So there's this guy on some radio show I listen to who, whenever anything that involves video games(or animation, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, or whatever remotely related), is mentioned, he always answers with...

"I don't watch/play/read that stuff... I like girls... I like sports... I like ESPN..."

Basically, everything else not sports related or involves real women to this guy is not manly... its all kids stuff...

People in my daily life are starting to say similar lines and its starting to piss me off...

So, Besides ignoring them (or turning the radio off), What is a good response to people who think that everthing you like is not "Manly"?

How would you respond to these "manly" people?

Whats the point of responding? Life is to short to waste time on idiots. Find better people to hang with.

"Manly" in my book is synonymous with stuck-up brainless ignorants that uses their "parts" rather than their mind in order to decide what best to do. In other words, people who talk like that might want to check up on what else that term implies about themselves. ;P

You respond with a brick through their window
I'm not really all that sure, I've never come across someone that thinks that way, I'd imagine it would anger me though.

I would ignore them.

That, or you could use your awesome debating skills, and convince them videogames aren't for kids.

Trouble is, you can't debate with those kind of people. They're pretty similiar to religious extremists in that respect.

Edit: You could try to explain to them that in 50 years or so, when the people born before videogames are all dead and playing videogames has become the undisputed norm, people will look back, and think of them as absolute retards, along with the people who thought TV was the work of the devil.

Scull half a bottle of scotch, then demand they scull the other half. Then go have sex with their significant other. Then kick a footy ball into their nuts.

Then laugh in a manly way as they writhe in pain and sadness while puking their guts out.

... It's a lot easier to just tell 'em to fuck off and ignore them.

Let them live.
Just remember that you are actually a better person, enjoying the many thing a advanced technoligical civilization can offer to you. And also laugh inside each time they mention how it is hard to update a driver or something like that.

For me "manly" is a another way to describe " Néandertal".
And last, watch the movie "Idiocracy" just to confirm that fact.

I try to take a reasonable stance on the subject, in this case outlining in conversation how the average age of the gamer, in combination with the percentage of the gaming populace that is male [http://www.dmwmedia.com/news/2008/07/17/survey:-average-u.s.-gamer-age-35%3B-40%25-are-women], means that if we are connecting gaming with manliness, it's more acceptable for a "manly man" to pop a few heads in an FPS than he might think, etc. etc.
If you really want to change how they think and not just berate said person, it's important to not be too abrasive, but to keep a level-headed conversation with a purpose (not easy to do with some people).

"Okay."

Why? Mostly because I've already decided that they're too thick-headed and stupid to argue with. This also seems to be my response to lots of people, so...

Don't let it bother you. Sure, you could attempt to prove him incorrect, but that would require effort and time. I don't know about you, but I have better things to spend my energy on doing. Like playing videogames.

I find them really annoying, but after a short rant I usually decide it's best to leave them alone. The rant is necessary D:

Let's compare Gears of War and football ( soccer if you insist ).

One is a game about walking mountains of muscle who wear half a car and chainsaw 8 foot tall monsters in half with their gun.
The other is a game where sweaty men in shorts and long socks play with balls.

If anything, I'd say he's girly because he doesn't play video games.

I probably wouldn't bother.

If you look antagonised, you look foolish. If you react strongly, they enable their defences to avoid losing face...people will cling to something they know is wrong if their pride is at stake.

Silly prejudices don't stem from reasoned thought, they're knee-jerk... I would just ask "Why exactly do you think that?", in hope that forcing someone to explain their own stupidity out loud might help them realise how little sense it makes.

You can rationalise anything to make sense inside your own head...
