For the same reason I can have sex at 16 but can't watch people have sex for another 2 years.

Just to pad it out a bit before the mods get grouchy, I can also live by myself with a kid at 16.

I can operate a potentially destructive 1 tonne + weapon (car, van) at 17 but I can't get a tattoo or watch people do the do for another year.

Actually I think there a lot of arguments that violence itself is actually held back relatively, I mean sure there are plenty of Mortal Kombats and such, but I mean, think about, did Call of Duty World at War show you what a flamethrower really does to the human body?

Because culturally, our ideal for sex is a very personal experience, while our ideal of violence is impersonal. i.e. Ideally the person we have sex with is our loving partner. However, our ideal of violence is the cold and calm soldier, doing what must be done, not what s/he wants.

Here. Your not asking the right question.

What need is there for sex in a video game?

How would sex and nudity improve any game?

Would halo be better if cortana bent over once in a while to recieve a pounding from Master Cheif?

Walk Starcraft 2 be better is Kerrigan was having an insect orgy in a cutscene?

How can sex make a game better?

In Rome, which was the biggest empire of its time, had violent gladiator shows at colosseums but I don't remember hearing of people making out for an audience or something like that. I'd say that Roman culture had a pretty large influence on modern day culture, it being the widest spread civilization back then.
That was a culture where parents who could afford it would send their sons to a whorehouse just so they wouldn't be absolute crap in bed later on in life. The Romans were big on sex, generally speaking it was the Catholics that decided that the world should pretend that sex doesn't exist.
At least that's how I remember hearing it happened.

In a more modern time it's to "Protect the children" obviously
Thanks for the correction. But that still doesn't mean that they had sex in front of a huge audience. They had violent gladiator shows instead. And the violence is what they are more remembered for, not the sex. But yeah, you are right.

Which would you rather have happen? Your mom walking in on you ripping zombies to shreds, or your mom walking in on you screwing a prostitute?

Yes but thats actual people not animation
I hear hentai is a very profitable business. Some people just are into different things than you are.

OT: Yup, it's bad.

I guess rape should be ok in games logically speaking. With violence you're using force to exert your will/dominace over your enemies by making them dead. Rape is similar except that the victim can be left alive. What about God of War where you have to bugger all your opponents into ecstatic unconsciousness?

Yes, we know.

Society just has some serious issues with regards to sex. Probably a noxious little by-product of our predominantly Christian heritage. Thanks for that Jesus, really appreciate it.

As for why violence doesn't cop so much flak... I don't know... maybe it's because sex is a lot more relevant to real life then the kind of over-the-top fantasy violence that you see in the likes of God of War.

Then again, it's not as if violent content gets under the radar entirely. There still seem to be plenty of people out there who are convinced that violent video games are going to turn us all into the next Columbine gunmen.

Can anyone explain to me why I can openly rip a man's arms off, beat him to death with them, and then smoke crack out of his eye sockets in a video game and have in completely uncensored.... But anything involving the act of live (sex, sexual body parts, even references) is entirely censored out of the game? What sick minded person decided that's how things were gonna go?
Americans.
In the USA violence is censored a lot less than sex is, despite the fact that sex is probably a better thing overall than violence, which is bad all over.

In Europe it's the other way round. Sex is censored less than violence. Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy had its sex scenes left in unlike in the USA, but violence is toned down more here, usually by having some kind of reduced gore factor, removing blood or even just plain banning the game (thought that's only in more severe places like Germany).

Thing is, Europe's been through this whole "sex is a horrible shameful thing" longer than Americans have with our having to deal with Christianity a lot longer. The USA however is still stuck in the fact that Christianity still takes a powerful precedent in some regions of the USA, and at the very least is strong enough to influence national decisions.

What are we supposed to discuss, exactly?
How we all agree with you? Because that's what most of it is.
And just to play Devil's Advocate, God of War has openly shown women with top nudity.
Just sayin'.
Yeah, but so does the Merchant of Venice, but that's a 15 and I don't see many people whacking off to that one either.

America = violence fine, sex shameful
Japan = sex fine, violence shameful

Not sure which country is somewhat in-between. Maybe Sweden.
Are you kidding? Japanese games can be just as violent, esp. the historical/war-based ones, since Japan itself has a violent and bloody history.

From what I understand the censorship basically is the other way around in eastern cultures. But Japan can get away with anything.
