Valve really knows how to please its fans, don't they?
>implying Valve fans bother with Valve games beyond the PC

STEAM is the only platform where one should obtain Valve titles anyway, now if you'll excuse me I have to go enjoy YET ANOTHER Free Content update for Team Fortress 2, later on maybe I'll have fun in the new TAAAAAAAAANK! mutation mod on the new FREE L4D2 DLC and I'll enjoy some Alien Swarm and Portal... two games I also got from Steam... for Free.

Yeah I hear you need friends for L4D to be awesome. Or put up with the verbal diarrhea on Xbox live. So since my friends have already long moved on to other games, I will likely never own L4D regardless of price point. That is in opposition to the fact one could call me a Valve fan boy. I am conflicted.

A little more OT: does anyone know how much the rake on Xbox Live Microsoft takes and what Valve gets?
thats another reason is better on pc, Ive only rarely met asshats on the pc, hell more then a bit of my steam friends list is made up of ppl Ive met on l4d or l4d2
Oh yeah gotta love Steam's server system, it makes it so easy to actually play against people that fit your play-style.

I got it on the sale but for some reason it wont load at start-up, just freezes as it lists the developer.

I might have my issues with Valve but this is just great stuff right there.

So, yeah. Microsoft clearly needs to learn something from these guys.
Like what? That they should start giving stuff away for free instead? Won't hold my breath.

I can't think of a single free game on Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii. In fact PC as a platform there are hundreds of really high quality free games every year especially if you include games that are free-to-start with micro-transactions to level up like Battlefield Heroes. Oh yeah and all those browser based games.
*cough* Aegis Wing for XBLA *cough*

Stuff for free? Hell, no.

However, treating the people who foolishly bought your version of the game like sheep and making them pay additional money is not a good PR strategy, especially when it goes against the will of the original developers.
Right, that sounds like the case against Microsoft... but what should Valve be doing differently?
Making Episode 3 would be nice.
I can think of supposedly "more reputable" games companies that have gotten away with far worst.
But we're not really discussing that are we, my comment was more of a jokey comment and I should really put myself on probation.

The issue is the pricing thing, which I believe is Microsofts fault but in reply to your comment "what should Valve be doing differently", well nothing really (and you know this) although I do feel giddy thinking about my PS3 having these sort of updates and map pack quite possibly for free.

Valve should just stick to the PC. It's what they do best, and they won't be handcuffed by Microsoft and/or Sony.

Probably not an intentional dig at MS, but the numbers are true, so that made me laugh either way.

And I don't even have L4D. I thought 6.79 was too expensive for it :p
If i can pay 100$ for a game like bioshock 2, that i'll finish in about 10 hours, i can sure as hell pay 6.79 for a game i so far have 80 hours of.
Relax, I wasn't saying L4D is worthless junk, I was just mentioning how incredibly cheap I am that even 6.79 was "too much" for me.

This is all well and good, but they're being assholes to the Xbox fans.
Mass Effect released its first DLC for 160 gamerpoints. I believe the lowest is 80. They could at least try and argue them down from $7.

However, this is awesome. Steam here i come!

Your point? I can't actually run Left 4 Dead smoothly on my PC. Hell, I can barely run Team Fortress 2 at all. I don't mind paying 7 bucks for the Left 4 Dead 2 DLC on the Xbox and it comes with No Mercy along with the Sacrifice (Making Left 4 Dead 2 a tad bit better then L4D 1.)

It's 7 bucks, it's not that big a deal to me.

I think the mass effect DLC was a lot smaller wasn't it? Maybe I'm wrong, but I bet microsoft has a policy where the price is based on size of the DLC, so if valve's update was very large, then it would have been more than 7.

Also the mass effect DLC is very old, I'm sure it was more expensive on release.

You mean this:

http://www.destructoid.com/psa-flow-is-free-on-psn-right-now-163576.phtml

That's not the same kind of free, that's a short term promotion. And Flow it's always been free on PC:

http://www.xgenstudios.com/play/flow

Games I listed remain free.

Shhhaaah... North America only, I live in the UK so :(

But that's one, that I reasonably wouldn't have known about and I never stated there were no free games, simply that I knew of none. But what other free games on XBLA?

Yeah but Microsoft understands how to rid people from their money and still get defended by their fanboys for it :D
Doesn't this belong in general discussion... wait. Sorry, I thought you were talking about Republicans.

OP- Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll finally pick this up this weekend.
