I've recently got back into RPG mode and decided to dig out some classics for the PS2. Began playing Final Fantasy 8-which in my opinion is the best of the selection.
But im pretty sure a load of you will think FF7 if you've had the chance to play it. Just wondered what those of you lucky enough to play it thought was the greatest?
Final Fantasy is not a RPG in the end. Final Fantasy falls under "JRPG". In a true RPG you choose a role, and have options that at least effect how you go about the story to some extent, or at least the ability to personalize your characters growth outside of equipment (IE controlled, or trainable stats) JRPGs break such a thing. The only thing you have control of is your part composition, attacks, and equipment, and if that is all you need to make an RPG then CoD4, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: SoC, and soul calibur are RPGs...
I was never a fan of Final Fantasy, I will be first to admit (FF7 to me was the worst. Horrible story telling, horrible lines, horrible character developement, an inconsistent world (Why the fuck doesnt that asshole cloud just use a phoenix down on Aeris and a Soft Potion and Red XIII's father!?), and a half baked "days of our lives can do better" story) But to be honest... I say the "Best" of all that I have played would be either...
6: Very nice story for a FF game, the dialouge was bad, but camp at the same time which made it charming, and decent graphics, not to mention such a large game for a SNES title)
9: I gotta admit, 9 broke the usual 3D FF train. It had likeable characters, it understood it was a fantasy game and stopped trying to be so dramatic every waking second, and all around was pleasent,
1: Because they knew they had bad dialouge, so the main characters just kept their mouth shut (Unlike most other FF games in which they should have done that)
But ultimate wise in the end... I am going to have to lean towards 9. The graphics just fleshed out the world better then FF6 could in the end.
