Activision is bigger than EA. Now if EA pulled out of the market of a given console, people would care (mostly because of Madden and NFS). I don't think anyone realizes that if Activision pulls out of PS3 development, it WILL be a pretty big impact. What people don't see is that Activision is a huge publisher, so even though they may not have something you want now, they can easily pick up a new IP that will make you wet your pants, and that is what Sony does not want.

What Activision is doing is a pretty dick move imo, but it is necessary. I do want a PS3, but it's very hard to justify buying one so that I can play Resistance (generic FPS), MGS4 (interactive movie), LBP (mostly for the wife so that she can never play it), and Drakes Fortune (no remarks here, probably the only one I'm truly interested in). All the rest I can get on 360. And most games (if not equal looking) look better on the 360 than they do on the PS3 anyway (Ghostbusters, Fallout 3, GTA IV, Assassins Creed)

EDIT:
So you can't *****, here are my sources on the "better looking games"

I can't say I'm surprised by this, really. Given the enormous quantity of horrible business decisions that created the PS3, and Sony's insistence that said decisions are working, contrary to all evidence, I'm surprised they waited this long to drop the thing.

I find this interesting, I guess it would make sense to do it but it would probably make activision the reson the PS3 dies.

Lulz, where's the "we purposely made the PS3 hard to develop for" argument now? But still, I really think that Activison is just bluffing, or throwing a hissy fit because there wasn't a price cut announced at E3 like they wanted.

I'm hard pressed to find anything bad if Activision were to leave. The "bar" for the average quality of games on the PS3 will go up. It'd be nice going into a store and not seeing 40 Guitar Hero/Call of Duty variations on the shelf for the PS3.
Yes, because less choice and competition is always a good thing.. oh wait.
EDIT: Haha OWNED.

I don't see anything competative coming out of Activision anymore.

Sony is doing terrible as a company, so it's a logical move. First off, in these financial times there is no point to buying Blu Ray over standard DVD. Then the PS3 gets very few exclusives in the first real year of sales, sending the PS3 to an early bottom of the console race. Back on the PSP's side of things, no one bought it for a music/video player, and it didn't get any exclusives that weren't ports of PS2 games for a while. Point is, it didn't catch on. And now the PSP Go!, possibly the worst idea ever. Sony is going down the drain.

You know, even if Sony did drop the price of the PS3, people would still ***** and moan for it to go down. The price went down, like, 3 times in one year for the PS3 even if it did come at a cost of a feature or two.

Really, if they dropped the price by $50 people would want $50 more off. Drop it $100? Great, drop it by another $50 to $250 so you can compete with the Wii! How about make it cost $200? Great, now makes some gaems for it!@$@!%

A price cut is inevitable some time, and I highly doubt that Activision would ever truely pull support for the PS3/PSP as anyone who actually payed a hint of attention to their E3 conference would know that it's hardly time to count Sony out.

Why? Why are you all still whining about the price tag? Please, grow up! Now Activision is saying it too? I'm sickened by this. It's a proper price tag for a proper console. Okay? If you can't afford it, then you can't afford any console. How do people keep forgetting that the PS3 is infact the CHEAPEST alternative? No, people ignore that and are such braindead fanboy zombies that refuse to look at the evidence. And then we get the "zomg blu ray is worthless they should remove it blah blah blah". Without blu ray, the PS3 is just another XBOX 360, minus the horrible failure rates and crappy support from Microsoft.

Oh, and guess what? If the Ps3 were to drop out of the console wars, then Microsoft can jack up their prices all they want. You'd no longer have a choice. So all you people wanting Sony to "rot and die" should really rethink the stupidity spewing forth from your idiot holes.

Besides, Activision is being pretty retarded about the PS3 failing. It's not failing, it's just behind. 23 million units isn't too bad a sales figure. (don't give me BS about it being 21 million. I'm not trusting such a low number from a site that doesn't keep updated.) Also, the PSP isn't doing bad either. 50 million sold. Considering all of Nintendo's other competitors, they've done the best, but you driveling fools are too biased against Sony to actually admit they're not doing too bad.

I really don't know why people also like to forget the last console wars. Did the Gamecube "fail"? What about the XBOX? No, they didn't. Even the Dreamcast didn't fail. It just sold less. If it did fail, then there would be no Dreamcast fans at all today. Now, the Atari 5200 failed. Not one person on Earth liked that console. So why is the Ps3 failing this generation? Answer? It isn't. It's just the delusion of some jerk in his basement.

I think Sony is the only one this generation that's actually making the smart decisions. So if you want to play, then you better pay.

So next time, please don't flame. I'm honestly getting sick of it.

This is what I'm talking about. You people whine all the time.

All the games you listed, look better and perform better on my PC. Why would I need a 360? Think it's hard justifying the price of a PS3? How about the $2300 I put into my gaming rig?

Everyone loves the PC, despite it's huge price tag for top quality games. What's with the bias here, people? When did it okay to hate something for being pricey then love something else despite it being pricy? YEesh.

As yahtzee would put it:

"Fans are Clingy, complaining dips**ts that are never happy with the concessions you make."

I don't want to seem offensive with this, but really. I'm sorry guys, but one can only listen to people whine about something for so long before it gets REALLLY old.

i call bullshit. although, yes it is more expensive to develop for the ps3 than 360 or wii, i would bet my bottom that activision are still making profits from ps3 ports of games such as cod. there is no logical reason for them to stop developing other than to scare sony into dropping the price.

You misunderstand, I have a PS3. I bought it for the games that Sony developers make. I have an expensive gaming rig, I built that for all the rest.

Morne
Oh no, I wasn't attacking you or anything. I just quoted you to point out something that I found odd considering people's hate of price tags, because what I quoted from you really made sense. I didn't intend any of my post towards you.

Hope I didn't offend or anything. My bad.

Beat by 22 minutes.
Excuse me when I say, who cares? 22 minutes isn't the end of the world, and this article has more content.

On-topic, I wonder if this is a bluff on the part of Activision? I can understand that Sony's (continued) bad marketing decisions are affecting sales, but will they really abandon one of the Big 3?

As for Sony, smarten up. Their console is not worth the money, so they should actually make it the case. I understand they want money, but where are their sales?

Then, Sony actually did respond, but it was much less interesting than Pachter had predicted: "We respect our third-parties' opinions and their right to express those opinions but we will not be commenting on this story."
Thats the sign bobby, drop them now and make me happy, and isn't that what we all strive for?
