That's pretty amazing.
I've got a feeling there could well be a lot of people you'd oppose it (with the technology using stem cells), but it seems to me like a small price to pay for what could, potentially, end food shortages.

That said, it won't mean vegetarians will become extinct. Some people genuinely don't like the taste...

This doesn't help me as I don't eat meat simply because I don't like it...

And wacky science meat seams somehow even less appetising...

I'd try it, at the very least.

I eat meat solely because I like the taste though, so that's the critical thing.

I've even tried those vegetarian 'fake meats' at times, but they have such a horrible aftertaste you might as well not bother if you go down that road...

If it can create a taste even similar to low-grade meat products like mince, hamburgers, sausages and the like, it'd be quite useful.

I agree, and vegetarians should be first in line to receive stem cell pork vouchers.

Side note: how is this in any way impressive
- didnt they already clone dolly the sheep?
- Why dont we have loads of dolly clones?
- Why isn't my donner kebab (allegedly lamb) cheaper?

Well my days as a vegetablearian aren't numbered because I can't stand the taste. YAY for me!

Well it could go either way, it could end world hunger or put farmers out of business. It sounds really cool but so wrong at the same time.

EDIT: If the British government is anything to go buy, they'll probably put farmers out of business with it. Then the media will tell us if you eat it you'll grow 3 arms overnight and become a zombie or something. Then there'll be manufactured pork flu.

That's just terrible. It ain't meat no more, if it's not from an animal that once lived. The texture isn't right and there aren't as much proteins...

And how is that just going to stop world hunger? There's plenty of food in many countries, yet we don't share (except some UN charity and such) that food for free for those who don't have any.

Had there been tasty, non-cruel meat back when I was a carnivore, I would not be a vegetarian today. However, it's been so long that meat no longer appeals to me. So a grown meat is now a no-go (however, I'd be cool with it being in a soup-base or the like)

Now, onto the topic at hand. If it works, it's brilliant. If your hamburger could taste exactly the same, but be designed to have more omega 3 and less bad stuff, would you care where it came from? My concern here is the whole "end world hunger" thing. If you have to grow stuff to create faux-meat (just like you have to grow stuff to create real meat), it's better to just feed the people with the stuff you grow. It takes less land/resources to give people their protein needs if they get it from vegetable/grain sources and not animals. Animals are a middle-man in the effort to get protein to people. I'd need to see the numbers on this faux-meat to decide if it's suitably better.

"hippy loser twats" - someone wasn't invited to smoke the peace pipe and hug a tree eh?
Your devil reference leads me to think you might be meaning Jesus Junkies / Bible Bashers

Actually i think you still have alot to worry about...

crap latency on Battle.net
and beastiality
- thank god for the japanese sex robots
- although prostitutes might complain that it puts them out of work and they would demand the government subsidise them due to imports of sex robots.

Some more people playing God. How much do you want to bet that it will be to expensive or it will not taste like the real thing.

If they perfect this for pork-products, I am SO sold.

And as long as we have pigs mating and producing stem cells, we'll have plenty of delicious, delicious meat......

Now to perfect this basic food-generation with plant matter, then giant orbital war stations.

I don't think it'll catch on - either because the taste isn't right or its not as good for you

If you read the article, no one has actually tasted this yet. So that alone says this is still a long way off. Hopefully by then it will actually taste more like real pork, but we'll have to see where they go with this.
