"They want the relic, which we do not have in our possesion. Not only that, but we killed one of their buddy freaks over here. You really think they will NEGOTIATE now?" Thombur laughed awkwardly.

"There is no way they will negotiate with us if we killed their freind AND don't have what they want. Killing is the only option the way I see it." The dwarf readied his axe. "So, we goin'?"

Across cried out in pain. His arms shook with the effort of keeping Emerson stable. "If we don't get the antidote soon, the aura will collapse. Just go!" He shouted. He was breathing shallowly and quickly. The aura had faded to a thick dull red. Emerson was barely visible through it.

As the aura weakened, Emerson's heart slowly started beating. The inexperienced healer would think this was a good thing. It was not. The spell Across was using stopped all functions in the body, but kept the target alive. This way, the poison couldn't reach the brain, and Emerson could be kept alive until an antidote was acquired. However, the spell was difficult to keep up, and the poison seemed to be resisting the effects. Remarkable, Across thought. The poison actually attacks the mana field. I've never seen anything like this.

"That doesn't look good.... lets go!" Thombur pointed at the town gate and began sprinting towards it. "These bastards are going to pay for what they did!"

Rowan paused a moment to take out a vial from a small pouch around his belt, he opened it and collected a sample of the poison from the blade, which he concealed beneath his cloak.

"fine, let's see how much they like their own methods" he said, checking the vial was secure, it wouldn't do to lose something like that, finally he removed his sword from the corpse and sheathed it before sprinting after Thombur. "you know, if the antidote gets damaged in the fight, then don't say i didn't warn you."

I'm going to give you guys free reign to tackle this bit however you want. I'll push it along with some talking from the Elves if you want it.

"ok fair enough. With blood magic I could probably cut off blood flow around the lungs, it'll knock them unconscious before killing them. Then we could get any antidote, if it exists, but it's a difficult spell and I won't be able to us it to everyone all at once..."

He called out to the group of war-hungry companions.

"Or, you know. We could try something that doesn't involve flattening half a town."

He shook his head, hating to be the voice of reason. It wasn't his voice.

"They think we have the relic, so what if we 'agree' to this meeting, have a straight trade wherein they present the antidote and we present our relic, and then go nuts on them. We have mages, after all."

He looked at Rowan.

"And I'm sure you have a piece of metal or two that you've got hidden."

The simple minded dwarf was rather upset with the idea of using strategy. "As long as I get to bash their skulls in....I guess thats fine. Not what I would prefer, but I will not argue. Well! I suppose we should be off to slaughter the freaks then."

Thombur glanced at Emerson. "Across is staying here to watch over him, but we don't have much time. Off we go then!" He continued his way towards the city gates with the rest of his companions.

Adandra stood alongside Across, leaning on his halberd as if it were a crutch.

"Tell me, human, what exactly are you doing with Emerson?" The Elf asked, his eyes focusing on the man's body.

Not waiting for an answer, he turned towards the others, and said: "I'll stay with the healer and the corpse, I'm in no mood to run around today." Of course, by the time he said this, most of them were already sprinting off into the distance. It was unlikely anyone heard him.

Across glanced up, then returned his attention to Emerson."I'm keeping him in what's called a stasis aura." he said. "It stops all his bodily functions while keeping him alive." Across was feeling considerably less pain, which was also a bad sign; it meant the aura was collapsing. "Unfortunately," He continued, "This poison has been cursed with a demonic essence that attacks mana. Healing magic is almost useless." He cursed. The aura around Emerson was fading away. His body was returning to normal, which meant the poison was being carried to his brain. "Which is why if I can't get the antidote soon, we'll have one less member of our party."

"I see." Adandra mumbled, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't suppose you need a hand, eh? I mean, I do know blood magic, I'm rather certain I could just stop the flow all together. Of course, that would technically kill him, but you can bring him back if that happens, right?"

Thombur sprinted as fast as his stubby dwarven legs could take him. (Which was not very fast, as he watched his companions overpass him) As he passed the gate, he noticed an old shack on top of a nearby hill. There was a torch lit behind the shack, and shadows of people were visible behind it.

"Looks like we found our place, so whats the next step? Should we just approach them casually?" The dwarf readied his axe once again, looking to his allies for advice.

Across blinked. He wasn't sure if Adandra was joking or not. "Eh, thanks, but I think I'll pass on that. 'bringing people back from the dead' isn't exactly in my skill range." He returned his attention to Emerson. Hm.... Blood magic. That might actually help. "Do you think you could slow his blood flow, without killing him? That could buy us some time."

"Without killing him?" Adandra snickered to himself, a small grin growing on his face. "That ruins all the fun, doesn't it?"

He chuckled loudly, dementedly cackling for all around him to hear, if only for the pure joy of unnerving his comrade with such a statement.

"But, yes, I can slow it down. Hell, I could put him in a damn comma if I felt like it. Now the real question is, what's in for me if I decide to do so?"

Sweet, I'm getting my evilness working again!

Across's mouth dropped open. He would have argued, but time was running out. Emerson, you owe me. He glared up at Adandra, a look of disgust on his face. "I was going to tell everyone in the group about this, but if you help me I won't." He pulled a scrap of paper out of his cloak, and handed it to Adandra.

"In this town, there lives a merchant by the name of Cabara. Show him this paper, and he'll allow you any of his wares for free."

He looked away and spat. "May the gods have mercy on your soul."

"Y'know, that's the seventh time someone's told me that." Adandra said, his voice heavy with sarcasm. In a swift motion, he yanked the parchment from Across's hand and slipped it underneath his armor, tucking it safely against the furs that he had stolen previously. He then turned towards Emerson still body and leaned beside it, kneeling and placing a hand on the man's chest, which gave off a sinfully red glow as he started tampering with the man's blood, slowing it to a snails pace.

"Luckily for you, Emmy, I'm a man of my word the majority of the time, so you're in good hands for now." He cracked a smile towards Across, grinning like a mad man. "I suppose we just wait for now, eh?"

"We wait, and pray the others get the antidote in time." Across replied. He placed a hand on Emerson's neck, and sighed with relief. His pulse was indeed going much slower. This would buy them some time. He sat back against a wall, and closed his eyes. He was incredibly drained from maintaining the aura, and was having a much needed rest.

"finally someone who knows what he's doing" thought Rowan, they had reached the gate and he took his shield from his back, he'd need to be ready for a fight at any time, his cloak covered almost all of his armour so he suspected they wouldn't know what to expect from him, he had that advantage at least.

"what are we going to pass of as a relic anyway? despite the very likely possibility that this is a trap it won't do us good if we can't get the antidote, so we need something to give them or at least show them."

Tipo gave the four extremely bored, elvish watchmen by the gate a friendly tip of the hat, without wearing an actual hat as they passed it. Outside there were nearly no people, save the occasional passing wayward traveler.

"Any shiny bauble will do, just as long as it's filled with magical energy."

He picked up a rock large enough to fit in the palm of his hand and made it shine with a soft, green light.

"Maybe we can make it explode when held by an Elf...."

"Sounds good to me. How could we get it to explode though?" The dwarf looked at the rock cluelessly, wondering if the elves would actually fall for such a simple trick.

"And are you sure those freaks are actually dumb enough to believe this is the relic?"
