This is all well and good, but they're being assholes to the Xbox fans.
Mass Effect released its first DLC for 160 gamerpoints. I believe the lowest is 80. They could at least try and argue them down from $7.

However, this is awesome. Steam here i come!
I think the mass effect DLC was a lot smaller wasn't it? Maybe I'm wrong, but I bet microsoft has a policy where the price is based on size of the DLC, so if valve's update was very large, then it would have been more than 7.

Also the mass effect DLC is very old, I'm sure it was more expensive on release.
Nah, that was the release price but it was shorter: around 90 minutes if you did everything available.
It's invariably Microsoft giving us the shaft but I find it hard to believe Valve doesn't have bargaining power.

Probably not an intentional dig at MS, but the numbers are true, so that made me laugh either way.

And I don't even have L4D. I thought 6.79 was too expensive for it :p

eugh filth and lies... L4D 1 and 2 are awesoooooooome. Annoyingly I'm a consoler though so I had to pay microsoft rates for the sacrifice :(

They have a right to sell the game, I guess they can sell it at whatever price they like. It's nice, for a change, to see somebody putting the prices of games down, in stead of up.

Why is it still costing me $20 USD to buy? Is this only available in the USA or something?

Yeah, I noticed the Steam offer and even though I'm not into zombie games, it was quite tempting. If I had some mates interested in playing it I'd have bought it, but alas... :(

Still... gotta love Valve - this is why I don't hate Steam, their deals make their DRM worth dealing with.

Ahh Valve; you're the Pixar of the gaming world.
That....is exactly what I've been saying for years. Spooky. Though, seeing how their filmography has been going lately, what with the increasingly high-quality short films they've been doing, I wouldn't call it a stretch of the imagination to think they'd try dabbling in the film industry. Not sure how that'd go, but they've already enlisted the help of people from Pixar, Industrial Light and Magic, and Weta. So who knows.

Anyway, on topic. I find this hilarious. I have both Left 4 Dead one and two on PC and Xbox360. It really irks me, however, that I have to buy the DLC on Live whereas I don't on Steam. I've heard time and time again how much it also bothers Valve. Microsoft's restrictive content hosting and updating policy has ruined many of Valve's plans for their 360 titles.

*cough* Team Fortress 2 *cough*

While I agree with some that the price drop, or sale, wasn't solely the result of Valve jabbing at Microsoft, I do think however that the actual price point is.

One last note for those that have been wondering. Microsoft does have a policy wherein they have certain minimum price points that must be applied to DLC of certain file sizes. Mostly due in part to the space needed for hosting. Developers are still free to charger whatever price they want, but there are minimums to be met or exceeded. Bearing this in mind, if one considers the size of the DLC's for Left 4 Dead 2, it's anyone's guess as to how Valve talked Microsoft down from 800 to 560 points.
