As I looked at the Game Politics website I found this

http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/03/28/video-games-get-blame-colorado-shooting-spree

To me this is getting ridiculous. This kid obviously had problems. Well anyways what do you guys think?

Lets face it. Videogames are the only reason he didin't do it any sooner.

"Like the thugs in "Grand Theft Auto" and warlocks in "World of Warcraft," Martin-Urban showed no emotion..."
I lol'd.

I thought thugs in GTA are like real-life thugs?

And warlocks... come on. You might as well go on a killing spree and blame Drizzt Do'Urden, because he killed hundreds of creatures without a remorse.

*sigh* Just..*sigh* I'm sorry I just don't have anything more to say about things like this, honestly the officer they're quoting there just sounds desperate, "maybe he had interjected himself into a game in his mind", or maybe he was just a severly tangled up kid.
It's as if they're trying to ignore the fact that people have problems, no that's what games do they take perfect people and turn them into killers over night.

Beware of the heartless warlocks there evil shows no bounds!

This person was seriously warped

"His favorite videos included a prophecy that a 2,000- mile-long spaceship containing cosmic beings was going to appear in the Earth's atmosphere three days after the shooting."

Almost as bad as the mother who blamed her sons suicide on Dungeons and Dragons. She said something along the lines that playing the demonic game caused her son to go into the closet and hang himself. She did not take in consideration of the harassment he was receiving at school (being bullied) and his lack of motivation due to his poor efforts of failing grade, or the parents recent divorce! Video Games is just the 'new thing' to blame because parents don't want to feel like they FAILED at raising their kid up right. And to the spokesmen for Joe Lieberman; who I know are reading this because they will do anything to put more restrictions on game (damn you ESRB), is the senator so bored of political issues that he must attack one of the biggest past times dating from the 70's when Pac-Man was the 'big thing'.

Parents listen to me, if you are going to blame someone for raping, or school shootings, or even suicide; blame yourselves. You should be in your child's life and explain that 'those thing' are wrong. Which they are. And if you are to self centered, up their on your high horse trying to have this poor excuse of a God Complex, thinking that everything you do in NOT wrong; fine, blame your child. Your child is the one who shot his students. Your child is the one who committed suicide. YOUR CHILD is the one who made those decisions and not the companies like Rockstar or Cap-com.

People please stop blaming others and take responsibility for what you could have prevented.

I play World of Warcraft, almost religiously now, and I NEVER went out with a sword and crossbow to slay people so I can get some gold.
I play Grand Theft Auto, every day, and I NEVER went to steal a car and run over people, pick up whores and shot them to get my money back.

People who do that stuff are one of two things. Delusional, and don't know what they are doing is wrong (a self mental problem). Or; Were never taught right from wrong (your fault parents/guardians and teachers).

Please stop blaming the video game companies

Games are not to blame here, and honestly when stuff like this comes up, I'm insulted. Yeah I play violent video games, and yeah I write some creepy stuff, shouldn't I be under close suspection for the next school-shooting then?? According to vgame-bashers, yes, I should. But I'm a peaceful person, I'm a pacifist with virtual violent tendancies; I work out my rage in killing pixels, not people.

But seriously, stuff like this comes from a culmination of issues; family, drugs, psychosis, cults (which, to be honest I found rather amusing in that article) things like that. Maybe a violent game contributed but it wasn't the soul cause. Sure something like GTA might have set him off (though I rather doubt it), but to blame things like this exclusively on games is ridiculous...Pardon my ranting.

This is rediculous. The officer who said like warlock in WoW should be given a good whack. It's either desperation or idiocy. Probably both.

He obviously had serious problems. I've said it once,I'll say it again: The only reason video games could drive you to kill was if you were already insane.

ok so I play games, I watch violent and gore-filled movies, read books on cannibals, listen to metal music, and i used to play dungeons and dragons. yet I'm not going out there and getting all violent and nasty and stupid.

Can't blame the games/movies/music/etc!

Wait, wait, wait. The kid was depressed, traumatized by his father's suicide, cut-off from the rest of the world, obviously troubled and without much support from the family (from what I can tell, anyway) and the only conclusion both the cops and the feds reach is that the problem were the VIDEOGAMES?! SERIOUSLY?! This isn't even technophobia, this is pure stupidity!

Out of all the things I've heard on the matter, out of all the ignorant idiots that are quick to jump on the "blame the games!" bandwagon (despite a mentally unstable guy being able to get his hands on a GUN should be somewhat higher on the goddamn list), this one takes the cake. At least Thompson was funny. He was like a stupid Muppet. This is... gah!

Fuck 'em.

Martin-Urban's self-imposed isolation, his retreat into obsessive gaming, his dropping out of school, the trauma of his father's suicide, and his apparent fascination with the bizarre cult video would seem to be red flags that Martin-Urban was a deeply troubled young man.

Did anyone notice what was happening/the possiblity of something happening or try to give this guy any help?

Its allot more cost effective to point the finger than it is to create psychological evaluation programs early on for children flagged as unstable to identify those who desperately need help.

And yet no one seems to think that his father's suicide had anything to do with it. No, it was World Of Warcraft.

Damn you Warlocks! Damn you all to hell!

Come to think of it, this is the first one I think I've heard of that they blamed WOW.

I didn't notice that. They usually blame WoW for suicides, don't they? Or was that just Everquest...

Eh, either way, I have to make absolutely sure to not go on a shooting spree. If they notice my Night Elf hunter with his trusty mithril blunderbuss, they might think that's where I got the idea.

Dam. correlation =/= causation here...
for example, it's likely that a psycho-killer would like FPSs, for cathartic release.
therefore, psycho-killer in-seed-form plays fps

then FPSs get blamed?! WTF?!
