Given that Doom, Street Fighter and Mario brothers were classic works of cinematic genius, is anyone else as excited as me about two more of our favorite games getting the Hollywood treatment?
Good god I hope that was sarcasm. ...
oh no, he was quite serious. the script for mario bros, for example, was so well-written and thought out that i can't even type that with a straight face!!! anyways ...

... But about Gears and Bio, it all depends on the director man, if they can find a solid director everything else will fall into place. I mean look at Watchmen, Snyder is a great director and even though the cast was mostly unknown it is an amazing movie.
good direction certainly helps, but by that logic the last 2 matrix movies should be cinematic gold, but they aren't. there's only so much that good direction can do with a shitty script

i haven't seen the watchmen movie yet, i want to. minus having to edit 3 hours out of the story and still being a 3-hour long movie, many people tell me it follows the original story to the letter: no added writer's wank to the script leaving it in a sticky mess like they did with spiderman (and i like sam raimi). but they can never seem to get it right; it's like there's a mandatory "shoehorned shittiness" quota they have to put in every movie that wasn't their idea to begin with

i have never once seen a film of a game that didnt either leave me disgusted that a game franchise has been ruined for me [namely resident evil, it went downhill around 4 but oh well] , or just embarrased to say id watched it..
Games and films should stay as far the fuck away from each other as physically possible; hopefully with the use of brick walls and armed guards. Games can be as cinematic as they like [MGS4] but when they start to make actual films of them.......just...............oh dear.
the only game film i can ever see working is a halo film in which arnie s plays the chief. and even then it'd only be good for the comedy value............

Bioshock is a much easier movie to make, seeing as you have underwater city as the setting, while Gears of War is going to rape its own budget if they shoot it where it needs to be shot, which is Siberia.
they'll probably just shoot it in the arizona badlands: it's cheaper, and most americans won't tell the difference anyway.

EDIT: btw, how would shooting bioshock be cheaper? i can see them blowing their whole budget animating this massive cgi-underwater world, compared to ... sandbags and chest-high walls? ok, they'll need a couple fancy buildings and caves for the set, not to mention the monsters ... ehn, maybe they'd be about even, but bioshock is still riding a fine line

all movie games are shit, its just good to know it works both ways.

the only hope i have got for these movies is an excuse for the justifiable murder of everyone involved.

ps im not a psychotic, just a game and movie lover
or thats my excuse and i am sticking to it

Haha I will take the blame off your shoulders for that one...

Nah I was being sarcastic about Doom etc..., all those films (especially Tomb Raider) were giant reeking cinematic turds shat from the fat ass of Hollywood.
LOL ok, just seeing those names and the words 'cinematic genius' in the same sentence made such an audible 'CLANG' that I missed the sarcasm!

Ok so I wrote the script to a Gears movie:
Marcus "GRUNT, DOM, COVER, GRUNT!"
Dom "MARIA, GRUNT, SOBSOBSOBSOBSOB"
Marcus "GRUBHOLE< GRUNT< GRUNT< AMMO!"
Cole "HERE COMES THE STEREOTYPICAL CATCH PHRASE BABY!"
Baird "WHINE WHINE ***** WHINE WHINE"

Don't tell me I'm wrong.

I'm giving the Gears movie a chance. The games have great story-telling, and are very cinematic, so I think the franchise would lend itself well to a silver-screen adaptation. Not sure about Bioshock, but I never played all the way through the game.

I'd think it would be harder to make a strong movie out of an FPS (example: Doom). Over-the-shoulder games have done better when not helmed by Hërr Boll (ex: Resident Evil, Tomb Raider). And yeah, Tomb Raider wasn't great, but it at least did decently in the box office, as it followed a solid marketing strategy: "Indiana Jones with a great ass and tits" Games and non-gamers alike were at least willing to give it a chance the first time around.

As always with game->movie adaptations, I've got low expectations, but I'm at least willing to give these a chance. With low expectations, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, and I was going to mention that even Tomb Raider did decently in the box office, simply because they followed a fairly sound strategy: "Indiana Jones with a great ass and tits". Boom, guys were suddenly willing to at least give it a chance and see it once, if only for Jolie.

I swear the doom movie was an absolute shocker, so it's a shame that they try and cross entertainment genre's.

I think he'd be better for Gears. He's a very visual director, story is not his strong point. Bioshock is all about the story and needs someone who can coax emotion and immersion from thier audience!
lets just hope they don't sign on...*shivers*
Uwe Boll.[/quote]
They won't. He is almost completely shunned out of Hollywood.

If they made GoW into a movie it would probably be the worst movie in the history of mankind, if not, just a gory splatter film. That might work in a game and still be a lot of fun, but a movie? I don't think so.

Bioshock might have a better chance since there are cool surroundings and it actually has a story other than 'kil aleins nao!!!1'. It would do great as maybe a horror movie or something like that. But god forbid they name it 'Bioshock' (atleast not as head-title), since that is a retarded name for a movie

have you played Gears of War? all the acts outside of cities are in pine forests growing on mountains, arizona, canada, alaska, southern american countries dont look like Sera, only siberia. you honestly only need a deep pool and a wave machine to get an accurate representation of rapture

I honestly thought that Tomb Raider was a movie first, I guess they did it well enough.
