Personally, I find it easy to overlook the way the animals are treated because meat is delicious. Of course I completely respect you if you choose not to eat it. I mean no offense from this, but someone sent me this picture the other day and I thought it was funny.

Eating a combination of beans and brown rice is a great way to get whole protiens in your diet. You can replace fish with eggs from cage-free, vegetarian-fed chickens as your primary source of vitamin B-12(And don't worry about eating baby chickens or anything like that. When chickens don't mate, they just lay the unfertilized eggs, similar to a woman's period). There are also many special brands of prepackaged foods that are very vegetarian friendly, like Tofurky, Amy's Kitchen, or Quorn(You'll just have to check out all your local stores to see who sells them). And, whatever you do, don't eat anything with gelatin.

If you eat the right foods, and do the right research, you won't have to take pills or sacrifice taste, as many of the posters before me have implied(The only reason you'd have to take pills is if you decided to go full vegan, in which case, you'd need B-12 supplements). I also am a vegetarian, so I understand a lot of your concerns. I do wish you the best of luck, if you decide to stick with this lifestyle choice. It can be hard, and people won't understand it, but it's still very rewarding.

Try to eat lots of nuts and pop some multi vitamins. Just do your own research it's not hard to find out what food has what vitamins and what you need that isnt meat

Technically not vegetarian but piscatarian if you still eat fish. You should be fine. Just find things that you like that will give you the right minerals. Quorn and tofu if cooked correctly can be very nice, despite what some people think. Dairy products are also helpful although over-indulging in dairy might not be too healthy. If all else fails you can pick up some mineral tablets specialised for veganism and vegetarianism that make up your lack of some minerals.
Well done by the way!
Or he can go back to a therapist, work out his issues and return to being an omnivore since is logic is frighteningly bad and is an extremely poor excuse for becoming a vegetarian. Especially when there are far worse issues in the word today.
Who are you to criticize his beliefs? How is discriminating for a moral belief any better than discriminating over a religious belief?

Also by your logic we should ignore theft because murder is a worse threat to the world. If he believes killing animals is wrong and can make a difference as easy as changing his diet why shouldn't he?

Just because you have a different viewpoint to him it doesn't mean you shouldn't respect it.

You know, something I don't understand is if the vegans are right and human kind was NEVER meant to eat animal products, why then do they have to take suppliments in order to stay healthy? Shouldn't their body just naturally be well adjusted to eating what we were all meant to eat?

That is, if they aren't just a bunch of crazy people.

You eat fish. Ergo, you are not a vegeterian. Quad Error Demonstrandum.

You just don't eat other types of meat. Eating fish precludes vegeterianism.
Isn't it "Quod Erat Demonstrandum"?

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the sea creatures people seem most keen on protecting are mammals, e.g. dolphins and whales. What's with all the class prejudice?
People want to protect that which looks 'cute'.
Dolphins look cute and can live, but sharks are ugly and deserve to die.

Most vegans/vegetarians views are not that we were never supposed to eat meat but are more along the lines of "If we don't need to, and if it causes suffering to animals, then why why should we?" Which in my opinion seems perfectly logical.

Also you all seem to be talking of pills and supplements as a necessity. They aren't. They are generally only used by people who want to keep up their belief, but don't like the right food to get the right nutrients, or they can't afford (monetarily) to keep up their diets and keep them balanced (such as students). The final group or people that will use them are just generally paranoid that they aren't getting the right nutrients. I know plenty of perfectly healthy vegetarians who don't take any form of pills.

I'm Vegan and basically just eat a wide variety of fruit, veg and everything that isn't meat basically and perhaps you should invest in a couple of books to help you get information on things like nutrition.

Also prepare for the hate(which i suppose is demonstrated somewhat by some of these responses) seriously i get so much hate for being a vegan it's ridiculous.

Oh yes and you won't need to take pills to supplement your diet they're just a recomended idea i have been vegan now for almost two years before that i was vegetarian for 3 and i have never once taken any form of supplement so only if you want to.

cant it be PROVEN that man is not meant to eat only veggies or only meat?

if you live in poverty, 3rd world country etc. you eat what you can get your hands on, you dont care what it is, as long as its sustenance for your body to keep on functioning, and our body processes it. without meat your body would fail if it was not for the alternative forms of gaining the nutrients, same for veggies.

I find Veganism, Vegetarianism to be a product of people who have excess money to spend on their new life style. I.E, why pay double for a bottle of pills for protein , then for iron, when you can buy a steak for half that and grill it at home?

but I guess its whatever floats your boat.

Does being raised to die really matter? If we all just hunted our meat, does that make it better? It would seem that a wild animal, trying desperately to live only to be one of our meals seems worse then an animal who was raised in the lap of luxury (comparatively) and killed after the prime of their life. Seems like a good deal.
Spoken like someone who has no concept of factory farming. Look up a chicken battery farm. It's like calling Auschwitz the "lap of luxury."

You'd think that would be hyperbole, but, honestly, what we do to animals is pretty sick. That picture of a farm with a cow, some pigs, a dozen chickens and a red barn? That's not the reality. Animals, in modern farms, are treated as simple machines that convert low quality grain into meat - their needs are far from being the farmer's concern.

Fish and pasta is a good mix, and most Japanese dishes have a lot to offer in the way of vegetarian/pescetarian diets.

Also, don't let these haters get to you, they're just frustrated. I wouldn't go completely off animal proteins, but if you do, that's just fine.

You can get protein from beans and broccoli. It's a cheaper and more efficient way to get protein.

It'll actually save you quite a bit of money. http://lifehacker.com/5271178/

Uh, beans? Where do you think tasty animals get iron from in the first place? Wouldn't you think it'd be more efficient to cut out the middle man?

Out of all the things in the world, I would be most disappointed with my kid if they became a vegetarian or (even worse) a vegan.

Okay. Care to explain why?
