A small rabbit sprinted across a clearing, a look of fear on it's face. It looked about hurriedly, and it's eyes settled on a hole dug into the side of a snowdrift. Without hesitating it ran as fast as it could towards it. Suddenly, A large grey wolf burst from inside the snowdrift and growled. The rabbit tried to stop, but it's momentum carried it ahead. It stopped right in front of the wolf, and simply sat there, staring at it. The wolf didn't do anything but look at the rabbit, which looked back. "Well played, human." The rabbit said. The rabbit waited for a response, but didn't get one. It cocked it's head to the side. The wolf shook its head. "I see." The rabbit said. "Well, shall we conduct the conversation in our natural forms?" It asked. The rabbit sat still for a moment, then turned into an elf woman with long black hair and dark brown skin. The wolf nodded, and then it was Across, who took a seat on a withered tree stump. She sat down beside him.
The woman sighed, disappointed. "I had hoped you would be handsome. You look so much better as a wolf." She said, looking him up and down. "The same could be said for yourself." he responded. "You don't use this form often, do you?" She winced. "Ouch. But seriously, what are you doing here? Last time I saw you, you were Juliana's pet apprentice. What ever happened to her, anyways?" Across looked down. "She is with the gods now." he said quietly. "Ah" The two sat there awkwardly for a moment, then Across spoke up. "I come for information. My companions and I seek a holy relic. An informant told us it was on this mountain, but obviously it isn't."
The woman closed her eyes, searching through her memories. Across waited patiently. Eventually, she opened her eyes and shook her head. "I'm sorry. I know many stories about such relics, but none that would help find one." Across sighed. "I understand." He said. He stood up and prepared to leave. "Wait." She said. He turned around expectantly. "Your friends, they wait in Esterton?" She asked. He nodded. She thought for a moment. "If you meet an elf named Cabara, mention my name. He will give you whatever equipment you need." He smiled. "Thank you." She shook her head. "I want your trip to this mountain to be at least slightly worth it. You should learn to talk in your wolf form, by the way. Your human form leaves a lot to be desired."
"I'll be sure to remember that."
