This discussion is stupid beyond reason...

Warhammer 40k wins because it's bloody over powered. Period stop, the creators wanted planet eating gods, that shit doesn't exist in Star Wars because it's on a different scale.

Fuck I hate people... especially dick head warhammer fanboys who want to constantly prove how much better Warhammer 40k is than anything else in existence.

(for the record, I like the Warhammer Fantasy and the Warhammer 40k RPGs, they're brilliant, but I just HATE Warhammer fanboys)

pish tosh too all you 40K nerds. why if the Empire was ever to come head to head with the Imperium than george would simply invent a flying bug/lizard/frog/dog ross breed that was in truth the direct hand of God allmighty and simply wish the imperium dead ......... AND IT WOULD HAPPEN!!!!! and he'd then make 3 movies about how this bug/god was destined from the start of time to do this very thing.

i did snicker when a poster commented that 40K was 'over the top'. blood guts and glory combat is 'over the top' but a friggen guy that can just manage to unstick a lighsaber from a snow bank can in the same fucking movie not 10 minutes later somehow destroy a whole AT-AT by HIMSELF with nothing but a hand grenade?

truth be told id give an edge to the Empire in Space based combat. mounting weapons that can simply cause a planet too explode ..... doesnt get much more poweful than that, in a planet by planet gound campaign though, thats what 40K DOES and its what its about. i cant think of ANY sci-fie that does it 'better' than 40K. and while Star wars has its 'heros' , 40Ks space marines are ALL 'hero' units each and every one.

and the truth about Jedi (or sith) is this, if a bunch of storm trooper can wipe them out with a simple ambush than they dont stand much of a chance against real warriors now do they?

Me and my buddy were talking about Warhammer 40k vs SW *me goin WH40k* and Ive deduced that there's no possible way for any faction of SW to take even a single planet against any faction of WH40k. Equally, no way any SW faction can stave off a *small* invasion from any faction of WH40k.

What are your thoughts on this?
Matching different universes is always ridiculous.

Nobody in either universes would stand the smallest chance vs. most characters from the DBZ universe alone and their entire armies combined would be ashamed by the "top half" of those chars. It's pointless. Different sci-fi universes have different "scales" of power and of what's acceptable.

On that note, I'm not familiar with the warhammer universe, but SW has both death stars and Darth Vader... so yeah.

While I haven't read every post before mine I will say one thing (sorry if it has been said already): I would really like to see someone try to deflect a bolter shell with a lightsaber.

Even though it's a pointless argument, for the sake of fun I would say 40K would win.

But, as you see, SW and 40k are really alike in some aspects and thats why its fun to pit them against each other. Through some of the arguments i heard here, Im fairly certain it could go either way.

Does the Warhammer Universe have magic? If so, them.

Because magic>>>>>all else.

It's fucking magic.

If not, Star Wars.

Well, if it was a group of Daemon Hunters, they would probably look like uber big storm troopers with cooler armor. Then again, I'm probably one of the few people who play as Daemon Hunters. Plus they could like fight Jedi using their psychic powers of illusion!!

Well the concepts are too differant to really work.

Star Wars has two major advantages. One they don't need to traverse the warp to get from place to place, having a true "FTL" drive. Secondly they have FTL communications that don't require insane telepathic relays that risk letting demons and such go whenever they do anything.

Warhammer 40k's imperium's lack of easy space travel and reliable communications being a major factor in the whole concept, nobody even knows how big The Imperium actually is for that reason.

*snip

Talking about victory through communications and logistics doesn't sound very exciting, but that is what it all comes down to. Wars can be easily won through such things. Not to mention the abillity to outproduce the enemy. It's not that Star Wars is a manufacturing powerhouse, it's that the Imperium is a bloody mess. The Imperium might even be able to outproduce Star Wars in absolute terms, but lacks any abillity to put it to use in a large scale conflict. However I honestly don't think the Imperium could outproduce them, given the horrible failing technologies, sheer rate of worker mortality, and the fact that few people (if anyone) understands how those machines work. Destroy a Star Wars Factory they will make another one, destroy a WH 40k factory, chances are nobody knows how to make another one, and even if someone did getting those people to one place with the right materials would be a herculean effort to say the least.
Exactly, war is fought on more then just the battle field. Being able to outproduce and outmaneuver your opponents is a significant advantage no matter how strong they are.

A good real world analogy of this would be the Sherman and German tanks of World War 2. The Sherman was woefully outgunned and under protected compared the German armor, but the Allies were producing them at a much faster rate and were also able to logistically repair them faster. The Germans would knock out a Sherman, the engineers would fix it up, swap in a new crew and it was right back on the battlefield.

You also haven't clearly defined what the parameters are. Gods and planet killing weapons are great if you goal is utter destruction, but for an actual seizure of area, not so much.

The Warhammer 40k universe is so over the top, that they would likely eventually win a long term war, but you all might want to take a closer look beyond just this unit/guy could totally destroy etc.

Actually no, I really HATE Warhammer 40k fanboys who claim their universe is "teh best" because it's "SO GRITTY AND DARK AND HENCE WAY MORE HARD COREZ!" and so stupidly over powered. T

Star Wars is a Space Western/Fairy Tale with, at it's best, a light hearted mood of adventure, Warhammer 40k is Deep Space Nightmare Fuel where you "Save VS. Horrific Death" if you so much as BREATHE wrong.

Very different, both good for their own reasons.

Sanctioned Psykers or Librarians would be a good conuter for Jedi/Sith if we're talking straight up Imperium vs. Empire

If it's the whole universe involved then Farseers or even Warlocks vs. Jedi/Sith would be messily one sided in favor of the Eldar I think.

True, True. And SW movies are classic. (Yeah, I think it's said like that)
