Was Borderlands 2 just announced?

"Borderlands 2 is in development according to Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford. In an interview with VG247 Pitchford may have unintentionally let it slip that Borderlands 2 is already being worked on, "I'm sure Duke will have some demands of me and I've gotta work on Borderlands 2, right?"

A Borderlands sequel can't be a surprise to anyone who has played the game or seen its long-term success. It has sold over 3 million copies since its release in October 2009.

Do you think Pitchford was making a joke or do you think he just let it slip that we can expect to see Borderlands 2 in the near future?"

If this is true, I'm very excited.
I know people generally hate the ending of Borderlands but I'm pretty sure those people just don't understand what was really going on.
I'm friggin' pumped for a sequel, how do you feel?

Well he did say a while ago that a Borderlands 2 would be a "no brainer", so I'm not really surprised.

I just hope Borderlands 2 has a better story.

The original Borderlands had a story?

Also I can't wait for a sequel to Borderlands I loved that game so much.

I hope so. I thought it was awesome. And I kind of have to buy it. Its the reason I found one of my new favorite bands, Cage the elephant.

Borderlands 2 eh? Sounds interesting...though I hope there is a story this time. Especially for whatever characters we play as.

I wish Gearbox would just borrow the Bioware dialogue and voice acting team for a month. Make it an actual, you know, RPG.

Borderlands, in my opinion, has a phenomenal story. It like the Left 4 Dead mantra, it has an excellent story but you have to actively look for it, it doesn't just wave it in front of your face.

Such as, the Vault doesn't exist and never had, Hyperion made up the legend and was clearly using you to dismantle Atlas' presence on Pandora. Your character in the story isn't important at all in the real story, you're just a tool for these big corporations, though they all have actual reasons for being there. (Lilth is looking for more Sirens. Brick's looking for his lost Sister. Mordecai wants to kill this guy who may/may not be his brother, too bad Scar killed him first. Roland wants revenge on the McCloud character you fight from Atlas.) It was essentially a game about Hyperion fucking with you.

Personally, I played this and Bioshock aside each other and I found this to have a much cooler twist, but that might be due to the fact I figured Bioshock's out by the 3rd/4th chapter.

I'm not sure why I liked it so much, but I did. But I felt kinda pathetic playing it completely solo. Wonder was Blands 2 will be like.

Maybe I missed something, but I don't remember them explaining or hinting at any personal motives for the player characters outside of "they're mercenaries, do the math." Do they reveal this in the later expansions or something (haven't played Knoxx or Robot Revolution yet)? I do agree with you on how they've been manipulated though. I think it would have been neat if there was an expansion that dealt with them searching for the "guardian angel" because they want answers.

Personally I figured out pretty early the story wasn't an integral part of the game, so I just had fun roaming the wastes with my friends and killing everything that would cough up loot. I wasn't even let down by the ending like most people, as I realized it was one of those "more about the journey than the destination" experiences.

As for Borderlands 2, it would be awesome if they were indeed working on a sequel. There is a possibility he may have been joking, but I somehow doubt it given how popular the game is.

I had heard very shortly after the release of the original Borderlands that a sequel would be happening, and I'm excited for it.
In terms of what I want, the interface could use some help, specifically in the weapon management department and maybe allow an option to delete quests without having to complete them, having some added variety with the missions would be very nice, and I'd also like an actual plot, to clarify that last statement, Bioshock has a plot, Fallout has a plot, Resident Evil 4 has a plot, Borderlands has a goal, but lacks a real plot.

I hear you on the interface. I'm a kleptomaniac when it comes to loot in games, only pausing long enough to empty my pack when it's full at the nearest vendor. When you've got 48 backpack slots, trying to sort out which items you want to keep and which to sell can be maddening, particularly if the stats are very close to what you have equipped. Perhaps they could enable it so double-tapping the pick up button/key would designate it "vendor trash," either giving it an easily identifiable text color like black or putting it off to one side in your inventory screen.

I definitely agree that the story is not massively important part of it as killing millions of people with your buddies is the real draw, though the more I delve into the story, the more I dig it. So I think I'll take some time to explain some overlooked stuff.

Lilth - She's looking for Sirens as she thinks she's the last one, they have these tattoos. Well, she learns of general Steele, sees the tatts and goes out to find her and get more info on the sirens. General Steele has the tatoos and levitates the key at the end.

Mordecai - From what I remember, his family was killed by this guy who may/may not be his brother who uses a sword also. He hears of him on Pandora and tries to find and kill him. Though the skag 'Scar' killed him, you can see a 'Mordecai-like' sword sticking from his head.

Brick - He's looking for his younger sister, rumored to be on Pandora. There are 'Missing' posters of her in every city area on the bounty boards.

Roland - He was working for the Crimson Lance, he gets discharged with his superior officer being McCloud. He goes to Pandora to kill McCloud and settle things with Atlas. Roland has the big Crimson Lance Soldier pad and Marcus makes cracks about his lance gear.

No, these were kind of done like how Valve gave L4D 1's cast back-stories, off game but the game devs created them. Though instead of a comic, it's just their introductory pages to the character. Though, like I said, you don't really matter, you're a tool.

Sadly, there is no conclusion with the 'Guardian Angel' thing but in sense there couldn't be. Since, the character knows nothing about what she was, you have nothing to go on. I mean later, you meet a Hyperion rep face to face, you think he's gonna say "Oh yeah. We also made up the vault story so we could jerk you around being this 'Guardian Angel' to do our dirty work because we didn't have any forces on this planet at the time." Hell no, he'd expect you to shoot him in the face and it still wouldn't solve anything.

Borderlands is like somebody went and made a batch of awesome brownies, with 17.5 million different toppings and flavors on it, and after all that, they forget to put in chocolate.
Delicious, awesome, but not held together well.
Borderlands 2 needs to improve on that.

I liked Boderlands. I've heard a bunch of speculation about what's going on with the sequel, such as the titel being called "Borderworlds" or some such thing.

I think it would be cool to visit other vault planets. More characters would be nice too.

I don't know about near future, but I have very little doubt that it's coming at some point. Good thing, too. The first game was great, and the DLC was pretty good, too, but I'm ready for a fresh start. Maybe some new classes to play.

Yeah, I've seen people jump on that pretty quickly over on Gearbox... It was a minor blunder, and although he said that, it's not as verifiable or "confirmed" as say, him actually saying Borderlands 2 is in development.

I wouldn't call it confirmed yet, until we receive more word on it than just a small short sentence that may well just be a blunder. I would NOT call it announced either, it's just one sentence hinting that BL2 may be released.

I hope they actually have dialogue this time. Don't make me read large volumes of really small text, actually add more voice acting, or if you aren't going to do that, at least put the text in a larger font.

It would be better if it had a more intricate storyline than: FIND THE VAULT, HOE! Although I'd be addicted no matter what.

Really? I had no problem with small subtitles in Borderlands... If anything, it may have been a bit too big... It wasn't hard for me to hear what they were saying without subtitles either, and my hearing is pretty bad.
