"Is that what you joined the army for? Attention and glory? To show off your talents?" James asked, leaning against the back of a chair with his arms folded.

Drayven raised one copper eyebrow.
"Are you asking if I have ever met a young girl of my race?" He asked, clearly amused.

Eewww. People are talking about feelings. Saber got herself back up from the wall and decided to head over to the stadium, wanting to see some bloodshed.

"I know, I know, it was stupid." Laguna looked embarresed. "Like I said though, I think she was a mage, at some college or something... I wanna know, allright? I like meeting people, talking to them. You don't have to help, I thought since you happen to be the same race and you kept on talking about magic, maybe you could help out. You can just forget it if you want."

"Not just that. I love my home, and I do want to protect it. But I am destined for greatness, I can feel it."

Drayven shook his head regretfully.
"I am afraid that without more specific information I cannot help you. The vast majority of my race are mages in some capacity, and there are a number of colleges around Tamriel dedicated to the tutoring of mages. If you could remember the name of the college, or that of this Elf girl that you wish to know about then I could help, but as it is..."

James was quiet for a while, as he listened to what Diana was saying He waited a short time after she finished as well, simply staring back at her.
"Maybe these things work differently in your world." He finally said. But as far as I'm concerned, fate, destiny and divine intervention are just a load of bullshit. War isn't a game, understand? If you go above and beyond the call of duty, then you're either very brave or quite stupid. If you survive, that isn't destiny. That's luck. If you get called on to fight for your city, or country or whatever, fight for your friends and brothers-in-arms. Fight for the people that you're sworn to protect. You do that and depending on how bad your war is, you may succeed. You go in just looking to come out as a hero, I'd be willing to bet that it'd come back to bite you in the ass. You charge into battle ahead of the lines just to be the first to get there, you'll probably just end up leading your comrades into a minefield."

Laguna sighed. "Ah well. Thanks for trying to help. I'll say if I remember anything else." He began walking out but stopped. "Oh! That reminds me, there's this lizard guy. Dromaeus, or something like that. I haven't spoken to him in a couple days but he's got a bit of a blank memory too. If it's allright with you, maybe we can all talk some time, figure this out?"

Diana listened, but didn't really seem to take much in. "I am the child of nobles, born in the greatest city ever made, training for years to become the strongest mage that ever exsisted despite... some setbacks." She looked a bit nervous for a second, but then continued. "If I survive, that is not luck. It is skill. I intend to be written about in legends, and I will protect my home no matter what. And comrades? I will not intentionally kill those I work with or have sworn to obey or protect, but if they do not pull their weight or cannot keep up with me, I will discard them and go on alone."

OoC: @Berk I'm presuming Drom is still around in the Arena, or have you dropped him?

OOC: @Gear Yeah, he's still around. You know, it's funny You were saying 'I think I know who these people are' and you're taking this angle of questioning, but one of these names has come up before. Bet you can't figure it out.

"An Argonian? Very well, if there is time then I will speak to him as well."Drayven said with a nod.

James stared incredulously at Diana for a moment.

"You really don't get what you're talking about at all, do you?" He scoffed mirthlessly. "In a battle it doesn't matter a toss whether you're a better shot, or a stronger fighter, or, I guess, have more magic than the next guy. If you go into battle against a disciplined, properly prepared army and then refuse to cooperate with your own side, running around like some asshole who thinks he's a God, you'll end up in a box, guaranteed. If you fight as part of a disciplined unit, as part of a team, then that team becomes something greater than the sum of its parts, and the people in it actually have a chance of surviving when things don't go according to plan. That attitude that you have there is exactly the kind of thing that'll get you and probably a lot of other people killed on a real battlefield."

OoC: @Random: ...those Thalmor who turned up near the end of thread 2?!

"Thanks man." Laguna smiled. "I appreciate it."

"We are not trained as part of a unit. Each of us is told to do whatever we deem is the best strategy. And I find that attacking on my own is the best plan. Besides, the only great threat we have is the northen wildmen, and they can't even speak, much less make armies." Diana sighed. "Why am I even bothering to explain this? I doubt you'd understand, outsider."

