seems to be room for everyone, thanks to rule 34 and the wide range of fetishes out there.

I guess I'm just saying it's nice to have one form of entertainment that neither Cowell nor Disney are running :)

:L First thing that sprung to mind was a sheepish pro-porn protest.

Everyone shuffling to the house of commons occasionally flicking pebbles at windows. Someone mumbling something about free speech before shutting up when everyone looked at him to see if something meaningful was going to come out.

Actually...that's probably a bigger cause of early sexualization and sexual deviencey than any amount of porn out there.

You start noticing kids trying to emulate someone who's only job/talent is having pictures taken of them that emphasise their 'assets' and shack up with other celebrities then you have a problem, and sadly, this is a problem that you'll probably notice more than some kid being deranged due to porn overdose.

Oh, yeah, not like parents could do this on their own. By checking their kid's browser history, or blocking porn sites with that "parental control" option on every fucking computer.

Why do people rely on the government now for shit they can do in three minutes?
When I was about 13 then my parents tried to do that.
It's easy to bypass it, so I did.

I find this really bad, Even to "PROTECT THE CHILDREN"
EDIT: Okay, I know a lot of you guys said how does and Australian news site know this and to be honest I am asking that too, I just saw it on my daily news breakfast and thought to myself "WOW, I NEED TO TELL MORE PEOPLE" but now that I think about it, Yeah, but still, Go read the actual article fully before saying something like that
I'm calling bullshit on this, the news breaks not in the UK but...half way around the world in Australia?

Nah bullplop, its the same as the 'church stops bells on sunday because it offends muslims' and 'butcher stops selling bacon sarnies because the smell offends muslims'

its bullplop and its from a country where the government stiffels all adult content, smells like diversionary tactic to me "look the UK has no porn at all! Now count yourself lucky we evven allow you children's video games!"

But why kids so on the internet search boobs, they laugh and then think something along the lines of then what.

Banning it wont change anything. It will just piss a load of people off.

But then if they filter porn what is stopping them from filtering other things at the same time. I am sure there are lots of websites out there the government does not want the public visiting.

Instead of using parental controls to stop access to pornography - so-called "opting out" - the tap will be turned off at source. Adults will then have to "opt in."
This sounds like a measure of government blackmail.

"So, Mr. Radcliffe, I see you're into horses and women. Well, that's perfectly legal, but I'm sure the public would love to hear about this unless we get your consent to testify against...hmm? You will testify? Glad to hear if Mr. Radcliffe."
