As cynical as I am towards anything that I could consider a PR move, Valve manages to come across as a genuinely good people.

I doubt any other game company could accidentally ban thousands and make just about everyone respond with cheers.

Maybe Valve is sustained by love instead of money.

See this would of been the biggest nightmare since the Assassins creed 2 server crashes, but they showed us that while everyone's worries about steam can come true, valve is willing to pay you compensation and then some to rectify their problem.

EDIT: Plus with steam being all digital, it costs valve nothing but potential sales to do things type of things. No physical copy = no loss.
