Adventures in Babysitting is vastly underrated. So is The Others (that sweet horror movie with Nicole Kidman).

Hudson Hawk, seriously under-rated!
Amen. I would also nominate Clue: The Movie as well.

Big Trouble in Little China is probably the greatest example of this.
all hail Jack Burton!

Clue: The Movie.

Possibly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Watched it countless times as a kid and recently found it in DVD form. Anyone who enjoys a good laugh should check it out! :D
And thirded, it's a classic!

The Relic

I never hear people mention this movie anymore, not even in a negative way.

It starred Penelope Ann Miller in like her last big movie part ever, and Tom Sizemore when he was still a size less. Sure it was littered with horror movie clichés, but it was very effective in creating a threatening atmosphere and it was just an all around fun movie.

How is that underated? Last time I check it was an acclaim movie and won an award.

OT- The only ones I can think of is Scott Pilgrim Vs the World and the Butterfly Effect (I wouldn't called it amazing but it's good).

A Bronx Tale.

Most people haven't even heard of it but it's a really refreshing piece of writing and film making. Even though there's the usual Italian mafioso type gang on the block there's always a sense that the film is taking the romance out of the whole idea, save for the mob boss all of the gangsters are quite pathetic in their own way.

There's also a great rivalry between Robert Deniro (playing a working man rather than a gangster for once) and Chazz Palminteri (fuck knows how you spell it) who are both father figures to the main character and both in their own way try to deter him from a life of crime.

Four Lions, its a British film about home grown extremism/terrorism and it is hilarious. Definately recommend you try and get hold of that if you already havn't.
That! It is a really awesome film! Also, Book of Eli didn't get the attention it deserved! Any fan of post apocalyptic worlds should give it a go! I bet you will enjoy it!

Stone, The Next Three Days and Super all hit the big screen.

Stone peaked at 125 theaters, The Next Three Days actually got a wide release at over 2,500 theaters, while Super peaked at 39. From your question, you make it seem like you want indie films that were too poor to get a theatrical release, or just any direct-to-DVD film. Or just non-blockbusers, even though one of your examples (The Next Three Days) is one.

But your examples don't make sense, as they all made it to theaters, and they all had at least two well-known actors. Stone had three, with Jovovich, De Niro, and Norton. The Next Three Days had Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson (and Elizabeth Banks/Olivia Wilde, if they count as "big names"). Super had Ellen Page and Kevin Bacon (and Liv Tyler, Nathan Fillion, etc).

So, explain the criteria better, and I'll give you some of mine, from whatever criteria you actually want. I'm just confused by what you want, that's all.
Well i live in a shithole so none of those movies were in the cinemas. Ever. I know they had well known actors but i dont class having well known actors as being a big movie. I guess i didnt take into account that other cinemas in other places may have shown these movies xD. I'll say two criteria. I'd like to know of some indie films you'd recommend, and i'd also like some examples of movies that aren't exactly indie but did go to cinemas in a hell of a lot of places (Like 25 theatres for stone isn't uch considering The Next Three Days 2,500)
Seriously can't believe something like The Next Three Days got into so many theatres and it still didn't come to ours. Thats depressing.

Scott Pilgrim VS The World- yeah, I know, but it's an awesome movie that fans of the comic should watch.

The Emperor's New Groove- laughs a-plenty in this hilarious Disney romp.

Edit: Oh yeah, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Megamind are pretty good too...

Is Adventureland underrated? It probably gets criticised because it's Kristen Stewart, but that was actually the film that made me respect her as a person.

I'd say Man on Wire is pretty underrated, and for a documentary it's pretty fantastic.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

It's a really funny kung fu spoof. Basically Steve Odekerk took a kung fu movie from the 70's and redubbed it with new dialogue and some silly CGI. It's really funny. The deleted scenes are hilarious.

I'll have to add The Enemy Below and Batman: Under the Red Hood to the list. Even among sub movies, The Enemy Below get overlooked sometimes. I've always liked how it portrays both sides' perspectives and predicaments. I root for both captains when either one pulls off a successful gambit. Under the Red Hood introduces pragmatism into Batman's normally black and white moralizing.
