Valve Responds to Racism Accusations

Racism is only racism if the person being accused is actually racist. CoJ was set during the Civil War, of course there is going to be a Confederate Flag! Jeez! In GTA: San Andreas you played an African American and killed some white people, wouldn't that be considered racist? People should just leave games alone, they are one of the few areas less affected by the economic stress that has everyone. Let them be!

The legal test for a claim of being racially villified is actually only that the victim feels vilified. So you can be guilty of racism, even if your not a racist.... if the person you interacted with feels that you racially villified them.

About call of jaurez *I haven't played it but have seen the opening few minutes* isn't it set in the civil war at the beginning? So not having the flag there would'nt work all too well would it? Once again haven't played it only seen a bit of footage at the beginning. So he might have meant use of the flag.

i always thought it was weird with re4 when you gunned down hordes of latin european zombies noone cared and then when its set in africa everyone starts to call racism. personally i think its the people trying to cause a ruckus over the issue of race are the real problem.

Note that the author states:

"I have so much respect for President Lincoln -- he wanted to preserve the Union and ended up freeing the slaves -- and have just as much respect for the Union Army."

If the author knew the real history behind the Civil War he would know President Lincoln actually believed that white people were superior by nature as he more or less states in his own diaries.

Moreover, both armies committed awful atrocities against civilians, there were no real winners, everyone came away with horrendous losses and far from being free it took another 100 years to get some decent liberties for African Americans.

So he doesn't mind the depiction of killing Japanese. To say it is okay to depict the killing of one race but not another is racist, fact.

Those who know a bit of the history know that World at War didn't have to exaggerate when it came to the Imperial Army, and also that most of those Japanese soldiers deserved far worse than what they got (that goes for most of the Imperial Army, particularly in Manchuria). He's still a dumbass, but it's good to know the context.

L4D 2 is not racist, unless you want to start calling L4D 1 racist as well, since there you are only killing white people (oh, my bad caucasians) and OMG there is only one black person (oh, my bad again african american!)...

Unfortunately the backlash of killing hordes of white people zombies in L4D was not felt as much, but I assure you, it is an atrocity that the people of my native country Caucasia won't soon forget!

Meh. People are just too quick to judge. There's either too many or not enough of race A, B, or C. People have claimed that Castle Crashers was racist. Their claim being people in white suits(the 4 main knights) going out and killing little black people(those little fuzzy guys in the Forest level). Some people just look for any reason to assault something.

The zombies in L4D aren't stereotypes or anything- its not like they wear grass skirts or throw spears- so why is this guy getting upset? The game is set in New Orleans, there are black people who live in New Orleans, hence, there are black zombies. Its not racist, its just accurate. Wouldn't it be worse to have only white zombies?

EDIT- Just read through the paragraph again. The only thing I have to say is: should [Prototype} not have been set in New York because of 9/11? Should Call of Duty 1-3 and WaW not exist because of WW2? Should Battlefield: Vietnam not have been made?

These are settings, alright? Hurricane Katrina was bad, yes, but having a hands-off policy when it comes to mentioning it is just ridiculous. Hell, when I thought of L4D2 being set in New Orleans, I thought that perhaps they might be using the zombies as allegory for the hurricane, in order to give a depiction of how hard the chaos caused by events that completely destroy society is. This blogger should wait until the game is released and then give it a try- he may be pleasantly surprised.

People cannot be satisfied. No black zombies and your not ethnically diverse. Include black zombies and your now your a racist. I think its racist that its fine to kill white people, asian people, european people, etc, but its only racist if you kill black people. There is just no way so satisfy some people.
