Why is he wrong? Because of some stupid government label? If he didn?t consider game art before he isn?t going to change his opinion now.
He can think whatever he likes. The fact remains, video games can now get government grants and are definitively protected under the first amendment.

The fact that one of the most powerful governments in the world gave it a "stupid" "label" makes him pretty wrong.

As the average age of the gamer increases, and the 'gamers' rise to more prominent seats of power there will certainly be a shift of thinking...

Games have always been art, and we don't need the National Endowment for the Arts to tell us what we have already known for a long time

Take that Roger Ebert.
Just posted it on his Facebook page. Respectfully of course.
He won?t care. He was right them and he?s right now. Games aren?t art.
AHAHAHFDCASHGFGDASHGHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA? You're joking right?

Tell you what, I'll agree with you on this:

And no a label doesn't make him wrong a piece of paper doesn't make something art.
You're right. This doesn't make games an art form. Games have been an art form since pong. Ebert has been dead wrong since he posted his infamous article.

This just validates all that.

You're also wrong about the first amendment, which does protect against certain aspects.

Now tell me this: If a team of professional artists make quality art for years, collaborating with the singular goal of making a moving experience, how can the result NOT be art?

Games have always been art, and we don't need the National Endowment for the Arts to tell us what we have already known for a long time
Exactly. But the 1st amendment protection and grant money is nice. Plus the federal government now backs us up in the debate against naysayers.

It shouldn't even matter in the first place.

I still don't get why people care so much.
The whole point is that by being officially considered an art form video games would fall under the protection of the first amendment in the US constitution. Meaning that all these BS laws states keep trying to pass that would treat games the same way as alcohol and porn will no longer be able to happen because they would violate the constitution.

It means that Jack Thompson is now out of a job basically.

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about this guy. He must be devastated.

Although, I'm pretty sure his license to practice law was revoked, anyway. It'd be funny to see his reaction to this.

$10 is on a lawsuit of some sort. Doesn't matter who, just some lawsuit.

OT: Yay! Now we to can wear think glasses, berets, and say "feh" at anyone who does not understand us!

Really though, I am glad. Now can we stop talking about this?

Does this mean that people can stop arguing about a topic that was completely pointless to argue about from the beginning? Because if so, THAT, my friends, is the real victory.

Well, fancy that. We're all art critics now.

*Puts in a monocle*

Indeed.
