I'm more of a FPS kind of guy, but my two gems are both racers as these are massively underrepresented on these threads - every one always talks about the wierd platformers that sold 12 copies in Korea in 1995... and Psychonauts.

Boxster Challenge on the Playstation 1. Fantastic weighty handling from the cars, exciting tracks that really made you concentrate, and the best graphics for its time.

Needs for Speed high speed pursuit - great fun having the police involved years before GTA went 3D police chasetastic, the tracks are cool, the cars handle well. Awesome.

Both these games are classics as they are FUN! Something really missing from a lot of games at the moment (Condemned 2 fun?)

What about all those games (the non-popular ones) that were amazing, but seemed to pass by the public's eye? What games do you know of that deserve more praise then what they are given.

For example...
Ico
Okami
Etc...

Oh, and if this has been done before, sorry. I used the search feature and found one topic, that seemed to have more popular games then this. Also, it didn't seem as specific as this one.
Dang it! Ico isn't underappreciated. It's overappreciated if you ask me.
But yeah, some games that are underappreciated...
Medievil 1 and 2
Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle

Magic Carpet 2. Unfortunately, you need to download an MS-DOS emulator to play it if you have a modern computer, which I don't have and can't find.

Sanitarium. It's probably more famous than I think it is, but I thought it was worth a mention anyway.
Have you tried dosbox? Its pretty easy to find.

Yeah, threads like these are ALWAYS made, and tend to always get the same answers, too. Like, people will say Shadow of the Colossus, even though it sold enough copies to make Greatest Hits. Then pretty much everybody will say Psychonauts, and then probably Grim Fandango. Ico and Okami are also regularly recurring mentions in these threads. There aren't many responses that people make that aren't cliche to some extent.
Yeah, that's what I was worried about >.<.

in rts I'd have to say 7 kingdoms and 7 kingdoms II

they came out around same time as AOE so they aren't well known and they had pretty bad graphics, but some of the game mechanics between the two of them I would like to see in a few rts nowdays.

edited for master of orion... heard about first 2 but only played the third

last one I'm not really sure how popular it is but dynasty warriors series. Awesome hack and slash game for xbox and ps3 (wish they'd bring out a game for pc).

Sexy Hiking.

No, really. It's an actual game, made by some guy named Jazzuo. Infuriatingly difficult, poorly designed, buggy -

- and completely awesome.

Given that this type of virus...I mean thread is pretty much spawned every day, maybe we chould just make a sticky of it in this forum or just restrict this subject to User Review?
And yes a lot of the time the names are always the same even though so many were actually successful and widely distributed.

Mafia on the PC is pretty sweet, and harldy anyone I know has played it.
Timesplitters: Future Perfect was a very Very good game. The story mode was good, and I spent weeks playing the additional modes. Plus the multiplayer was a modern day Goldeneye.

I'd quite like the idea of a sticky. I use it to see what kind of games I can play when I run out of other games. Very fun trying all sorts of different games this way too.

Also, I haven't really seen any other threads of this kind. I've seen some LIKE them, talking about "hyped" games, or just "awesome" games, but not "games that no one knows about, that rockkkkkk".

Then again, I'm not sure what people have called the threads I guess. I did a search and found one that was close, but not close enough.
