I've hung out with vegans and even roadied for some vegan bands. I wear a bit of leather, but I find thats at least way better than wearing fur. I eat a fair amount of chicken, beef, and pork, but I'm trying to cut down, especially with the pork (which is definitely not good for the body or the enviroment, pig farming is actually worse then cattle). People tell me that, if you can make it past the first week, you'll do fine, and make it past the first few months, and you'll feel perfectly healthy. I support their decision, but I won't totally turn down some good barbeque if I can get it.

I'm a pescedarian myself. I eat fish, but not meat.

I think that veganism is a step too far.

Sure you're healthy, but life is for enjoying.

The reason I don't eat meat is because it tastes horrible to me.
God bless you my son :D

I can't stand people who are pescedarian who think killing the poor 'ickle piggies is wrong but it's ok to brutally murder fish. It boils my fucking blood. I eat meat btw I just can't stand the hyposcrisy.

There's a really funny Armstrong and Miller sketch where one of them is veggie and the other isn't. They are at the veggies house and he hasn't done meat for his mate so his mate says "why haven't I got meat", veggie says "We're veggetarians", he says "but I did you a veggie meal when you came over". I actually think they have a point thoughm why should meat eaters cater to veggies and not the other way around?

People claim to be Vegan or Veggie because of the animals yet eat and drink soya products grown on deforested rainforest also sicken me, surely Orangutans and shit are more important than cows bred to be eaten.

I have no real problem with either although I cannot understand it, what I do have a problem with is that many of them strike me as massively hypocritical tossers.

Also from an evolutionary point of view we have evolved with meat in our diet so I think to cut it out is unhealthy. It was eating meat which catalysed our brains to grow as well.

tl;dr: No veganism for me, I am an omnivore the way nature intended, plus a lot of vegans and veggies strike me as hypocritical tossers.
Armstrong and Miller? There's a sketch just like like by Mitchell and Webb. It must be a hot topic!

On subject, I do not mind whether people are vegetarians, vegans, or carnivores. It's a little like religion; be whatever you want to be, but expect me to kick up a fuss if you wave it in front of my face.

I've never in my life met a truly healthy vegan or vegetarian. They usually look jaundiced and are rail thin. The human body needs animal proteins to be healthy and build or maintain muscle (your muscles aren't made of soy.)

I personally think that vegans and the like can do what they want until they try to look down on me or tell me I'm a bad person for eating meat. That's when I show them that I'm a bad person, but because preachy people make me short tempered not because I eat cow (mmm, sweet sweet cow.)
Sorry i'm just curious about this but how many have you met? Personally being a vegan i'm deffinately not rail thin or jaundiced looking and am actually rather healthy as is the same for every veggie i've met or spoken too. It is very doable.
We have a much larger group of them in our town than we should, 30k people and I've met at least 20. None of them are healthy looking, all of them get sick constantly. And you aren't healthy, you are missing nutrients that you need and the consequences will show as you get older.

And if you eat fish, you aren't a vegetarian. If you occasionally eat chicken, you aren't a vegetarian. Vegetarian means you don't eat the flesh of animals, and contrary to popular belief, fish is an animal (so are eggs in my opinion since they have animal proteins and all.) Vegetarian = don't eat meat Vegan = don't eat or use anything that was an animal or is an animal by-product.
Ah ok then, but i am healthy i know i'm healthy and actually i'm pretty sure i do get all the nutrients i need. Also i'd just like to say please don't sterotype an entire group based upon the few people you've met that belong to it.

Personally, I'm quite happy eating meat, in all its glorious forms. Still, a few of my friends are vegetarian by choice, and I could quite happily join their ranks, if I so wished.

However, veganism I couldn't do. I like my leather jackets and boots too much, and I like my meat too much. Still, I don't mind them for their choice, unless they start trying to force their beliefs onto me. That bugs me in any context.

I have eaten an animal killed, slaughtered, and cooked right before my very eyes.

I highly doubt I'd ever be a vegetarian, much less a vegan.

BTW, it was a rabbit. And Thumper makes good eatin'.

My room mate last year was a strict vegetarian, and he dated a vegan girl. They both thought I was disgusting because I ate a kielbasa sausage when I went with them to dinner. Furthermore, she refused to wear leather, and dislike that I wore a leather jacket.

I don't have anything against them for their lifestyle choice, but I personally could never even delve into the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. I like meat too much to willingly be a vegetarian, but I could handle it better than being a vegan under doctor's orders. Veganism, with its lack of anything in the way of eggs, butter, or dairy alongside meat would just not make life possible for me. Worse yet, there are vegans who are also on gluten-free diets by choice.

What are your thoughts? Would you ever do it?

Or are you a vegan? Share your experiences on what made you make that choice.
Eating solely greens and non-animal meats is okay i guess, except that its ridiculously stupid to do so. You can certainly get all your meat-related vitamins and proteins from veggies, but not before you become fundamentally weaker as a species. Herbivores eat veggies simply because their metabolism and their bodies are specifically designed to handle the nutrients in plants and operate more efficiently on it. Carnivores are much the same in that regard, not requiring any greens as they metabolize all that they need from meats. We are OMNIVORES our bodies, physically and chemically can break down all manner of meat and vegetation, but not to the same scale as either ends of the spectrum. We are meant to handle a balanced diet and never go into either extreme without some form of health risk.

What do you mean, "want to make that choice"? Are lifestyle choices a matter of which you do or don't want to take?

Myself, though, I'd give up meat if it weren't so damn tasty. Probably how the majority feels about it, too.

I'm too much of a bacon-lover

My friend, though, is from an Indian family, and whilst he isn't Hindu, he feels morally more comfertable not eating beef

Once I accidently gave him some meatballs with beef. I felt terrible. Then he told me that he's eaten it before, in a burger at an american diner in New Dehli

That's kinda missing the point, mate

I am a vegan :-D so naturally therefore i do like it :p. the lazy appraoch to answer the why question is to link to peta so here it is: http://www.peta.org/

I'm surprised you havn't been flamed into the ground yet for posting that PETA link. Judging by your post count, your relativly new here, so i'll forwarn you that there is a LOT of PETA hate here.

On the subject of PETA, is it quite a "loud" organisation in the states? I'm from the UK and i hardly ever hear anything about PETA, dispite the fact that Brit's are supposidly animal lovers, so you would think they would be big in my country, but they're not. Hence personally i'm not that annoyed by PETA, since i hardly hear of them. But i can understand why people here do hate the organisation, based from the little knowledge i know of them. I'm just wondering how big they are in other countries.
umm actually i'm not if you look under my post count you'll see i've been a member since march '08 i'm just not a frequent poster :p. Also i'm from the UK as well so tbh i have the international view of them. They share my ideology and i like some of their campaigns and that and when i first became vegan i used to go on thier website all the time.

Also thanks for the warning i do appreciate it and yeah i know about the peta hate i was just feeling a bit lazy and thought it was an eazy way to say my reasons basically :p

I am a vegetarian.. Thats it.
I dont eat fish. I eat eggs.
I respect the SHIT out of you sir.
Thankyou...
[sub]Why?[/sub]
If you read my (slightly ranty) post earlier I said I respect vegetarians decisions even if I don't understand them but I can't stand those who won't eat meat but will arbitrarily decide that fish are ok to be killed and eaten.
I always just assumed not eating fish was kind of a given. Last time I checked fish was an animal. I'll just go check again...
Would you look at that it still is.

"Vegetarians" that eat fish have no right to call themselves vegetarian.

No I'd never go vegetarian or vegan by choice as I just like meat too much. I don't have a problem with people who are though, as long as they don't try to push it on me.
