Alright, so tonight I decided I wanted to play Fable II. I start up my 360 and put the disc in.

After I start up the game, I hear a terrible, vicious, scratching noise. I panic, turn off the console, and quickly open the disk drive.

Oh no. Big nasty scratches all around the outer edge of the disc.

What's worse, is that I spent the entire night playing the Pub Games to get the extra content for the new character I was about to start. So not only can I no longer play the game, but I wasted this entire night getting ready to play it! It's terrible.

I put the game in correctly and everything, but my 360 is old. It makes the most atrocious sounds when it plays games. I am glad it won't be with me much longer, as I'm getting the Elite soon.

So, to help me cope with this horrible loss, please, let me know that I am not alone! Tell me of your worst disasters in games.

Back in my pokemon days, I had accumulated something like 50 hours on one file and I'd caught 140 pokemon - then, my big fat **** of a cousin comes over and asks to play the game; I allow her, and she ends up saving over my file..... I still remember that day when I loaded up my game and I saw that "1" beside the word pokedex - AND SHE HAD PICKED FUCKING CHARMANDER, of all the pokemon. I mean seriously, charmander is fine and all, but everybody knows that you pick Bulbasaur so that the first two gym leaders are a breeze. I mean, FUCK.

Got Pokemon Platinum the other day. Started playing, had some fun with it and took a break. I turn my DS off, come back in about 3 hours. "There is no DS card inserted."

Hasn't worked since, got about 2-3 hours of play from it.

I downloaded The Ballad of Gay Tony, and as I was taking my GTA IV disc out of the case, it cracked right down the middle.

I can never 100 percent complete dragon quest monsters!

As the cartridge's memory is busted.
Everytime I get to the end, the battery dies (on the cartridge not the console) randomly forcing me to start a new game!

Its so sad! :,(

Oh and Empire: Total War, not a specific occurrence, just the experience in general.

Ouch.

Just... ouch. At least I can possibly repair mine. You're gonna' have to buy a new copy.

I had this with my precious Worms World Party disk, and more recently i managed to narrowly avert it with Machinarium soundtrack disk.

Don't even get me started on damaged save files and accidential switches to desktop (yay for hours of work disappearing in one tap on a keyboard!)

I've lost everything three times in Pokemon Firered. The first time it happened, I'd beaten the Elite four and was approaching 200 in my Pokedex. A few months later I bought a new cartridge. It happened again, slightly sooner. Earlier this year I tried playing again (with the second cartridge), and I got up to the sixth badge... and then it died all over again. Love is hard.

Well, thats an easy fix. You just need to get the disk resurfaced. It is just the coating that got sratched. You could try a DVD rental place, as they usually need one of those on hand just in case.

I would hardly call a game disc scratching or breaking a horror story. That's an easy fix...buy a new one. It still sucks mind you, but isn't that big a deal.
It's when a save file gets corrupted..that's the worst.
I have had it happen to me playing Final Fantasy II , Super Metroid, FF Tactics, Donkey Kong Country, and all after several days of gameplay and being well past the 50% mark in those games. Now I always save to at least three different slots when saving a game, just in case.

Playing Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 with a friend. Game freezes, so I reboot and get a RROD. Almost started to cry.

And though it's not really game-related, my TV busted out on me a few days ago. Well, not really, but it was heading for destruction. So I sent it off for repairs. It's been a week and I'm starting to have dreams about people giving me TV's. I want to play Borderlands in HD dammit!

Oh, trust me, the scratches are pretty nasty. I tried buffing them out already, but to no avail.

There's a big difference between "The console decided to eat my disc." and "Oops! I dropped it!" The heard the most horrific grinding noise. For a gamer like myself, this is worse than nails across a chalkboard.

True, it could be much worse, but considering I spent my whole night gearing up for this, it adds up. Plus, I'm dirt poor and currently unemployed. I'll have to part with what little cash I have left in order to get this sucker back. Either that, or my family will replace something else on the ol' X-mas list with this, and that just sucks for a number of reasons.

I was playing Morrowind. I had a God like thing going on so I stopped collecting things from the corpses. Anyway it's time to get Sunder. I spent 2 days looking for it. This was my no guide play through. First time I played it to. Long story short I left it on Vemyn corpse. The corpse was gone. I can never bring my self to play it now. Stupidy hurts.

Ehhh... I have to think on this.

Oh, one day I decide to buy Resident Evil 5, in conjunction with my little brother as he's a huge fan of the series as well. We get it home, and are able to play through the whole game and then about half way through yet again until one day, the 360 cuts off in the middle.

From across the room (yippee for wireless controllers~) I see the little rings flash on the console. And they're red. I fell over the couch to look at the thing- only two red rings. Still, though, this was one of the original Xbox 360's, I was amazed that it hadn't RROD'd. We had to get it replaced.

Unfortunately, we had to replace the HARD DRIVE that came with it (the warranty stated as such), which meant bye bye every save file for every 360 game we'd saved on it.

It was horrible as soon as I realized my Naruto: Rise of a Ninja files were going to have to go away. If you've never played that game, it's seemingly endless missions of running miles out of the village to get something or race, then come back just to make one person happy. The goal is to make all of the villagers like Naruto.

There are some around 200-250 villagers.

I refuse to play that game, now, unless I really have to. x3

Once I bought a copy of Rock Band, Guitar Hero 2 plus two guitar controllers from a friend for $40 and when I went home to play Rock Band it wouldn't get anywhere past the title screen and when I looked at the disc and wouldn't you know it, it was all beaten to hell and back. Looked like it was used as a frisbee welded by a horde of trolls who mistook it for a wafer and upon realized the mistake proceeded to toss it around while wearing gloves mad of sandpaper, gravel and barbed wire. Took eleven buffs before it would work again.

Also my Wii's disk intake mechanism or what ever the hell you call it is tits up. So now it works but since the games won't go in its been sitting around mocking me.

Also Drake of the 99 Dragons disfigured Jay Leno after stealing his chin and has been known to cause abortions and eats puppies.

Playing Final Fantasy XI on my first 360. My friends had been playing a while, so it took me about three months to level a job to the point where I could xp party with them. The very night we were about to go out and wreck shop for the first time, guess what? Yup...Red Ring of Death. I was so pissed off I wanted to throw my own crap.

I can't think of any major horror stories, but I went back to playing the original Red Faction, which I got for free when I pre-ordered Guerrilla. I played it for most of an afternoon, and then finally died for the first time. That's when I remembered that some older games don't have autosave or checkpoints anywhere. Good 3 hours, gone.

Accidentally ran my old GBA SP through the wash one day. To Nintendo's credit, it still worked fine!
