Well they put a combined amount of thousands of man hours into a game the least you could do is respect the work they did.
And I did... with $60.
Yeah um I mean saying thanks in a way that doesn't involve monitory value.
It's like giving compliments to the chef after a good meal.
Right. So emailing the company telling them how much you enjoyed the game would be saying thanks. Watching the credits would be if the waiter came up shoved the menu in your face again and said THIS IS THE MAN WHO MADE YOU PORK CHOPS.

Sometimes it's funny to see the random crap they put in the credits. Movies are the worst. Caterer? 2nd carpenter's helper? who cares?

There are some in video games too, but I can't really remember any

Nope they don't bother me at all. IF I don't like the music playing I will walk out and do something or switch the tv to cable. What pisses me off is when they give you a huge instruction book with half of the important info missing and fill it up with the credits.

Why the hell do developers do this?!?

I just finished Far Cry 2's campaign and I was hoping to try the multiplayer but get this: you can't skip the frickin' credits! I have to sit there and read through the names of people I honestly don't care about while listening to music I don't really like. There are solutions, like turn on your own music or maybe do something else while you wait... but I figure: since they make me watch it, it can't be that long.

Oh how I'm wrong. And oh how it makes me angry. I had positive thoughts for Far Cry 2 and now I'm left pretty angry about it. Shouldn't they want gamers to walk away thinking about how they liked the game rather than angry at credits?

I would seriously like to know what goes in developer's minds when they make their credits skip-proof. Are they just so arrogant that they MUST have people read their name and function?

Personally, I think this kind of thing is unacceptable... what do you think?
i just want to add to your post. Some thing i truly hate is credits that you cant skip but must wait till they are over to save the game completion file. So if you don't sit there and watch them you need to restart from your last save
Like the original Fable... ¬¬

I personally think that patience is a virtue.

These people worked INCREDIBLY hard on their game. If they feel that their names need to be put out there when the game is beaten, then it's well within their right to do so. Go get something to drink or a snack or something if you really don't want to sit through it. And if you can't stand waiting 5 or 6 minutes without playing a video game, then you have a problem.

Sorry if I'm seeming rude here, but seriously. It's not a long time to wait.
You're absolutely right. These people put in incredibly long hours and work their butts off at a difficult job. They deserve to have their names out there. Even if a lot of gamers might not stick around to watch them, they have every right to put them there for people who do. Making them unskippable is fine, as they usually only take a few minutes. They deserve recognition for their work. And don't think for a second that if you worked on something for that long that you wouldn't also like some credit for it.

If you're saying they should allow you to skip the credits, I completely disagree. Those people worked hard for years to bring you a game that you enjoyed enough to finish, they deserve to have their moment in the sun. Now, making them more enjoyable to watch, that seems to make sense because, as you've pointed out, if it's just a dull crawl of names, you're going to either turn off the game or bugger off and make a sammich or something.

Perhaps they should take the Pixar approach and throw in some bloopers. :)

Sometimes I like credits. I think it was Spider-Man 2 on the PS1, the credits were displayed on a wall that Spidey was crawling up and he made funny comments about the names and people as he passed them.
Hey, I remember that! Wasn't the game Enter Electro, or something?

Generally, I get annoyed at unskippable credits. If there's something to amuse me, then I'm all for them, like:

Kingdom Hearts II - There's a montage of what happens in all the worlds after you finish and restore peace, which was quite nice.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition - I'm not sure if this was in the basic game, and the credits weren't strictly speaking unskippable, but you fought a massive horde of enemies from the game as the credits went up, alongside Lady, and if you kiiled over 100 enemies you got an extra special ending.

Credits should not be skippable. In fact, people should be forced to actually read them. The people in those credits took the time to create a game that you obviously liked enough to finish, so you should take the time to find out who made that game possible.

Why? How many TV programs do you read the credits of? How many books do you look in the inside cover and note the publishers and assistants, the printers and cover designers? How many CDs do you own of which you've read the credits to find out the sound engineers or third violin in track 3? Credits are there to acknowledge the makers of those things by the games company and to anyone who is interested. It is not a compulsory part of the media and I shouldn't have to pay money for the game to have that choice forced upon me.

I'm reminded of a certain scene from A Clockwork Orange, and what that ended up doing to the subject...

Is it really that bad? You can't just read a book till it's done or surf the net? You can't go make something to eat or change the channel and watch TV? You cant find ANYTHING else to do while the credits roll? Because if you can't you're a fucking retard.

BTW, those people who made the game you played (and ejoyed) worked damned hard on it, so I don't think it's too much to ask to give them the spotlight for 5 minutes of your life.

I do read the credits of Television shows and in the few CD's I buy. AS for books, you got me there. I usually only know who wrote it and what company published it.

Personally, I like to see everything a game has to offer. Just like when I first buy a game, I'll sit through the title screen loop to see what it has to offer, and I run around exploring EVERYWHERE in a free-roam world to see what it has to offer, I'll sit though the credits to see what they have to offer. If the credits are visually unappealing, the music is usually okay and I'll do something else while watching the credits (I always have my computer on).

I'm generally patient (everywhere in life) because good things usually come to those who wait (or rather, don't rush it). I think that's best summed up in The Getaway's thing where in order to heal you have to wait against a wall - you wait, you heal, it's good (though I really hate Yasmin yelling my ear off over it).

People are really becoming more and more impatient these days. There's nothing wrong with a credit roll at the end of the game.
In fact, this thread makes me wish they'd put them in the beginning of the game like they used to do more often with older movies. So you'd have to watch them BEFORE you start playing the game.

Nobody is forcing you to watch the credits. There are buttons on your television, there's probably a computer with a working internet connection (otherwise this thread wouldn't have existed) in the room, maybe you have some books laying around the room. If you don't like the credits, go do something else?

What's next? People making threads complaining you shouldn't spend such a long time on downloading extra content because you're paying good money for it?

you give credit when credit is do and with the amount of time it takes to make a game why not give these people the time they deserve.
