So as a Spess Mehren I start from Scout and make my to Force Commander? Could there be a pathing in the race so I could be a Libriarian or Chaplain?LewsTherin said:IG: Start as a basic grunt in a squad, lvl10 or so become commander of the squad, specialize and add to the ranks as your squad levels, eventually getting to elite stuff like flamers and Basilisks. So don't - have the players (who are human) all be astartes, and let people who choose to be other races be the super powered versions of themshatnershaman said:It would be too difficult to balance Regular humans (IG) and invincible angels of death (Space MArines).
Its had 25 years of constant evolution behind it along with perhaps one of the most fanatical fanbses when it comes to the background/fluff (I have to say I'm one of them!). Most other sci fi universes haven't had such time lavished upon them.grenobl said:To stray a bit from the canon vs. everything-else discussion (heh), I'm still amazed by war40k. How come that universe has so much greatness? Maybe it's a childhood influence (i first saw w40k related stuff when i was 8 or 9) but this whole idea sings and dances is wholy light for me (in a non-stripper fashion). The atmosphere, the design, the je-ne-sais-quoi...
I've never seen anything quite like it.
Actually a squad of Imperial Guardsmen can take out a small squad of Space Marines fairly easily. The Space Marines (btw I do know what I'm talking about here as I collect both the tabletop game AND play Dawn of War) are not invincible, rather they are pretty much the Warhammer version of the Spartan-II's from Halo or any equivalent character from any equivalent game. However, the Space Marines can put up a decent fight. This would actually be good for an MMO game, whether FPS or RPG, as it promotes teamplay among less well supported troops. Plus, to fit with the ideas of the various races from Warhammer 40K, the races would effectively fit a rock/paper/scissors schematic, but with more options. Any Warhammer player (game or tabletop) will understand that as a basic example, Tau are useful against Orks, who are good against Eldar, who with stealth are very good against Space Marines, who can easily beat Tau. Each race has weaknesses as well as strengths and the Space Marines, being slow and cumbersome (especially Terminators), are no exception.shatnershaman said:You do know one Space Marine is more powerful than a hundred orks/eldar/Imperial Guardsmen. Have all players as Space Marines and Imperial guard as NPC's, only way I would think you could do it.

In case anyone didn't know an Warhammer 40k mmo is in development, by a company called vigil games. There is no solid information other than it will be an mmorpg. Personally i would of loved an mmofps like planet side but yeah. Im just not sure if this is actually going to take form, and be any good. What are your thoughts on this?

At the time i started this thread there was no other topic on this, and i think that some people where not aware of this.On that note there has been no other real news on this, i think it might end up being canceled. However if this made, and done right lol, it could turn out to be a great new experience for an mmo.Spicer001 said:Old news is oldBing said:Hi everyone new to the forums just wanted to introduce myself and make a topic.

In the tabletop game a basic ork has the same hand to hand stats as a basic space marine. The Creators of the tabletop game have said themselves spacemarines are much reduced in strength from how they are officially in canon and literature as they would be imbalancing to gameplay. In the 40k Literature they can be anything up to 13 Feet in height, be outnumbered 100 and 1 and due to genetic alteration etc etc come out on top stillurprobablyright said:First: that's an opinion/heresay based generalisation. Orks, for example, could easily be as strong as a space marine - they're brutes - space marines are just more trained/equipped/awesomefiedshatnershaman said:You do know one Space Marine is more powerful than a hundred orks/eldar/Imperial Guardsmen. Thta's only in the Tabletop game where they are heavily nerfed. In Inquisitor an unarmoured Space Marine can easily shrug off lascannon shots, without dieing. They're faster, stronger, better-armed and better trained than virtually any other race. They would completely unbalance an MMO unless they were heavily nerfed (which would enrage fans-the last thing a developer would want to do).Trivun said:Actually a squad of Imperial Guardsmen can take out a small squad of Space Marines fairly easily.
