Hm... I dunno... it just had a pretty epic (not that deep) campaign, awesome multiplayer, OH WAIT IT BROKE ALL KINDS OF RECORDS ON SALES.

But Uncharted deserved it.
In all seriousness, who gives a shit how well it sold? That's the flimisest logic I've ever heard. So by your argument, we should give New Moon the Best Picture Oscar, too?

Please, elaborate. Why in God's name should Modern Warfare 2 have been named game of the year?
Because it is a fun game, and definitely GOTY worthy. I would pick Uncharted 2 over it, though. I'm glad it won.

I am completely psyched that a PS3 exclusive won game of the year. but my question is this DO YOU agree???
Not in the slightest. Borderlands and Assassin's Creed II were both far superiour titles to Uncharted 2.

Agreed. Sales do not make it a better game.

I had more fun playing Batman AA then anyother game in recent memory. It was a great game and it should have won in my opinon.

No. Absolutely not. The awards were rigged. MW2 should win. Now, don't get me wrong, I haven't played either game (though they do look cool) but, come on! MW2 is a multiplatform release, more people have voted for it than Uncharted, which is PS3 exclusive. That's some serious BS.
Seriously? If the awards were rigged MW2 would've have won it considering the amount of money they just made. My vote goes to Borderlands though, it had some originality that the FPS industry GRAVELY needs (also another reason why MW2 should not win).

Fanboy much?
Oh we're doing this.

I'm a fanboy because I didn't like ODST, a game that offered zero innovation to any of the shooter cliches it pandered to, or did anything bold, original, or even particularly enjoyable over its microscopic campaign and tired, dragged-through-the-dirt multiplayer? A game that had no right to be released as a full-priced title, yet made you pay out the nose to play what was a (better) game that you already played two years ago? Yeah, you really called me out on that one Damn my implacable, narrow-minded fanboy ideals.

And Jesus Christ, what is the big deal about Borderlands?? It was a shooter. a shooter is a shooter is a shooter. No amount of cel-shading or randomly generated weapons could possibly make that game interesting for more than half an hour.

No, Uncharted shouldn't have gotten it. Either Modern Warfare 2, or Borderlands should have.

It obvoiusly has nothing to do with being the best selling game of the year and making $500, 000 in 5 days. That can't be part of it.
And how does it make it good? Twilight and New Moon both sold like crap, and yet it still sucks.

OT: Not too sure about Uncharted 2 winning game of year, considering I haven't played it yet, but i think Arkham Asylum should probably have gotten it.
I'm not saying that makes it good, I'm just pointing out one reason why is might have become it. I don't actually remember ever saying it was good.
...Your logic makes no sense. You say that since MW2 had such great sales, that it should've gotten Game of the Year, but it didn't. So for once, they actually didn't base it on sales, which is a good thing. So...you're fighting for an argument you don't even agree with? Whats the point?

Well if you played it...then you can form your own opinion about it. So, not agreeing with everyone about Borderlands is fine.

I personally didn't see much in it (I haven't played it though), but since my friends weren't going to purchase it, it has kept me away from it as well. I'm sure any game where you get 3 buddies to play with should be some good fun.

Personally I think Dragon Age should have got it, but Uncharted 2 had my vote before Dragon Age came along, just sneaking past Arkham Asylum. It was a very good game.

Ok let me summarize my opinions about the matter:

Uncharted 2 - Deserved it because even if you didn't pick up the first, it was enjoyable and far surpassed my expectations of having a good single player mode and a long experience at that.
Assassin's Creed 2 - It also deserves it, but I question the difficulty
Arkham Asylum - To me it's a special case considering everyone thinks its "Great!...for a superhero videogame." Let's just say I pick AC 2 over this
ODST - Ummmm, patch much?
MW 2 - Really a downer for a single-mode player like me. I thought it would have better single mode than MW 1
Borderlands - Feels like a grindfest without multiplayer. I'd love to try multiplayer though
Dragon Age: Origins - I was interested in it until I dreamed that Mass Effect 2 would go on to the PS3. But seriously, if I'm playing an RPG, I'd go for futuristic than medieval.

These are strictly only my opinions though, considering I'm all for single player modes.

Crap I missed The VGAs. Well im surprised (and a little relieved but a lttle disappointed) it wasn't MW2. Uncharted 2 was great fun and does deserve that, but I think it's on the same level as Batman AA, and ACII. Still im satisfied

Well... I played Borderlands almost the week it came out and it got pushed off of my GOTY nominations for one reason... upon launch the friend to friend multiplayer would NOT work unless you went and found off-brand patch updates. Any title that fails to launch in a completely working manner, in terms of what was a major selling feature, deserves to be left out of any list for GOTY

I didn't not see that one. Granted I only played Batman and AC2 but still I was very surprised. Speaking of Batman though the teaser for Batman Gotham City or whatever they will called got me so pumped.

i haven't played it (i only have a 360) but i would say yes from what i've heard. let's run down the list of the other great games this year.

MW2 - still not polished enough, stupid plot
AC2 - still repetitive
L4D 2 - not deep enough, nothing but gameplay
ODST - not realy a full game (this was my fav of the year though)
Borderlands - didn't play, can't say.

without looking at the sales charts, i think those were the top selling games other than Uncharted 2. i would've had Forza 3 as my dark hores, but i realise that there's a much smaller market for racing games.

oh well. This isn't "the biggest gaming event EVER" and the band is terrible by the way.

The highest grossing film of all time is Titanic, the best selling album of the 90's was Shania Twain's Come on Over.

Units sold does not equate to quality. Modern Warfare 2 is not as deserving as Uncharted 2. Naughty Dog took everything from 1 and improved it demonstrably, especially the multiplayer. It's highly polished, a decent length and very, very good.

Modern Warfare 2 has a similar amount of polish, but delivered an underwhelming, extremely shortlived experience, as well as putting in a multiplayer component that improved very slightly for some customers but put others back by ten years, not to mention being full of bugs and with apparently no hack proofing. You can't be game of the year if you can't deliver a functioning game to your user base.

On topic, Uncharted 2 seems a good choice, Batman was great, Borderlands was pretty good and AC2 is similar to Uncharted in that it improves many of the bugbares from the first. But Uncharted 2 is probably the most complete (if unoriginal) game to have come out this year.

It was a great game and all but you play it once it was over. Unlike Borderlands per say
