Doom, Street Fighter and Mario brothers, those films were the best thing made! i simply cannot wait until these films come out.
Totally. And also how could I have forgotten Tomb Raider? Another classic. I still don't know why people prefer the Shawshank Redemption to it.
Meh, Tomb Raider was actually quite passable. Nothing I would actually buy, but I rented it and didn't consider it a total waste. At least I got to see Jolie's side boob.

I have a feeling that while Gears can work well for an over-the-top action flick, Bioshock can be a bit more intriguing in the sense of how the director interprets the source material. It would be like trying to do a film adaptation of a graphic novel written by Alan Moore; The direcctor could be a bit strayed from the source material (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) or can truly bring a graphic novel to life (Watchmen).

You can see her complete boob along with its twin in Gia. The movie is shit though. She just doesn't do it for me...

You know who could actually do a good job with Bioshock? Jean Pierre Jeunet. He can do moody, thoughful and scary all togther, plus a wonderfully dark sense of humour to boot.

That might be a good director, but you want to know which director i could take chances with? Zack Snyder. Sure, the dawn of the dead remake was quite the snooze and 300 was rather pretentious, but after seeing the utmostly spectacular Watchmen, i think this guy has a knack for directing adaptations. If he is able to make "The graphic novel never meant for film" into a movie, i bet he could do bioshock.

It all depends on how much money they care about and/or fans they know about.

That said, they can either be decent or gut-wrenchingly bad.

I think he'd be better for Gears. He's a very visual director, story is not his strong point. Bioshock is all about the story and needs someone who can coax emotion and immersion from thier audience!

I'm not sure what to expect from Gears...it feels like it could be of same quality as say Doom or Hitman (or Max Payne or...need I go on?) and still be pretty kickass

I mean, you can't complain about bad dialogue and bad dialogue delivery because it was cavemanistic in the game itself...and as long as there's plenty of chainsawing lol

They should both be great. I mean, BioShock is a good template to work with and Gears of War is just blood and guts so there's nothing really to worry about.
easier said than done.

resident evil, final fantasy, silent hill, max payne and every other video game movie always gets the comic-book-movie onceover: added unnecessary corny/retarded scenes, complete rewriting of characters and basic plot for no reason other than creative masturbation, and bad, bad acting.

i'll pass.

Hollywood's gonna screw these movies up more then George Lucas does the Star Wars franchise. Whether its miscasting characters, dubbing down the violence, bad scripts, etc. And of course there's always the chance Uwe Boll grabs the rights. You can't trust Hollywood with anything because all they care about is making a quick buck and they don't care how much they butcher the product and piss off the main fanbase just so long as they fill their pockets.

Don't think all comic-book adaptations are like that. For Example: Watchmen. hand over fist. period.

You see, what needs to happen is this.

The people who wrote the story, who conceived the idea in the first place to do the script for the movie. As opposed to some writer looking for his next pay cheque.
Yeah, that worked really well for Wing Commander.

Gears would make a really cool war movie if it were set before gears 1 if the rumors are true. Seeing E-day happen and all the events between E-day and GoW 1 happen could make a good movie. Although like all video game movies...I have no hope and never will being a jaded gamer that has suffered at the hands of so many bad movies.

Bioshock I have hopes for, but Gears.....
They have greater chances of ducking up Bioshock than they would with Gears. Gears is simple and has a formula for success. Bioshock has a following that will most likely not be satisfied with anything they pull because living up to those standards seems to be too much for movie developers.

I am saddened that Bioshock is becoming a movie, and even though I will see it, I don't think it will be as great an experience as playing the game was (though it does have potential to be really good as a movie).

I'm completely psyched for the BioShock movie (I follow its progress through the imdb.). They better not screw it up, and Wentworth Miller better not play Jack!
