You want them to make Half-Life 3? Don't buy the other games they're coming out, simple as that. When they'll need money, they'll get around to it.

Or, perhaps they won't, because the stuff they've been making besides Half-Life is great, and, as such, sells well.

If they aren't getting around to releasing it, there must be valid reasons. I don't really care either way, I like the L4D series more,.

I love how you explain it like this is a fairly new concept.

Valve take their time, and it's coming in one form or another. It's the series that made them, they're not just going to leave it hanging.

They didn't develop Blue Shift, or Opposing Forces. Those are the titles that made Gearbox famous. Irrelevant or not >>

Also L4D started off as them screwing around, and they realized friends and family -really- liked it. So they made it a game, and lots of people liked it...so they cashed in..Same with portal.

:p they get distracted just like anyone else. I think they want to go out with a bang however, and the current engine and such is not to their liking.

...and NOW I find out that the've come out with a game called Vindictus which is an MMO, STOP MAKING OTHER GAMES!!!!!! HALF LIFE 3!!!! MAKE HALF LIFE 3!!!
Valve did not make Vindictus. The only reason that Valve's name is on it is because Nexon, the people who did make it, used the source engine which was developed by Valve. A quick glance over the Wikipedia page would have told you this and saved you a lot of frustration and embarrassment.

Left 4 Dead did not start off as Valve screwing around. It was started by a company called Turtle Rock Studios which Valve bought while they were in development of Left 4 Dead.

Portal was a student project by seniors at Digipen called Narbacular Drop. While one of the higher ups at Valve was visiting the school he was shown the game and basically gave them all jobs on the spot.

Once again, do a quick Wikipedia search before speaking.

It's amazing that they've only released two Half Life games in what, 12 years? Not counting the extras they do.

Valve is more than just a Developer now. With the Steam Store becoming more popular than it was before, they have other things to do.

Yes it sucks it's been three years since Ep2, but really, they are just games. Do something else other than getting mad over a product and enjoy it when it finally arrives.

Valve had nothing to do with Blue shift and Opposing forces so I kinda stopped reading when you said that since clearly you don't have your facts straight.
This. Also, just because you (that is, the OP) don't want anyone to point it out, Opposing Force and Blue Shift were made by Gearbox Software.

But anyway, enough of this. Yep, it's kind of annoying that there has been no more Half-Life since episode 2, but it's gone on so long now, we're not caring about it as much as we used to.

Stop feeling so self-entitled, I'm really sick of gamers whining about stuff like this, Valve is a business, first and foremost, not your personal entertainment slaves. Yes, yes, it's been a long time since Episode 2, and I do really want to play Episode 3/Half-life 3, but Valve owes us nothing, they're a great company that actually respect their consumer base.

Would you prefer if Valve took the 'Call of Duty' root and just mass produced games each year without the rigorous playtesting they're known for?
The problem with this mentality is that this is exactly what episodic gaming was meant to be. Quick releases of small expansions.

If they are working on Half-Life 3 than 3 years is perfectly reasonable. If they are working on Episode 3, than 3 years is pathetic.
True, episodic gaming is supposed to work that way, but Valve Time negates that unfortunately. I'd much rather have a heavily playtested, debugged 6 hour Episode 3 that took 3 years to make then a buggy, poorly done Episode 3 that took a year. Plus, I'm assuming that Episode 3 is probably going to go the 'Orange Box' route, with other games and extras included.

Did you stop to think they are expanding on portal to set up for half life 3? I for one want to see HL3 or episode three, but, I'm going to be patient, because, I want to see a game that is true to the series and is fun to play. I may not speak for everyone, but, I'm positive that there are a lot of people here who are just as impatient as you are.

ouch, I'm not saying that I'm personally entitled to them slaving themselves for me I'm just saying that they've been holding onto the Half Life 3/episode 3 idea for sooooo long now that the fact they always seem to be working on something different seems frustrating, I just don't want to see half life get swept under the carpet

I agree with every post so far. Yes they don't owe us nothing; they have been making good games for a long time. Even the ones after Episode 2 were pretty decent. My only hope is that Episode 3 finishes the story properly (if it will indeed be the last HL) We'll just have to wait and see :D

I'm such a TF2 nut I don't really give a damn. The updates keep rolling in.

But even that only goes so far. There are other game companies that successfully make expansions or even sequels in 1-2 years time that are well thought out and well executed. Being quick does not necessarily mean being sloppy. Especially considering that the same engine is used for episodic gaming. There should be a relatively low number of bugs to begin with when you are using your own 6 year old engine.

Still, as I said we don't know what they are working on. If they intend to make Episode 3 then there is no justification for the amount of time it has taken them. Because of the time between releases I am led to believe that they are just moving straight on to Half-Life 3, at which point I have no problem with the time involved.

Paragraph breaks - the OP desperately needs them. As it is now there is simply no way I am going to grit my way through that mess of a post.

Wow, how dare valve make a bunch of great games and develop their other franchises. If I had my way, they'd spend all their time and money making one specific game that I want. WahWahWah. /sarcasm.

Exactly this. Are you aware of something called "The Internet"? The place where thousands of people have already whinged about what you're whinging about? Except I think they were a little more coherent about it. If everyone else can wait, you can.

Anyway. I'm far more excited about Portal 2. Pretty glad they got "distracted" with this, to be honest.
