Well if you are not British you probably havent heard of

1. Spaced
2. Black Books
3. Peep Show
4. Life On Mars

Life On Mars and Peep Show both have american versions however i advise you to watch the British versions as they are far better.
I'm not British, but I love Spaced and Life on Mars. Haven't heard of the other two, though. To continue the British trend, I'll say "Are You Being Served?", the '70s department store sitcom.

If you like spaced you will probably like Black Books and Peep Show similar sorta style + the Spaced actors make a few cameos in Black Books

Lately, I've begun watching a TV series called "Legend of the Seeker", and I've been enjoying it quite a bit. I would have never heard of it if my friend hadn't told me about it. This got me thinking, what other quality TV series are out there that aren't as widely known, or that are underrated? Three that come to my mind for me are:

Legend of the Seeker (1 complete season, another coming later in the year)
Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (Six episode mini-series for now, kind of like a lesser Monty Python, which is still a big compliment)
NUMB3RS (5 seasons, detective/crime solving using math)

So, any other shows come to your mind?
I'm not much for the Krod Mandoon, good, but it seems like it's trying alittle too hard for jokes. Monty Python the jokes just seem like they should be there.

OT: Not sure, uhh The Comedy Central Present, kindof just abunch of 10-5 year old 30 min performances, never heard people talk about it, so i guess it's not popular.

Hmmm I would say Dexter is a great show, may have some fame, but not a lot since it only plays on HBO and is 18+ for obvious reasons, he is a serial killer. Also over here in Canada The IT Crowd is unknown it's hilarious.

Modern Toss. Check it out on 4OD. It's just a really sweary, crudely animated cartoon sketch show. Classic characters include Mr Tourettes, the French sign writer, and Space Arguement, about two astronauts on the moon ("How the fuck did you tread dog shit on the carpet?!") I can't find the words to do it justice. If you have a bizarre, rude and childish sense of humour, you'll love it.

Couldn;t agree more this show was awesome.

I'll also add Snuffbox and darkplace to the list. Snuffbox was a weird sort of sketch show featuring Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher. It's absolutely awesome. darkplace was a parody of 1980's Bad horror programmes set in a hospital. It's absolute genius.

Oh and for thiose that missed them The day today, which was spoof news show and Brass Eye which was like a spoof panorama. Chris morris is brilliant. Linked to these also the Armando iannucci show. he was a writer on both the day today and brass eye and his own show was fantastic too.

Undeclared was pretty good.

It was a one season show created by Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin) about college freshmen hi-jinks. It was actually really good, but I think it was too 'edgy' or something for most people to be allowed to get a renewal for a second season.

Cool. I'm curious to know how you feel about Ashes to Ashes, if you've seen it. I personally don't like it as much as Life on Mars, but it's not bad.

Anyone say Freakazoid? Probably one of the best 90's cartoon shows that lasted two seasons. Damn I miss it...

Well i wasnt as keen on it to be honest the main Character was no comparison to the life on mars guy + the backingtrack was not half as good, though it was quite funny in somepoints and Gene hunt is pretty badass

plus if you ever get round to checking out Black Books or Peep Show tell me what you think
