*Update*
The 'box came back last night from repairs - it's now twice as loud and sounds like an Apple II E booting up a floppy disk when it has to think, but at least it works. . .? Worth a hundred bucks? Nope. Instructions on how you can help fight the powers at microsoft can be found in this post here:

Two nights ago i sat down to play Fallout 3 and my box up and died. I was cracking a safe and the screen went all red and white - a security feature i hadn't encountered before? Nope. The game froze and, upon rebooting, there was the infamous E74 error.
Now i have to fork over 100 bucks and change, plus cover shipping costs, plus lose the box for a couple of weeks while it gets repaired, because i was just over a month out of warranty (internet research shows that this error most frequently occurs in the first few weeks after warranty expiration). Microsoft CLEARLY knows about this issue - on my third call to customer service, i asked the guy how often they get calls about the E74.
"A lot," he answered. "I don't know why they don't cover that under the three year deal."
Should Microsoft be expected to pick up the costs for this themselves, as they are well aware of the faulty hardware issue but have (A) done nothing to correct it and (B) expect a ridiculous amount of money for something that takes a knowledgeable techie 2 hours to fix? How many of you have suffered the indignity of the E74? Anybody want to storm the gates of the Microsoft head office and demand our money back? Or will Gates' evil minions destroy me before i can even post this?