Knife narrowly dodges Carmen's dropkick, though he gets a solid eyeful of her heel's in the process. Bringing his tanto down, he severs the Succubus's whip in two, then backs off and puts some distance between them.

Doug meanwhile, disinterested in the fight, takes the time to preen his feathers in the lounge.

Sorry I took so long, my internet's not being very nice today.

James pushed off from the chair and straightened up.
"That sounds less like an army and more like a mob." He said, shaking his head and sighing. "And I shouldn't even have to explain to you why just going up against an enemy completely by yourself and hoping you have the skill for it is a shitty tactic. I've already seen you get your ass handed to you by that Ozma woman, and by the Viking lizard before that. Your skills haven't exactly given you a great track record here. And I'll bet you that if you were at war with those lizard things, they'd send a lot more than one of them to battle."

OOC: @Gear There's a connection there alright. ;)

Carmen sighs as her whip is cut. She turns toward Knife and extends a hand, creating another magic circle. "Rot in nothingness... 1st Circle: Limbo!"

About 12 other magic circles open up around Carmen before each one shoots a metal chain aiming to bind Knife where he stood.

Diana stood, almost burning with anger. "That scaled ingrate and that insane witch only won because of one lucky strike. I garuntee you, had it not been for that, they would have died, and I would have been victorious. And how dare you insult the force that has kept my city, no, my enitre country safe for generations?!"

James raised an eyebrow.
"I thought there was no luck in whether you won or lost a fight, only skill." He said with mock surprise. "As for your 'Force' I'm just going based on how you describe it, and on my own experience as a military officer. What are they keeping your country safe from, exactly? These wildmen from the North?"

Knife waits until the last second, then leaps into the air, the chains speeding beneath him. Knife lands on, then runs along the top one of the chains straight at Carmen.

Diana almost screamed with anger. She was literally burning with anger now, fire running up her arm. She raised the flaming limb and pointed at James, close enougth that he could feel the heat. "I should kill you where you stand, see if whatever force brings us back decides to work outside the arena!"

Carmen simply stared at Knife as he ran along the chains, another magic circle opening up under her.

OOC: Diana is actually really fun to wind up. >:D

Shit. James thought as he saw Diana's arm become wreathed in flame and begin to rise. He was still easily the faster though, and experience told him not to hesitate. As her arm came up he dropped to the ground with one leg outstretched and his weight supported on his hands. Sweeping the outstretched leg in a broad 360 degree arc he smashed Diana's legs out from under her, and was regaining his feet even before she hit the ground. As she did land, she would hear a distinctive metallic click as James levelled his pistol at her, pulling back the slide to chamber a round.

"Nice try, rookie." He said, not even dishevelled from the brief skirmish. "Very... skillful. Don't do it again, or I'll have to ruin the carpet."

Knife's mind doesn't ever register the circle opening beneath Carmen as he sheaths his other tanto and, upon reaching the point where the chain emerges from it's own circle, throws the length of whip still clutched in his right hand at Carmen's head, before diving after it and attempting to tackle her.

Diana tried to get up when she heard the click. She laid there for a moment, then stood, her arm stil burning, Her hand tigheted into a fist, and she brought the flaming fist smashing down... onto the chair she had just been sitting on, which promplty caught on fire. She stood there for a while, staring James down, then left the lounge fuming as the chair became little more than a bundle of ash and sticks.

OoC: Really late. Sorry, but I gotta go.

James watched Diana go then chuckled humourlessly and lit a cigarette, now that the lounge was empty. As he smoked he grabbed his tattered leather jacket from one of the other chairs and began to beat out the flames that Diana had left.

OOC: Same here.

Carmen sighs as she extends her hand toward Knife as he throw the length of whip at her. "Once more... 7th Circle!" The familiar red beam shoots out, eviscerating the whip part and flying straight for the diving man. The beam's speed seemed to increase a decent amount as the circle under Carmen disappeared.
