If I was a Texan in the military I might actually feel kind of offended. Hopefully it is supposed to be a funny game...

It's pretty obvious now that the Duke is actually a Cursed Idol... they have simply gone insane.

All they need now is to make a game with wise cracking ass slapping space marines, shooting hoards of aliens while constantly shouting "Geth to deh Choppa!.

this would be an awesome game if it was done as a parody of all the nameless wwII games and the blatant American hero stereotype. just brothers in arms was always pretty respectable. Drop the name and it looks okay if its satire.

Well, I'll try to judge Inglorius Basterds: the game on its own merits rather than what series they want it to be part of. I really have my doubts about it though, and it doesn't seem very brothers in armsish to me; I haven't played any of those games though so I could be wrong (but I doubt it I am).

So, the only reason any of you are complaining is because it has the Brothers In Arms name, but looks very different? It's Final Fantasy XIII all over again! No matter how fun the game ends up being, it'll be shit because it's not what it's SUPPOSED to be based on a franchise assigned to it right guys? I thought the trailer was pretty fucking awesome and it looks like it could be a lot of fun with friends. Typical of The Escapist user base though.

Pretty tasteless really.

They couldn't make a new IP for this?
Exactly what I was thinking... seriously, did they need to call it Brothers in Arms? I mean, the series was supposed to be pretty respectful. Adding this to the series seems to be kind of a slap in the face to the actual guy that Brothers in Arms was based off of, to me.

I have a feeling, though, that if they changed the classes so it wasn't exactly the same as Borderlands and if they change the name so it has nothing to do with Brothers in Arms, it might be pretty fun. I would just have a hard time being comfortable playing this game, even if it does turn out to be good, just because of the series that it disrespects.

Battlefield could pull it off with Bad Company, but I don't think Gearbox can/should do this. Come on, guys, you've already got Duke Nukem and Borderlands... no more silly, please.

Hey, give it a chance, it could just be a very good satire, we don't know yet, geart box seems to think it's clever enough to be witty, lets see.

At least I'm not alone

Besides I don't think this is to be supposed to be a true sequel to brothers in arms, it would probably be completely separate

And to be fair it is WAY to early to judge, for all we know this could be a 4 player co-op top down shooter.

I thought brother in arms was a realistic squad based shooter. This looks like some ideats HU HU NAZI's bad wet dream.
Why give it the brother in arms name why not fuck nazis royal or why is crazy yanks go to war.
Or more maybe it should be called Brother in arms marketing gone wild.
Using the same already established name of brother in arms surgests they want to use the name to sell the game but it seams like an insult to them.
As it stands the game could be fun I just think the name should change...big time.

People all complain that modern shooters today are too gritty and realistic. Ok says gearbox, we'll make an overtop shooter in which you can go ballistic and kill nazis "No that's stupid" say the fans. At least they are trying something different, even if it is a little silly? Is duke nukem any different?
Yes, Duke Nukem is Duke Nukem. Brothers in Arms was a great tv-show and 3 video games that preferred realism and tactics over the arcade action of "realistic" shooters such as CoD.
This is nothing like it. The only thing in common is the WW2 setting. So why even call it Brothers in Arms when it has NOTHING to do with the tv-series or previous games?

I don't know, if you ignore the Brothers in Arms part it seems like it'll be a cheesy, fun type of game with four player co-op.

Are they actually fucking serious? Are they really taking the Brothers in Arms franchise and just shitting all over it? It seems so. Fuck Gearbox.

Yeah, this pretty much sums up my reaction:
I think I would be more charitable towards this if it didn't try to associate itself with the Brothers in Arms series. Not only is it not related to the established setting and plot at all, but it feels like an insult to longtime fans of the series. It's like they're saying "hey, remember all those things you loved about the Brothers in Arms games? Well this has absolutely none of it, but you're dumb enough to buy it because it has "Brothers in Arms" in the title. Now give us your money, *****."

Well no Gearbox, you're not getting my money this time. I cannot in good consciousness support such a callous disregard for the series or its fans.

I mean the other BIA games atr based on real people and real events. In the extras sectipns of the game you can unlock REAL letters to home and death certifactes of REAL people that sacfricied their lives to save the world.

I loved the series because of the realness of the story.

This just craps on them and disrepects there story.
It turns real people into cartoon caricatures.

This is a serious question this, have you played the previous games for any length of time?

They're pretty unique shooters, not only in the cover and suppression mechanics the combat used but also the look and feel of the games. They managed to depict World War Two in terms of big technicolour battles rather than the usual Saving Private Ryan stylings so beloved of WW2 shooters.

I'm not overly pleased with this announcement...

This. This looks more like Borderlands: WW2 than a Brothers in Arms game.
