Why does Austrailia seem more and more like a dictatorship everyday?
No, they don't rate MMOs at all, so no WoW or the like.urprobablyright said:well who cares? if they haven't been rated then they're probably too obscure to mean anything anyway - crap like dungeon runners i could do without
Why would their sales go up just because ours might go down...hebdomad said:WoW banned from Australia? *starts to party* oh hang on... completely?
Looks like New Zealand will have a massive jump in the sales of WoW then...

Yeah, because this has everything to do with communism...zen5887 said:Geez sooner or later we will be calling each other 'Comrade'\
Banning something adds a 'forbidden fruit' element. A whole underground culture forms around those things deemed illegal for our consumption. Peer pressure also is added at this point, as it suddenly becomes 'cool' and 'everyone is doing it' becomes a factor.Peach_hat said:Why would their sales go up just because ours might go down...hebdomad said:WoW banned from Australia? *starts to party* oh hang on... completely?

That's just plain untrue.Jinx_Dragon said:Banning something adds a 'forbidden fruit' element. A whole underground culture forms around those things deemed illegal for our consumption. I never knew that your mentality controlled the mentality of the teenagers around the world!Peach_hat said:That's just plain untrue.
I don't feel compelled to play Postal or Manhunt just because I'm not supposed to be allowed.
They are just going to have to go through a screening process, they aren't badass, just unclassified.
Also peer pressure just plainly doesn't apply here.
All my big tough MMORPG friends made me do it!
Funny you should mention that.. "Inspects government plan to remove all autonomy"DrummerM said:THEY CAN TAKE OUR MUMORPUGERS, BUT THEY CAN NEVER TAKE OUR FREEEEDOM!s3cur1tr0n said:You Aussies need to get a handle on your government. FREEDOM!!!
Did you just compare WoW to narcotics?Jinx_Dragon said:I never knew that your mentality controlled the mentality of the teenagers around the world!Peach_hat said:That's just plain untrue.

Ok I will stop picking on you here but what I am trying to say is just because you never felt the urge to go out and try these games, or drugs, or anything else that is illegal doesn't mean others out there will resist as well as you do. Particularly teenagers which can so easily be gloated into doing anything by their friends, as evident by the rate of drug use in young teens.
That is the forbidden fruit factor, as banning something pushes to underground where it suddenly becomes 'cool to do.'
I'm tempted to get a copy of man hunt and do an experiment. Taking it to a high school and attempting to sell this game. With just the world 'illegal' as the description for manhunt do you think I am more likely or less likely to sell it?
I won't undertake such a test, I am just not motivated enough to prove a point, but honestly do you think the fact that Manhunt is illegal would make it more or less appealing to the average teen?
Once we start telling teens they can't play computer games do you think the rate of teens playing games will really significantly decrease?
