So it seems science has finally found a reason why the majority of people who play video games are often quite smart, it seems brain size can be linked to gaming ability.

So what do you think of this news, and has it held true in your personal experience?

There is of course one word in the gamers dictionary that could destroy that whole theory... wii

I do play video games and I am smart, but I've known videogames can tend to make people smarter for a while now.

I've seen studies about this before.

Then what about the screaming spam-bastards on LIVE?

Other than that, yes I agree.

I'm going with this as well.

Little 12 year olds on Halo who scream about T bagging someone are the dumbest fucking people on the planet.

I agree with this post, and the original topic. I also add an additional comment, the study says gaming ability is related to brain size, I'm betting those screaming spam bastards aren't very good, sooo what does that say about them?

My theory is that the only "educational" games are the ones that aren't FPSs.

Except for Bethesda games.
They're full of references
Ah how I love Bethesda. They've taught me so much.

You can learn pretty much anything just from playing Oblivion. I learned that if you crouch behind a counter right in front of someone, its as if you were never there.

No, I mean the references; like that NPC called Skjorta

That's Swedish for shirt
Oh, I know. I was just sharing my gained knowledge of the world that Oblivion has taught me.

Because we all know that police men won't follow you into another room while in pursuit thanks to Oblivion.

Well, besides the XBL kids, I have found that most gamers are pretty smart, they do not only know about gaming but from other interesting subjects. I can talk about physics, politics, biology and other topics with most of my gamer friends, not to mention that many of them speak 2 or more languages

I disagree. Playing games helps improve what is potentially already there - see that other thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.169610#4616816]. The opposite is not true though.

My brain big, me no good at games. Me noob.

What I am trying to say is that even with an IQ over 140 I still suck at games sometimes - more often than not, it is only persistence that gets me through to the end.

So is this is a case of video games making you smarter or smart people playing video games?
Neither. It is a case of people with brains that are more adept at learning also learning to play computer games faster/better. Since the game was specially developed for this study too, I wouldn't draw any generalizing conclusions about gamers and their relative intelligence.

It is proof of pretty much nothing concrete at this point.

What?
Yes they do.

You're thinking of GTA
They didn't do that with me.

I had the Grey Cowl on most of the time and guards would instantly come up and try to make me pay a fine, but if I left the area or just walked far enough, they'd stop following me.

*sigh* unfortunately this is true.
