What multiplayer games do you feel haven't recieved the recognition they deserve?

For me, it's space marine.

Sure, it only has two modes (three if you include the new horde-ish mode) and when you're on the lower levels it can feel terribly unbalanced, but once you get past the early levels and become accustomed to it, it's really quite fun. I love how it often feels like complete chaos, exactly what a fight between huge space marines should feel.

And then there's the customisation, with a load of pre set paint jobs and armour sets to play as your favourite chapters, or the ability to create your own. Getting new armour parts can be a pain, it relies on challenges and these can sometimes take an ungodly amount of time to complete, and sometimes it seems that some kinds of armour are far easier attained than others (i have ended up with a vast collection of chaos vambraces, but only a couple of helms and backpacks) but once you start to get a decent collection together, it's pretty in depth.

Well since every thread needs to have skyrim in it, I'll just say "To bad Skyrim has no multiplayer..."

The underrated multiplayer? Uhm.. The Banjo Kazooie & Banjo Tooie ones. I had fun with them as a kid with my friends and all that. But noone else for some reason.

For me, it would be Red Faction guerilla.

Any game in which i am cornered into a building and the only way to escape is use a jetpack to blow the roof off in my escape, goes very high on my list.

Edit:

This for me as well, although when I played it its MP was basically dead.

Bloodline Champions - Free to play in steam. Check it out.

Altitude - It's a lot more fun then it might look, has got really good pixel perfect controls.

Wii Sports has sold like a billion(ok maybe 70million or so)copies but it's not waht i'd call a classic multiplayer,I mean overlooked it terms of being fairly under the mainstream radar and the MP,its more fun than any multiplayer i've ever played and I felt it was really accessible online

Multiplayer? M'Aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you.

OT: It often gets lost in the storm of CoD hate, but MW2's (and by extension 3's) Spec Ops mode offers endless hours of amusement. And arguments, if your partner sucks and keeps dying all the time.

There was this game I played ages ago called Battlezone 2, and in the multiplayer there was a game mode where two teams would face each other on a large map. On each team one player would act as the commander, constructing buildings and defenses, RTS-style; and the other players on the team would be the soldiers, driving the vehicles that the base produced, as if they were playing a 1st/3rd person vehicle-shooter.

It was so bad-ass; you could choose which vehicles to create, what guns to give them; you could even leave your vehicle in a little jet-pack suit, fly into your turrets, and defend the base from attackers. Alternatively, you could do the same to enemy buildings, and take them over or sabotage them.

I've always been a fan of hybrid multiplayer; I find it provides the best, most interesting experiences. But there was never anybody online in poor little Australia, and my friends didn't like the RTS aspect of the game. I was never able to truly enjoy all the game had to offer.

Yeah I got what you were driving at, I just couldn't resist. I've never been able to understand why some people would want to turn an immersive series like TES into a multiplayer splat-fest. *shudder*

Incidentally, I was playing this great new game earlier, don't know if you've heard of it or not, it's called 'Skyrim'. I can't understand how such a game could have slipped below so many peoples' radar. Y'know, I should make a thread telling people what they're missing out on...

Oh god not a multiplayer splat-fest. Nononononono.
It's jsut that my mate can't play fer sheiz :p
Plus it would seem to be fun if you had 2 player coop. Just a random thought. I know that in Oblivion there was a mod for it for a whiel but... it got canceled I think..

I'm doing his game more or less every time I'm over.
"Oh you better do this, it got skeevers and spiders."
...
"And kill that dragon too"
... What are you? 6?
"Incidentally im 14 :V"
(okay he is not 14 and he is not that bad. But I end up doing alot x3)

Ugh, I just couldn't bear it. I've got too many bad memories of playing Gauntlet (way back), Baldur's Gate and Diablo (more recently) and being in a party where you're busy getting your ass kicked fighting all the monsters and there's one selfish b*stard in the group (usually my mate Phil) who runs around the ourskirts of the fight picking up all the loot. I know that's a case of bad players rather than bad game-mode, but those experiences have really soured me to the whole multiplayer RPG thing.

I really liked the idea behind Starfleet Command 2's multiplayer, with each faction fighting over space sectors in a persistent universe. It would have been fun if anyone had played it...
