Some people come across as obsessed with 'manly' activities such as sports, gym, and shagging, not because they enjoy the activities, but because they want to portray a powerful macho image.
Some people seem obsessed with money, anything that doesn't involved advancing your pay packet or showing off how much money you have seems to confuse them - why volunteer? You don't get paid. Money = power. They again are driven by rather primitive ambitions.
Other people are obsessed with putting across an image of high intelligence. People who read high brow books in public places specifically so others can see them and think "wow, they're smart". They may often talk down to others, and look down upon anything that doesn't show off intellectual prowess. Knowledge is power, they're sub-concious motivations are less advanced then they would like to think.
Then again other people are sporty/rich/intelligent because they genuinely enjoy the life they live, and are perfectly accepting of other lifestyles.
