Because as much as we like to take the piss out of other countries for being full of morons we have the epitome of idiocy right here on our street corners on friday nights drinking cider in their track suits with their asses hanging out of their trousers.

We want the population to go down if anything. The worlds full enough as it is, let alone if everyone has five babies each. Hell, I know three people who have eight or ten siblings.
I actually agree with you that the population should go down, what I meant was that these kids are keeping things stable since the overall population is declining. However, when I posted previously I had completely forgotten about immigration and migration/emigration as well as life expectancy which will boost or reduce a population significantly depending on positive or negative growth attributed to any one of those factors.

Projections for the population of the UK indicate growth by 350,000 - 445,000 a year, adding 10 million people to reach 70.75 million in mid-2031 and rising to 77 million in 2050.The TFR (total fertility rate) varies from 1.84 to 1.92 children per woman during this period, and net inward migration ranges between 190,000 and 240,000 a year. It shows that without a change in population policy, our numbers could reach 85 million in 2081.

So, yes, a decrease in the population would be beneficial, if only to reduce the carbon footprint and reduce resource consumption.

I'm only really going by the statistics here, if there's any other information you can provide to me then I'd gladly change my mind. But yes, as I said, I totally agree with you about decreasing the population somehow.

Combination of a welfare state, media hailing teenage mothers as heroes, and piss all to do except shag all day.

As soon as these three things dissapear the teenage pregancy rate will fall, I guarantee it.

I've heard that many girls are so desperate to be "loved" that perhaps they are lax with protection.

I've also heard that the free council house you get for a teen pregnancy is an incentive.

The fact of the matter is we need to FORCE responsibility on the males. If you screw up you fucking deal with it.

Oh yes, because the penis is evil and all these unfortunate girls are heroes for having taken it and beared with the consequences. You realise that's the same shit that the media spouts out here and is more the part of the problem than the solution.

It takes two to tango, and I certainly wouldn't put the blame solely on the male after most of these girls can't even remember the name of the father.

Honestly I didn't even know it had become such a problem, But if a young girl and boy decide to have unprotected sex, it is important they both bear the responsibility of what they have done.

Teens are getting pregnant because they're having sex. I thought we were clear that was how this worked.
You mean it's not a stork?

Still, it's staggering that people are screwing so much and not using any form of contraception.

Well she's 18 now, but that's worse. Ironic thing is about 5 minutes after I posted that she phoned up and said she had just got a Tattoo :)

My mother is quite pissed off, and I'll get the aftermath. The tattoo is of some rum company. ???
Nope it'd have been ironic if she rang up and told you she was pregnant...but as a fellow elder sibling I hope it doesn't happen to her...I know if one of my little sisters got pregnant I flip out, calm down go and have a talk with whoever had done this to them and then if they were unwilling to get a job and support her I'd have to castrate them then and there
lol I'm so nice :(

I can't speak for the UK but I have a few theories on why it's so bad in the US. For the most part the US has poor sex education (at least in the Southeast), and there is a constant push for absence only education. Politicians don't want schools teaching contraception methods saying that's the right of the parents. However, most parents don't feel comfortable talking about sex. Our society is highly sexualized, yet no one wants to talk about sex.

The lack of education, coupled with the students not having anyone to talk probably leads to the high teenage pregnancy rate my country has. For comparisons the US has the 2nd highest teen pregnancy rate of all the developed countries. Russia is number 1 is anyone wanted to know.

Have a kid, get a free house (and priority means you'll get it pretty quick) and child support. Get enough kids and the house gets nicer and you can earn a cool 30 grand a year.

Beats getting a job.

Eh, my problem is that sex is for procreation and if people realised that and treated it with greater taboo then it'd be much less of a problem.

Not for much longer with the Tories in, you can expect that will change to :

But you also have to keep in mind that Sex Education in the UK is Shockingly poor.
It's true, you gotta admit somthing is wrong when you've got channel 4 putting out shows called "The Sex Education Show" which is trying to be far more open and informative about everything sex related than any government based scheme.

Right, serious question, why is the rate of pregnancy so high with Teenagers in the UK?

Why does the UK have such a high rate? 51 out of 1000 in the highest parts of britain.

Why? It baffles me how people can have sex without a condom, becoming a dad would scare the hell out of me, why doesnt it for these people?

What do you think is the reason for such high rates in he UK, or for that matter, any country?

Sorry if it's a silly thread but i'm just curiouss
I remember something about there being a law for preggers ladies, in which they get to live off the goverment, via welfare, which includes a house or apartment. So basically all those kids get preggers because it ensures a steady income and a roof over their heads due to a lack of options or rather opportunities. At least that's what the cultural studies books say. And sex is amazing, apparently.

Mathematics is probably the strongest contraceptive of all...

Anyway, my blind uneducated assumption on the matter is that nobody tries to go anywhere in their lives. Seems like the certain people who have one or two issues with the work they're doing in school decide "Right, that's me incapable of passing exams, so I'm going nowhere, I'll just join the army/work in a shop/go on the dole/work for my dad/some other career which needs no qualifications when I'm eligible, may as well have fun for now". So they just jerk around in school all day, go out and get smashed every night, opposite gender suddenly becomes much more attractive, sexsexsexsexsexsexbaby. Guy keeps telling himself he's either free of consequence since he'll be out in Iraq before the baby is born, or that he'll be able to support the child whilst fighting. Girl kids herself that the guy's always going to help support the baby, ignoring all evidence to the contrary, baby then arrives with no father and a mother who just cannot support the child.

Either that, or this military man realises he actually has to be intelligent as well as physically fit to be a good soldier, and drops out. Or this man working for his dad realises he actually has to do a proper 9-5 job, and drops out. No income, failed at life, only thing that works is the girlfriend, so let's focus on her.

Hm, maybe mathematics would make a good contraceptive, let people get somewhere further with their lives.
