This is a sort of death knell for the PS3 in my view... A CEO of a major publisher making a statement like that is unprecedented in the industry, and should be a wake up call to Sony.
As people have said already, the 360 elite is the same price as the PS3. That's without a wireless adapter. If you get a standard with a wireless adapter, it's the same price as a PS3.

I don't know what Sony should wake up and do...lose money?
well that's in the US in UK 360 is alot cheaper with better bundles but Europe always gets rip off.

If it takes them losing a little money in the short term to expand their install base, yeah, that might be in order. M$ lost money for years on the original Xbox, and that business model worked for them in the end...

This is also Activision, the same company that said Brutal Legend was unprofitable and dropped it. their opinion sorta loses it's oomph when you consider that. Not to mention besides Guitar Hero (And I guess CoD) What games do they even make. I mean I know the blizzard side but it's not like Activision are a First-Party. Now if it was Guerrila Games or Naughty Dog or Insomniac I would be worried. but so long as Konami and Namco and other Devs are fine with it (I.E. the devs whos games I actually own/care about) I'm fine.

Maybe thats just me ya know I'm not into CoD or Modern Warfare or Guitar Hero
I never said that Activision was a good publisher, just a major one... While I don't care for a lot of their business practices, you can't ignore the fact that they're the biggest publisher in the industry at this time.

One of my friends from work was just talking about this. He picked up an Xbox 360 and went walking toward the counter to check out, then he thought to read the box. When he said he found out that there was no wireless adapter, and that it would cost him an extra ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, he was stunned.

Needless to say, he didn't buy it. He's now considering PS3.
So that means that any 360 besides the Arcade, plus the Wi-Fi adapter is just as expensive as a PS3 (I didn't know the Wi-Fi thing was $100, I was thinking it would be $20 since Wi-Fi routers aren't much more than that). After paying for Live, you have passed the PS3 in price.
I am farily certain most 360 owners get the Wi-Fi adapter because running and ethernet cord from your router/modem is not always practical and usually invovles holes in the floor and a lot of cable (if you can't do it yourself, installation costs are gonna be insane).

The price difference is now officialy nil. Thank you.
It inst in the UK 360 elite is £229.99 and the wireless adapter is £44.99 a ps3 is 299.99 buy itself.
How much is the regular 360? That's what we were using for our comparison before. Is the regular 360 + wireless adapter more than the PS3 too? Because then constant callouts for the PS3 to cut their price would be ridiculous (though I feel they already are because the Elite is the console the 360 should've been, without the RROD and stuff).
regular £189.99 so added the wireless adapter and only comes too 234.98 ps3 is £299.99 bit of a difference.
I'm not talking about the arcade model, I'm talking about the standard. The arcade model shouldn't even be a system.

Onmi said:
Well this depends, do you consider the cheapest 360 (The arcade version) to be the comparison or the standard model? because most people compare he normal PS3 to the Arcade 360 when I feel it should be standard for both. the Elite being the latest in the 360 line up also has me point that IT should be the deciding one because... well when we look at the PS2 do we look at the slim or fat? the Slim one cause it's the latest.
See above.
The premium is 169.99 sorry new price drop.
I know it's a tasteless joke but I do like to say that if the 360 keeps dropping it's price i'll be able to get them out of a dispenser soon enough.
haha yer an arcade with two controllers and two games is £99.99.

While Kotick does have a good point, this is a little too far. If Activision did stop releasing games for Sony, it could be a critical hit with no Guitar Hero, or Call of Duty. I don't believe that they have the balls to go through with it though, the fanboys will go even more batshit insane over it than FF13 coming to 360.
And the metal gear 360 release.
Yeah its not like it's coming out on the PC and PS3 also. OH WAIT!! I mean seriously can you even name any 360 exclusives that this years E3? I don't see any 360 games in the future that I'm looking forward to cause their only 2 exclusives are some recycled halo games. Yeah and sonys the one in trouble.
Oh noes 1 person doesn't like MS's lineup. I bet you got them shaking in their boots right now. Also who cares if it is on the PC and the 360? Call it exclusive or don't. Whatever you call it the bottom line is Sony doesn't get them. And if these great games are on the PC as well great for the devs, great for PC gamers, sucks for Sony.
I don't care I thought people were bothered obviously I was wrong.
I am bothered. At the same time I can't feel sorry for Sony. I want Sony to do well. I want them to make me want to buy their console. Maybe this will finally be the wake up call for them to pull thier heads out of thier asses and listen to the market. It just seems to me Sony has been trying to ride the PS2 success and figure that as long as SONY is in the name it is guaranteed to sell.

I suppose it doesn't help that the net is filled with Sony fanboys who just stroke said egos. Ask them they will tell you Sony can do no wrong.
Fair enough I just wanted a reasonable discussion on this because the business aspects and the tech aspects are to my interest and knowledge.
I just don't think the whole "MS doesn't make exclusive games, they are on the PC as well" is

A) matters in the slightest. If you are a PC gamer yay, if you are a 360 owner and hate playing PC games (like me) yay

B) that it seems we get to hooked up on the word. Someone needs a better word to describe it maybe. Can't use multiplatform since then people will think it is going to Sony.

C) that it is a bad thing to begin with. Although the Sony fanboys tend to think it is. Guess they really can't stand that a 3rd party developer can make even more money by putting it on the PC as well. And easily.

I remember a long time ago hearing about how analysts predicted the Xbox 360 would be a distant third about now. My, my look how the tables have turned. Sony's getting more and more desperate by the minute and they don't seem to be doing anything about it. They need a price cut. Now.

Ummm Sony is getting the MGS at the same time the 360 is. So whats your argument or point?
I don't care about MGS. Never have and never will. Your quote just happened to be attatched to his and every time I try and edit the quotes they get mangled.

And on PC, but to be fair, it's shaping up to be a very very different metal gear, I'm personally dreading it being a hack + slash.

I guess, I mean honestly? besides the fact they were associated with blizzard and dropped Brutal Legend I had NO IDEA who these guys were. so maybe thats just my ignorance in the buisness. If you mean size wise than definitly.
Apart from Call of Duty and Guitar Hero, Activision/Blizzard is also responsible for the Wolfenstein, Tony Hawk, Starcraft & Diablo franchises.

Is Activision bluffing? Can Sony afford to call that bluff...?

Well yes due the fact ps3 hard make reasonable profit margin as third party let alone make a project on the ps3. Also the Sony cant really afford to loose much money there getting a bit tight with there mounting debt issue.

So? He's doing the console a favor. With the sole exception of Call of Duty, what games with Activision's name does anyone really give a shit about?

Point made.

Perhaps, but I think the majority of people would have prefered a new Z.O.E game than a Raiden game. You could feel the disappointment in that room when Hideo revealed that it was Raiden as the main character at E3.

I'm hard pressed to find anything bad if Activision were to leave. The "bar" for the average quality of games on the PS3 will go up. It'd be nice going into a store and not seeing 40 Guitar Hero/Call of Duty variations on the shelf for the PS3.
