Some of the old 2D games are surprisingly fun, but I'd have to mark out Streets of Rage 2. It still plays like a unique game and is always very challenging and incredibly fun, no matter how old it gets. Some things age well.

Arcanum. From the Fallout series creators. Great game, although I think the gameplay will be be too clucnky for nowadays standards.

Condemned. One of the best games I've ever played, yet hardly any of my friends have even heard of it!

Red Steel, maybe? I mean, if you don't mind the worthless story and ugly graphics, the gameplay itself is unexpectedly good. Honestly!

definitely phantom crash. i say this in every underrated game thread and i'll say it again in this one. best. mech game. evar. bar none.
This.
Phantom Crash was so good I kept it despite the fact I sold off my original Xbox (and thanks to non-existent 360 compatability it barely runs now) but still while I could use it, terrific game. Tournament fighting battle mechs at their brightest.
Also someone mentioned Jet Set Radio, which really shone out as the best game on the Dreamcast in my opinion. JSR Future for the 360 is really good too, if requiring a little more patience.

Someone please release these games for current gen consoles! There's a goldmine to be had.

The game was rated high, and has a rather large fanbase...
Hmmm. Maybe it was jus underappreciated within my reality...

Zone of Enders.

See, Zone of Enders was a cool game that was just TOO short and ended at a point that left the player feeling completely ripped off.

"The Thing" for the PS2. Really cool survival horror title based on John Carpenter's classic that kind of continues the story.

It never seems to get talked about, but i think it could very well be the best movie-related (kindof) game i've ever played!
Oh yeah, I remember playing that on my friend's PS2 when I was a kid. Scared the crap out of me.

Now for the greatest underrated game that I always mention in underrated game threads: Freelancer. Damn it was fun.

Maybe so, I dont expect any of my mates would have heard of it, all they car about is Halo and Cod.
Same here. If it's not World at War, then it's COD4

Under appreciated game = XIII .I never heard much about it, just saw it in a shop one day and bought it (actually bought it over in America and brought it home, I think). It is a great game!

Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3.
How it didn't get more publicity is beyond me. Most awesome game in history.

Once again I must stress Otogi: Myth of Demons.
It is a hack n' slash game that is another entry into a genre over populated by large breasted scantily clad women bouncing their stuff around while needlessly large amounts of gore spew out all over the place, and Otogi instead dared to be artistic and beautiful with great art design and authentic Japanese themes. A brilliant piece of software and honestly the only Hack N' Slash I really liked. It is art, unique and beautiful it has a very special place in my heart.

There's a Valkyria sequel for PSP? I'm surprised I wasn't aware of that.

Actually I have an odd one for the list- Sonic Adventure 2 [Battle, for the GC]. By this point many people had given up on the idea of new Sonic games being any good but honestly I found this game as addicting as hell. It got pretty mediocre reviews and if it weren't for my association with the old Dreamcast version I might never have picked it up, but I think it deserved better than the attention it recieved.
